Riverboat Strikes Again

He actually meant to have the 2 minute warning as a time out so we were nearly fugged on that.

In my opinion we were lucky to get the ball back and even more lucky that Cam continued to stay in the pocket and make those throws. He had been pounded on those drop backs for the past two weeks and I wouldn't have faulted him at all if he had tried to run.

Calculated Risk Taker Ron.... He took the temperature of the game and determined:

0-9 on 3rd downs= not looking good for a must have 4th down conversation....

The Defense was playing with great intensity and heart... It was a trust move....

Maybe he snuck into Payton's head a little .... Thought there was a good chance he goes conservative... There had been serious pressure on Brees, the wet ball was impacting throws, running was safe and Payton felt like our offense was flat and incapable of a tie or win with little time left... And if Brees does drop back, maybe we get some magic from our D.

In the end the smart move was the ballsy move: punt and let the rest happen.

The reckless move was to throw the entire outcome on a fourth and long when making needed conversions just wasn't happening. It might have seemed like a regression from the "Riverboat Ron" moniker, but like he said, his actions were never really outrageous gambles.
