I'm glad the college football season has all but wrapped up so that these players have shown us all they have to show in pads. We will see how the underwear changes things up in Indy.

 

FA-

We will sign some of our own guys, Hardy (at least tag him), Ginn, Mitchell. We sign scrapheap/JAG's to fill holes.

 

Onto the draft:

 

 

Round 1- Jason Verrett-CB-TCU -5'10''-176

Hell yeah I want to fix the offense, we all do. But I want an elite talent, a day one starter. I don't value the CB position, never have, Reggie Howard and Terry Cousin say "Hi". However I feel like Verrett is a sure thing and BPA. Verrett fits our scheme perfectly with his ability to watch the QB and drive on the ball. Verrett is a bona-fide ballhawk with 8 picks and 30 pass breakups in the last two years. He is also aggressive in run support, a must have for me in a CB. I didn't go with WR here because I feel like outside of the first two guys, they have some question marks.

 

Round 2-Donte Moncrief-WR-Ole Miss-6'2''-225

This guy has it all, size, 4.4 speed, hands, what he doesn't have it what makes him a second rounder. No 1,000 yard season, no QB to throw him the ball. Moncrief is a bit of a diva, all the good ones are though right? He is a good blocker and shows an intense desire for the game.

 

Round 3-Billy Turner-OT-North Dakota State- 6'5''-310

Who? FCS player who dominates his FCS competitors, a big, aggressive lineman. Not a guy Walter and the like are talking about, but they will be. Most people want on OT earlier, and one who plays premier talent. I get that, but for me Turner's mean streak and effort sticks out. It's rare to see an O-lineman with the motor on this guy, his athleticism reminds me a little of Marcus McNeil, it's a risk, but one that I think will work out. Look for him to rise from the abyss into that 2nd tier of OT.

 

Round 4-Richard Rodgers-TE-Cal-6'4''-245

Rodgers is a guy who has average size, average numbers. He excels in gaining yards after contact and has the skills to be a good, not great player. 608 yards receiving this year on a horrible team, with horrible QB play. Cal is bad, bad. His dad is our special teams coordinator, that aside he is worthy at this spot and we need another tight end.

 

Round 5- Isiah Lewis-S-Michigan State-5'10''-210

We need safety depth at the least. Lewis is a downhill player who comes to the ball instead of waiting for it to get to him. I like that from DB's. Lewis has had 2 picks in each of the last two years, but has a knack for getting his hand in there for deflections. He is a bit undersized at 5'10'' but knows how to tackle low and drop bigger players down to his level.

 

Round 7- Michael Schofield-OT-Michigan-6'6''-305

The guy is a solid RT for the Wolverines. As you can see, he's not a natural knee bender, he needs to gain some weight. A lot of flaws with this guy, but when you watch the game footage you can see that he gets the job done even though it's not pretty. Would be good depth for our line.

I don't mind the Verrettt pick if "our big-3" of WRs are gone in the first (Robinson, Benjamin, Matthews), because I do believe one of those third-tier WRs will be there like Moncrief. And when I say third tier in this draft, that's usually a second tier in most draft years. We could easily snag a Keenan Allen or Cordarelle Patterson kind of WR this year in the late 2nd.

2. FCS player again? In the third round? We might get him in 7th round if he's that good. NO.

so you want to draft another captain M with our first round pick. im tired of short corners so ill pass.

 

I like Moncrief in the 2nd but would rather get a solid OT in the 1st

 

CB can wait til 3rd

 

This draft is about making sure the offense is ready for now and the future. Get weapons now and prepare to replace Gross and Smitty at the same time

The top 5 corners in this draft are between 5'10 and 6'0, why? Because that is an average size for corner back. Good luck thinking you will get a 6'2'' CB that can play zone in our scheme. You guys do know our defensive scheme right?????

yea I understand scheme and so do the Saints and the Falcons. if we have 2 5'10 CB there game plan will revolve around jump balls which will be a disadvantage.

 

im not saying we need 6'2 but I definetly want the 6'0

well Cap is 5'8 . Verrett is 5'10, but just Captain 2.0. But a 6'0 guy would be different. Two inches only matters sometimes. Makes sense.

Verrett is no Captain Munnerlyn!!!!

 

The kid is a beast and he's my 2nd best corner in this draft behind Dennard. Verrett is damn physical and will come in on run support. He's also a ball hawker. If he's BPA, I will not mind at all.

 

Do some research before riding a talent like Verrett off. I can name you five legitimate corners standing at 5'10 off the top of my head.

Love, Love, LOVE Jason Verrett. He's the 2nd best corner in this class imo, but really is my favorite. I also had him mocked to us with my first mock. If he's BPA, I'd run away with him. He's Asante Samuel but more physical and a better tackler imo.

 

Love Moncrief in the 2nd.

 

Dont really like Turner in the 3rd, bc imo its a huge reach. Almost like the Kugbila pick.

 

Love Lewis and Schofield to end the draft.

I like your pick on the 2nd round and that's it.

Tell me what corner other than Talib (this season) had not been eaten alive by Graham.

Just off the top of my head, Ty Law, Asante Samuel, Revis, Joe Haden, and Tramon Williams are all around 5'10-5'11.

This draft is going to be heavy on OT early. I feel that both a&m guys, Robinson, Lewan, and Erving go before us in round 1. I think we could get Tiny Richardson, but I don't think he hangs with NFL speed. Cyrus has those same question marks. Yankey, Martin, those guys are overrated and likely off the board by our round 2. Hurst, Juwan James, and Mewhort go before we pick in 3. If they don't those would be easy choices for round 3.

The reason that Tampa is probably going to part ways with Reavis is that they are going to play the Tampa two zone under Lovie and you don't need a big time shut down corner to play that system ($$$).  If we are playing the zone, then would we need to spend a first rounder on a shutdown corner?  Or one that thinks he is?

 

Don't think the kid is bad at all, but with our D, we need to spend the money with our front seven.  Just my opinion.

 

Find a very quick guy in the third and plug him in the rotation with all the youngsters we have right now

      To start with, you wouldn’t want to count up that value chart. You would see quickly where that is headed. But you basically did a quantity comparison, while ignoring quality.  I am looking at 2023 as the start, because it became all about Bryce.  2023 you have 4 picks plus DJ Moore for offense vs 2 (80 and 145) for defense.  2024 you got the 1st overall, the 32, the 46 and the 101 for offense vs 72, 157, 200 and 240 for defense. Leave the FA IOL out of it. Which was a crazy big  investment. But it wasn’t draft.  Anyway, that is basically 4 top 100 picks for offense and 4 picks for defense in 2024. Except they were 2 first rounders, the second rounder, and the 4th was really high at 101. Vs 72 and day three stuff. Please….  Second quoted/bolded… See you think we hate Bryce. That isn’t it at all. It is nice easy way to characterize us and discredit our talking points though.   Me, I do mostly hate watching him play. But I don’t hate the person. I hate the hell out of the stanning.  It started with the very first question I asked about his footwork, arm strength, and size. Height being the principle objection. I never even got to the durability factor. There was plenty without factoring that in.  But there was rabid opposition to even asking the question of what a couple of small fractions of a second extra closing time would do for the defenders.  What the extra time it takes to flip the hips would do vs a pass rush or on the other end after the ball is in the air. Split second more for recognition where it is going for the DBs.  The tippy toe backpedal.  That poo was a mess and it has always been mess but no Bryce fan wanted to hear it. “Go get another team to root for”. “It worked in the SEC it will be fine in the NFL you don’t know football you are just a hater”.  It got worse when the real games started. It has never stopped. It is nice that many people have left that train so there is less abuse but it hasn’t stopped.  So whatever…

      Whatever school you attended, I don't know and I don't care, but I would suggest demanding a refund.    Something was completely missed there.

      The draft capital since since 2023 has in no way been pretty even.  Especially when you zero in on day 1 and day 2 draft picks.  Draft capital has vastly gone toward the O over D.
