First mock offseason

Recommended Posts

Notable Offseason Moves  I am sure there will be others but these are the ones I think are likely to happen

1.  Tag Kraken

2.  Gross Mitchell, Warton and Ginn are retained

3.  DG does not pursue a WR in free agency  mainly due to the deep draft and the shallow pockets

4.  Cuts DLo and Godfrey

Draft (via Fanspeak) simulator.

Tried to go relatively BPA but if an area of need was available within a few spots I thought it was acceptable.  That said I did not reach beyond 5 or so spots.

1.  Cyrus Kouandjio (OT) – Very good skill set to help address OL needs and eventual replacement for Gross.

2.  Jordan Matthews (WR) –  Still showing as a 2nd rounder but suspect this will change.  One can hope.

3.  Jaylen Watkins (CB) – Sammy’s big brother helps our secondary

4.  Brandon Coleman (WR) -  Gil Brandt said he should have stayed in school and I agree but if he is here in the fourth we have a big WR with huge upside. He may have some growing pains but Proehl and Smitty should be able to coach him up.

5.  Kenny Ladler (S) – Another addition to the secondary.

6.  James Wilder Jr (RB) – I suspect we will get lighter at RB here due to cap cuts.  Restocking the stable

7.  Vinne Sunseri – Take a flier on a local kid who was injured.  Pulling for him

I'm sure someone else will say it so I'll just do it.  None of our RB's will be cut.  The cap hit is too substantial.  It makes zero sense even as a June 1 cut.  The dead money would be devastating and any potential money saved would not create a player at the same position with equal or greater value.

Other than that, I like what you've done here.

First 4 picks would be great, especially Kouandjio, get him in and let Matsko mold him, he would be able to learn at RT while Gross plays out his likely final season, then could easily slide over to LT.  Last 3 picks seem excessive though, no real need to draft 2 safeties when you're bringing back Mitchell and have Lester already on the roster.  Plus we can't cut any of our RBs right now, so Wilder wouldn't even make sense when you could shore up OL or CB instead.

Kouandjio is a pipe dream. Zack Martin would be a more realistic option.

Per the OP, this was a simulator and not just a list of wants.  It was an available (and best in terms of the ranking) option at the time of the pick.  Not sure how things are going to play out in the end.  Last year I along with a lot of people thought there was no way Star would fall to us.  Very happy to say I was wrong.

Star had health issues / concerns. I am not aware of any medical issues the Bama OT has.

OL is a premium position and a dude of his size and athleticism will most likely be gone by the end of the 1st.

Like the comments and somewhat agree with your assessment.  It was not ideal in all aspects but it was a simulation the OL/CB available at the time were reaches. Ladler would compete to start immediately and Sunseri was a 7th round flier with upside.   Also, while I may be wrong I was looking at a cap simulation and if we cut Deangelo we gain about 2 million in cap space (but we still take a good hit just not as much)

He is a pipe dream. Dude is a big athletic freak with long arms and agile feet. Obviously miracles can happen but anyone thinking or banking on him being around at 28 is foolish.

Alot of people have been souring on kouandjio, especially after his bad bowl game. But most of his issues are technical so a good coach could do wonders for him. We would be lucky to get him that late
