Dee Ford - Possible Hardy Replacement (If We Lose Hardy)?

I can't claim to be a college football expert by any stretch of the imagination...  I just generally don't care until the season gets down to the homestretch, so, some of you will be much more informed on some of these guys than I am.

What is the general perception of Ford?

I know he killed it at the Senior Bowl, which is where I first noticed him.  So, I looked up his draft projections, stats, etc., and he is 6'2", 243 lbs., and listed as a DE.  I find it highly unlikely that he plays DE as a rookie if he is coming in at 243 lbs.  It's possible, but not likely.

So, does anyone think he remains a DE coming into the league?  Furthermore, any sources out there that thinks he can bulk up anymore?

One thing is for sure, he is explosive, and I don't see that changing.  But, I just don't see him playing on the line being that light.

Like some has mentioned, we should trade Hardy to Oakland for a 2nd round pick.

There are 5 solid DE's in this draft (Clowney, Murphy, Ford, Jeffcoat, & Crichton).  There is no doubt we need to take a WR & OT with our first two picks, but with our late 2nd round pick, it would be wise to take a DE ( best available).  CB's are deep this year.  We can take one with our 3rd rd pick.  Most likely available (Victor Hampton, Chris Davis, Pierre Desir,  Jaylen Watkins, EJ Gaines, etc....plenty of talent.)  Also, don't forget that Aaron Colvin who is a solid CB tore is ACL and now is a late 6th or 7th round pick.  Another guy we jump on later.

I think I saw Josh Norris say that Ford's first couple seasons will be in the role sort of like how we have Addison right now, pure pass rusher from the edge since he lacks the bulk and strength to play the run, and I'm not sure how much more weight he can add without taking away from his speed.  He has good bend and hand use to get around Tackles, but needs to add more moves other than a speed rush to continue to excel as a rusher.

I think that he can play DE but Im not going to take a chance with him. Dont want him being the next Everette Brown.

For the guys that want a DE, Im telling you guys, go check out "MARCUS SMITH" (14.5 sacks). The former QB turned DE is a stud who could be have in the 2nd.

What school did he attend?

The answer is already on the roster ............Horton, Addission would probably be the starter knowing the system and having experience & size to play DE.   I rather spend the pick on a needed position.

Are you sure about that?  I looked him up and all I could find was him having 9.5 career sacks., not 14.5.

    • Yeah this needs to happen ASAP. I don’t care if the price is lower. These Vikings fans on Twitter are absolutely insufferable. Acting like they have been world beaters for the last 60 years and thinking Carolina should just hand him over for nothing. We’ve had 7 or so tough seasons in a row and we have still been to two superbowls since they have and won more playoff games since 1995.    I hope Dan sends him to Detroit for a 2040 7th rounder and eats half the contract. Even Sheena is replying to them.
    • I hope your cath went well
    • So did the Panthers initiate this by making him "available for the right price" or was this something Thielen himself pushed for? I also never saw this quote he made about JJ McCarthy back in June. https://sports.yahoo.com/article/panthers-adam-thielen-both-asked-182711572.html Thielen believes McCarthy is built for big moments and will eventually show the world the skillset that won the Michigan Wolverines a national championship in 2023/2024. He even said McCarthy could be the “face of the league.” “I have high expectations for him. I've been able to be around a little bit through some of the time last summer... back in Minnesota, and I think he has the ability to be one of the great quarterbacks this season and the face of this league at some point. You know, I think he's got every tool and intangible that you can have,” Thielen said. “Obviously, it's a difficult league and it's not gonna just be easy, but I think he has the ability to handle adversity to be able to be big in big moments, as you saw when he was in college. I think he's got a great support staff around him, whether it be the coaches or the trainers.” Sounds like he's had one foot out the door for some time now.
