This is such an awesome read now (old Adam Schein article)

To be honest, the article itself is not interesting, but our reaction to it is.  There is no reason to get insulted over the article. Most prognosticators were predicting we would finish near the bottom of our division this year.  They had no reason not to because we had not shown any significant progress other than beating up on some sub 500 teams and Atlanta at the end of last year.  If you look at the preseason prediction threads, it seems that 50% or more of our own fans were predicting we improve slightly if at all.   If so many of our own fans were skeptical, why should we expect more from outsiders.

Most predictions are made based on past results not on some personal animus against a specific team.    Next year, most will likely predict that we finish first or second in our division.

Get over it you bunch of sensitive little children.

How many of these guys get paid to "prognosticate" and will say, "I don't know, Carolina might be good, Tampa Bay might surprise, Atlanta might still be good and the Saints will probably win some games."

None.

they will always have to make definitive statements about things, else, nobody would care what they say and they would never cause any conversations nor questions with their comments.  Look at people like "Kazoo" from ESPN.  People ask Clayton his opinion about football all the time and he has never had a clue, but he still says "stuff".  Look at the Swami who goes about 25% with all his predictions, yet, he still has a segment.  Bottom line, this guy is no different than the guys who said after our 12-4 season a few years ago, that we would be back on top.  Then we sucked.  Did you whine and moan about those preseason predictions?

It happens both ways and is nothing more than a crap shoot, so be a bit more reasonable.

Agreed.

But the reason why people pick on and criticize Schein; cause he appears to hate Carolina and Cam by repeatedly picking on them and making salacious, untrue statements.

It's OK not to know much about a team. We get that. But if you don't; please don't make grandiose, personal and untrue statements about the team. Just pick another one, you know a little better, unless you're a doofus of course.

This guy is not that far from Nolan Nawarowki, with the stuff he's said about Cam and the Panthers.

It's not random. It's quite personal, it appears.

Yeah, who could have ever predicted that a third-year QB would continue to mature and improve?  That's so far out of the bounds of reality, we HAVE to give guys like Schein a pass!

Yeah, many people forget he was 23 when he was expected to help lift up pro football in the Carolinas

    • If you look at almost all Daniels stats, they are as good or better than last year minus perhaps Completion Percentage. I don't think Daniels himself is having very much less individual success than the Redskins are reverting to the mean.  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46003861/nfl-teams-likely-decline-lose-more-games-2025-season-predictions-vikings-chiefs-commanders-lions-colts#wsh Barnwell wrote about them in the preseason as a team that had an inordinate amount of luck or success in one score games that wasn't very likely to be repeated.
    • We thinking of the same Mike White? He probably won’t even make it off the practice squad.
    • I would heavily push back on the notion of Tomlin and Cowher inheriting "collapsed teams." From 1980 to 1991(prior to Cowher and after their Super Bowl victories) the Steelers experienced just 4 sub .500 seasons. In fact the winning percentage for those years was 0.505. At most that was relatively mediocre, something fairly akin to the pre-Tepper Panthers. From Cowher through Tomlin(1992 to Present) it has been the NFL's best franchise. 22 playoff appearances, 4 Super Bowl Appearances, 2 Titles, 15 times winning the division. In fact they have only experienced 3 sub .500 records in that 34 season span.  That isn't ever a scenario where rebuilding happens. It's constant and consistent retooling so that your franchise floor is always high. It's smart business decisions, exceptional drafting and quality personnel moves that create a situation where that floor STAYS high.  It was precisely BECAUSE we opted to go through a complete teardown and "rebuild" without any of that competence being in the organization at all that led us to where we are currently. A situation that will more than likely continue for well over a decade longer.  Long term successful franchises do not "rebuild." They are in a constant state of competent flux that sustains them through some leaner periods without ripping the foundation completely out that led to that success in the first place.
