The NFL - Welfare Queens?

I understand the sentiment, but you also have to look at the revenue NFL teams bring to the governments that are subsidizing them. In the case of the Panthers, the money they asked the city/state for doesn't even amount to what the players and coaches paid in income taxes last year and a study by USC showed the Panthers were responsible for 700 million in revenue per year to both the city and state.

Link to study please.

If they take away the tax shelter from NFL teams that will cause them to immediatly pass the buck to fans in the form of higher ticket prices, higher concessions and higher merchandise prices.

I'm not defending their nonprofit status. I'm merely reminding people that the obscenely wealthy always find a way to make their money regardless of who gets hurt in the process.

I've seen that number and study thrown around a few times but cant find a link.  I did find out that the study was commissioned by the Panthers.  I am sure some of the findings are credible I just wonder what assumptions were made in calculating the 500 million.  I have seen other studies (no link) showing there is a positive economic impact but most of it goes to the owner.

I guess at the end of the day it is probably better and more beneficial to throw tax money at an NFL team than it is to study the decay of rat urine

That is precisely why I wanted to see it.

What I wanted to get was: I think it's horrible for the NFL to make insane profits with our tax dollars but what worries me the most is the unforseeable reactions the league will take to ensure rising profits.

What do you guys think the NFL will do to maximize profits if they lose their "charity" status?

    • Damn Logan Jones had a good day too. Was high on him coming in as he anchored that top Iowa line and is a fire plug inside. He's gonna be 25 to start the season so maybe he slips into the 4th but I doubt it, even if C isn't a premium position. His play on the field was top notch and the combine boosted it again. Arm length is about the only knock. But guy is plug and play at C.   This is a loaded class at C. Need to grab one.
    • Bryce will be permanently replaced by a draft pick. There's not another Sam Darnold out there to save us. Tepper is going to see this throw because he dumped Mayfield and Darnold too soon. He's going to give it 1 more year before he will sign off on dumping another 1st round pick qb. Thats the cold hard truth of it. It doesn't mean we can't get younger and much better at the backup position.
    • Maybe I should have used a different word and saved that for me. I want someone that has something impressive about them.  Someone that has potential to supplant a guy who is producing 25th best type of numbers. 22nd, 27th all that bottom third neighborhood.  I don’t know where that will come from it just can’t be from even a 4th round pick this year IMO. Unless FA is crazy productive.    I’ll give Bryce a better than bottom rating for his playoff game. Well above low twenties. But at least half of his games were bottom third level. Probably 2/3 to 3/4 of them were.
