What the hell are the Bobcats doing?

next year when teams are not purposely losing, they will be right back to being a bottom feeder…. the record they have now is a result of teams just purposely losing this year to get a top pick.

im sure that is the case, SOME.. i dont think it is every bit of our success- if you want to call 11-14 a success..

but the winning this year builds confidence- similar to the Panthers when they went on an 8-0 run. we dont win against San Fran and New England back-to-back in week 5 or 6 after beating the Giants or Minnesota.. the compounding wins breeds success- it builds confidence in the players that "hay, we are alright and can play with the best in the land!"

I'm not completely sure I agree with this. I think most teams are losing based on poor talent. The worst teams are going to add some solid rookies. Those rookies might turn out to be stars in the future, but the likelihood that even 1 or 2 set the world on fire right out of the gate is pretty low. Jabari Parker is the only one I see making his team significantly better from the start, and even then, I think he will do it pretty inefficiently.

I think we will be battling for the 5th or 6th seed in the East next year with the 8th at worst.

The Knicks and the Nets don't have a first round pick so the conspiracy theory about them winning the lottery can stop.

Denver owns the Knicks unprotected pick

Atlanta owns the right to swap picks with the Nets.

For that reason, neither the Knicks or Nets will tank this season- they just aren't playing good although the Nets are turning it around and the Knicks get back former NBA Defensive POY tonight so they might improve as well.

It is amazing how the last three "franchise changing" players to get drafted (Wall, Irving, and Davis) has propelled their teams to perennial contenders, while teams that built through the draft without tanking like Portland and Indiana are floundering.

listen up- they are trying to build a solid foundation of winning (maybe 8-6 seed this year) so when the name change comes- there will be a decent team on the court to watch.

Tanking this year for a top 10 pick would most certainly hurt the sales for next year when the Hornets come back.. they are doing well enough

Fans don't care. All we want is to have the Hornets back and we are. Not tanking this year is going to hurt the sales for next year even more when we are watching the same guys on the court next season. A top 5 pick + the Hornets would make MJ mighty rich.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
