Sometimes I wonder why some Qbs get a pass from the media

The media likes to pick winners and losers. Then they don't want to admit when they are wrong. Finally they give in, but always bring up the BS they created in the first place.

You hit the nail on the head. If people pay attention to how the media operate, they will notice the same pattern. It is the media who create the narrative for these players. It is not who these players are. Remember it was Cam and not RG who was painted as the QB who was "immature" and needed to prove himself as an NFL QB. It is Cam and not Matthew, nor Bradford, nor Luck, who have to prove that he belong in the NFL. The script for today's QBs and players as a whole, is already written before they play their first game. The script is adjusted as needed but it never changes much from the original narrative.

RG III is beyond arrogant and he is no where near his rookie season record but you will not hear that coming from folks on ESPN/NFLN call him out on his maturity nor say he's in a sophmore slump. They will turn that image unto Cam. It's clear some folks, even on this site, can't discern between a young man with a playful cocky attitude and a young man who is clearly never wrong in his own eyes. RG has done nothing but made excuses for himself while throwing his playmates under the bus. But with Cam, everything he says and his body language, is disected for hints of him not taking full responsibility for his team loses.

Those in the media, despite the whole Redskins stuff, isn't throwing RG III under the bus. If anyone believes that they are, I got a bridge to sell you. It is Kurt Cousin who is being maligned so RG can get back his starting job next season. Also Cam is seen as cocky because he's doing something he's doing since Junior High School, his Superman pose. And because he started to give less and less interviews because those in the media insist on disecting his every words and spin them into some ridiculous controversy.

Anyway, let's look at the Panthers and Cam. Last season the Panthers won one more than the season before but Cam's record wasn't off by much from his rookie season but those in the media saw the oppotunity to paint Cam as having some sophmore, while continuing their narative of his "maturity issues" ( earing a towel on his head and sulking when the team loses) and "decision making skills."

All of a sudden the Panthers are winning, Cam "has turned the maturity corner." *Insert big ass eye rolling.*

I have been asking this question since the early 2000s: Does the media now control the NFL?

All true.

When you see the immaturity, arrogance, and ineptitude coming out RG3, Kaepernick, Bryant, etc., it's wonder how/what Cam was crucified about so much to begin with.

Cam has never got in trouble off the field; disrespected his coaches, teammates or the media. And he was a thorough professional, from the moment he stepped on the field, regarding his work ethic, desire to win, and competitiveness.

The things that "The Media" picked upon with Cam, were totally inconsequential (suggestion box?), when you the likes of Tom Brady pouting at a press conferences (please don't tell me "It's Tom Brady, and he has titles"); RG3 blatantly undermining his coaches and believing his own hype; Kaepernick arguing with fans on Twitter, and busting up bathrooms while struggling, and Dez Bryant, doing a little bit of everything. And this doesn't include, Andrew Lucky, "struggling", but is so fortunate he plays in a crappy division that he can continue to win (albeit "Lucky"). .

And so it goes on?????

I miss QB's like Johnny Unitas.

The guy come back in the huddle after being hit and has broken nose bleeding all over the place and in the huddle an O lineman tells him it looks like he broke his nose and to call time out and get it checked out........

instead Johnny he reaches down and grabs some dirt and packs it in his nose to stop the bleeding and then says......."okay here is what we are going to do on the next play"

That O lineman said Unitas was his hero after that move.

That's respect..................

I was just wondering this today. Both Romo and Stafford threw bad game-losing interceptions this weekend. Only one is getting crucified.

I'd take Romo as my QB over stafford any day…. JIMMY CLAUSEN COULD THROW TO CALVIN JOHNSON. Stafford looks better than he does because he's throwing to who eventually, imo will be viewed as the most dominant receiver of all time, and at the least 2nd to jerry rice.

Stafford gets one of the biggest passes I've ever seen. He has freaking megatron yet he still hasn't done poo in the playoffs and has a losing record as a starter.

He also has Scott fugging Lehmann as his OC. Can you even name a Lion other than Megatron, Suh, Bush, or Stafford?

agree, but I watched that playoff game against the Saints. Stafford was unreal. He literally played the perfect game and threw for nearly 400 yards that saturday night in new orleans. There was just no defense.

The Detroit defense just isn't good enough for whatever reason. I don't think Stafford is the problem, as Cam never was either.

Other than the Iggles game, the D has played well this year. The play calling is atrocious. Great first drive, then go all conservative. No imagination. Then expect Matt to bail him out at the end of games. I expect the Lions to change OC's after the year. It would help Matt and the O out greatly.

Stafford has Megatron and one of the best DLs in the NFL. How he gets a pass for throwing games away while Cam gets crucified for an overthrow is beyond me.

Uniformed opinions are the bane of the internet.

Matt has thrown for over 15,000 yards the last 3 years. Calvin has about 6,000 of those yards. Explain where those other 9,000 yards go. Yeah, thought not.

Some of you have a hard enough time talking intelligently about the Panthers. Maybe you should stay in your comfort zone, and leave the Lions to those who actually have a clue.

Oh well, I guess my dream of a Panthers/Lions Championship game will have to be put on hold for another year. Fugging Lehmann.

Here is another food for thought. Ask yourselves what is the difference between the Panthers 2011 and 2012 , and this season. For those who want to join the media's narrative on Cam, look at your team's record since he became your QB. Nothing but slow and steady progression. Cam's first season as QB where only the offense was working well he took the team to a 6-10 record from the previous year of 2-14. In 2012, with the defense still struggling and him settling in and very much growing, he took the team to a 7-9 season. And now 2013, with a defense that is getting stronger and the offense, despite it's struggles is still performing, the Panthers are now 10-5. What I see is a team that was themselves growing and changing, and a QB learning and growing.Cam only took a step backwards in the eyes of the media because they were playing off of the impatients of many Panthers' fans while still pushing their narrative of Cam and his "issues."

The Panthers have been progessing since Cam became the QB. The entire team has been growing and maturing into a more contending team. The problem is, the media has always made this team about Cam and not so much the team and it's weaknessses. The question many of you guys need to seriously ask yourselves is, do you want a team that is growing and getting stronger, with a QB who is clearly a very dedicated and hardworking young man, slowly making progess towards the bigger goal, a SB ring, or do you want a team that a patchwork of players and a QB who is being  burnt out?

Cam was never in a slump. A slump is when a team start strong and then go backwards. Even if it was only one more win than the year before, the Panthers did not go backwards. The Panthers simply didn't have a defense and the offense was learning and growing like it's new QB.

yeah he gets to either throw it up to Calvin, or when calvin has 3 people on him, he finds an open man, usually a check down to a rb like best or bush, occasionally others... anyone could do that. Cam would have over 15,000 yd in 3 years with megatron no fuging doubt

    • Here’s a summary of the JJ and Luke podcast transcript. Opening / Bryce Young Fifth-Year Option     •    JJ: Breaking news — Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option at $25.9M, guaranteed, coming in 2027. Combined with his 2025 salary of ~$6M, that’s $31M over two years — called it a “no-brainer.”     •    Luke: Enthusiastic about the move. Highlighted Bryce’s improving TD/INT ratios (11/10 → 15/9 → 23/11) and the value of entering year three with Dave Canales. Noted $25M is a bargain relative to the $60M top of market. Luke’s Personal Update — Charlotte Christian Football     •    Luke: Working with Charlotte Christian school football program, which hired a new head coach. Coaches include Greg Olsen, Luke, and Greg’s dad Chris Olsen (a New Jersey State coaching Hall of Famer).     •    JJ: Jokingly quipped that Charlotte Christian’s coaching staff is “the world’s greatest” — a Fox analyst, a Hall of Famer, and the best Panthers RB ever — all coaching middle school football.     •    Luke: Praised Chris Olsen’s deep football knowledge spanning decades and his ability to connect with kids. Round 1, Pick 19 — Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia     •    JJ: Panthers were on the clock and submitted their pick almost immediately — a sign of confidence and preparation. Freeling is 6’7”, 320 lbs, played in the SEC in a pro-style system.     •    Luke: Loved the pick. Emphasized you can never have too many quality offensive linemen. Noted Freeling’s size, athleticism, and arm length as key traits. Said the pick also reflects team’s philosophy of drafting great people, not just great players.     •    JJ: Noted reporter Darren Gantt compared Freeling favorably to Jordan Gross — bigger, heavier, and faster — as a potential franchise left tackle.     •    Luke: Pointed out that young players like Freeling still have physical development ahead of them, comparing the trajectory to Christian McCaffrey’s growth from age 20 onward. Round 2, Pick 49 — Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech     •    JJ: Panthers traded up from 51 to 49 (pick swap with Minnesota) to grab Hunter. Played audio from Panthers area scout Kaden McLuhan, who scouted Hunter.     •    Scout Kaden McLuhan (audio): Said Hunter’s size is immediately striking, and that everyone around him spoke glowingly about his character, energy, and love for the game.     •    Luke: Praised Hunter as a massive (6’3”, 320 lbs, ~34” arms) two-gap nose tackle who fits perfectly in the Evero defense. Compared his prospect profile to Akiem Hicks. Said having Derek Brown, Bobby Brown, Derrick Brown, Terson Wharton, and now Hunter creates varied body types that stress offensive linemen.     •    JJ: Noted Hunter ranked third among all prospects in run-stuff rate and sixth in interior pass-rush win rate — addressing a perception that he couldn’t rush the passer. Rounds 3–7 Highlights     •    Luke: Highlighted WR Brazle (3rd round, 6’4”, 437 speed, 1,000+ yards at Tennessee) as the vertical threat the offense needed. Also praised OL Sam Heck (5th round) as a technically sound player whose “short arms” caused him to fall but who has proven himself.     •    Luke: Mentioned CB Will Lee (6’1”, 33” arms) fits the Panthers’ DB prototype — big, long corners.     •    Luke: Praised S/LB hybrid Zaki Wheatley (5th round, 6’3”) as a big nickel similar to Trayvon Merek.     •    Luke: Excited about the linebacker competition between Devin Lloyd, Trevvin Wallace, and Claudin Cherless.     •    JJ: Noted Panthers had the #1 “steal/overreach” rating in the entire draft — drafting players lower than consensus big boards projected. Around the League     •    Luke: Admitted being “a little jealous” that the Miami Dolphins drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez (Luke’s favorite LB in the draft). Has personal connections to Miami’s coaching staff (Jeff Hafley, DC Shawn Dugen — a childhood teammate).     •    Luke: Also noted Miami’s selection of OT/G Kaden Proctor out of Alabama, who will likely move to guard. League Trends — Bigger Tight Ends / 12 & 13 Personnel     •    JJ: Observed the NFL saw its highest run rate in ~11 years (~52%) and a notable pivot toward big blocking tight ends in this draft.     •    Luke: Explained the cyclical nature of NFL offense/defense evolution — as defenses get smaller to match spread offenses, teams counter with bigger personnel (12/13 formations), which then forces defenses to get bigger at the nickel/“big nickel” spot. Called it an ongoing arms race.
