Going through my nightly reading of my local newspaper, I came across this gem. There is NEVER an article about the Carolina Panthers on the LA Times that I have ever encountered....Until tonight..a good one at that by one of our better writers.

Looks like Sam Farmer and local boy SS had a phone interview.

I hope that this article is a start in making the Panthers more common in other major market newspapers.

"I think I've changed the game as far as to say, you can't use the measurements of how tall a guy is to disqualify him as a wide receiver," Smith said. "I see guys and I look at myself and I say, 'You know what, you can't keep telling me I can't play wideout because I'm not the standard that you set. Why is there a standard set on height, when all you've got to do is run a good route and catch the ball?'"

Steve talks about how he wants to work at the radio station because his kids need to see dad go to work. He doesn't want to retire and sit around the house all the time. He wants to be a role model.

When I see other fans say things about Steve, they have no idea what he does off the field. It really is a shame because he helps a lot of people and takes care of his kids.
