How much would it cost us to trade up for Watkins?

Lets ask the Falcons what they gave up to get Julio Jones... it was their 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, and I believe next years 1st round pick.  Watkins is a great player, but I can't justify giving up all those picks with all the holes we have to fill.

Technically they only gave up a 2, 1 and 4. The first round pick in the current Draft was upgraded to a much higher first round pick to draft a prospect who would have been long gone.

Watkins is overrated.  OSU secondary sucks.  However, South Carolina & FSU's secondary is very good and both of those games, he was held under 100 yards receiving, and most of his yardage was gained when the game was out of reach.  Watkins only looks good against sorry teams.  Even if Sammy was available I still wouldn't draft him.  I would much rather see the Panthers go after Evans, KB, or Matthews.

I'm not gonna call somebody stupid just for asking a question.

The Hurney days are over, but a lot of folks are still making the mental transition.

It's not a mental transition.

I never blamed Hurney ever for having the balls to trade up for Otah and Brown. Now, the AE trade was really stupid tho.

When you're considered a contender, you (Hurney) feel like you are a piece or two away from winning it all. That's why Hurney, Atlanta, etc. can invest the future to try and "win now". It just didnt pan out: Otah (injury), Brown (bust), AE (def BUST).

Im in no way on board of trading up for Watkins, so dont get it wrong. Im just telling you why some folks may think of trading up. It's no mental transition.

"Balls" are only good when they're accompanied by brains.

Hurney's "balls" cost us more than they gained.

Dont get smart with me.

Like I said, when you are considered a contender to win it all you can pull those kind of moves. Just like what Seattle did for Harvin. It is what it is.

What was stupid was taking Stewart at 13.  I could see getting Otah in the first but the RB in that draft was deep we didn't need to take Stewart that high.  Could have gotten another RB in the 2nd (Ray Rice/Forte/Charles).  He reached on Stewart.

Maybe, hindsight 20/20 you're right. But, I'd have to disagree. I loved the Stewart and Otah picks.

We needed at RB badly. Dwill was so-so and really looking like an average bust at the time. Dwill felt the pressure that year and had an amazing season. Stewart also had a great rookie season splitting carries with Dwill (10 tds). Stewart hasnt really been the same the last two season due to injuries. Stewart is the best RB taken in the 1st round (2008).

No one really saw that Rice, Forte, and Charles was still good. Also, it took Charles some years to finally get it going.
