Hat's off to the entire coaching staff and players.
Gameplan and execution were spot-on.

 

The Panthers dictated to Brady & Co how this game would be played. (a fully armed and operational Pat offense, btw) Not Patriot's lite, that most teams played.

 

Each team only had 7 offensive possessions,. 6 for the Panthers if you want to remove the end of half drive that each team just wanted to get to the locker room. To place this in context, the Oak@Hou & CLE@CIN game on Sunday had 17 possessions for each offense. Average NFL team gets about 11 possessions per game.

 

The Panthers had horrible field position the entire game.

Drives started @

Car 20, Car 10, Car 13, Car 11, [halftime] Car 19, Car 20, Car 17

Results were: Punt, TD, FG, EOH, TD, Punt, TD

 

Panthers scored on 4 of drives. And got TDs on 3 of them. The League average on scoring drives from starting at your 20 or worse is only 27%. (16% for TDs only)

 

In an odd sense, the Panthers Offense won a shootout that just so happened to only have 6-7 offensive possessions. Score doesn't have to be 31-28.

 

It may not show up in the cumulative STAT columns, but this is an elite offense.  I guarantee that the defensive coordinators crap their pants...realizing that their D can't rely on a long field to help them. And this has been a season long ability...not just 1-2 game anomaly against bad teams. Drive for drive, this offense can hang with any offense in the league.

 

There are quite a few "power-ranked" teams that have offensive issues going the distance (I'm looking at you Indy & KC).

Our offensive drive stats are stellar. Anyone who says this is a mediocre offense has no damn clue what they're talking about.

 

Good info there.

 

1st in TOP per drive, 2nd in plays per drive and 4th in points per drive. That's pretty damn good. This offense meshes with this defense perfectly IMO.

 

 

Also, according to that site, the D is first in turnovers per drive, leading in INTs per drive AND fumbles per drive. They are 2nd in points per drive.

 

Nice

 

 

This is why they are winning games folks, the Offense and Defense are in harmony with each other.

Starting field position has never been as important to us as other teams since Cam came on board. His ability to convert 3rd downs with his legs as well as his arm gives us a huge bonus.

If we had forced him to be strictly a pocket passer (as some suggested Gettleman wanted), we wouldn't be 7-3 right now.

      Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.

      I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.

      Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
