EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Things you probably didn't know about Seattle linebacker and Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith: He is the younger brother of Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith, didn't get invited to the NFL scouting combine after leaving USC and he had an eating disorder that caused him to lose 30 pounds (and still has trouble eating at times now).

What you do know about him now: He had the biggest play in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Six years earlier, in Super Bowl XLII, Smith’s older brother, former Giants wide receiver Steve Smith, caught five passes, including four on third down, to help New York to a 17-14 upset of the previously unbeaten Patriots. Trailing New England with 45 seconds left and facing a 3rd and 11 at the Patriots 25, Steve Smith made a tough catch on the far sideline, then ran for the first down to help set-up the Giants’ game-winning score.

But last night, it was his little brother’s turn. Malcolm Smith’s heads-up play snuffed out Denver’s building momentum and helped pave the way to Seattle’s 43-8 victory over the Broncos in front of 85,529 fans at MetLife Stadium.
