Steve Smith on Gettleman's "Evaluation" comment

One thing that I did note however is that either Steve Wyche or Eric Davis  (sorry, I'm at work) said that he had talked to Rivera, and Rivera told them that a young play-maker at WR was a must.

I feel Steve Smith is over reacting.

Nobody from the Panthers said they don't want him.

Just like everone over reacted on here, Steve Smith has done the same.

He is still a valued piece of this team. Especially his leadership.

Eric Davis, who says Smith is "like family", said that he doesn't believe that Smith will be back, especially because the Panthers are no longer running the offense through him.  He says he has watched a lot of the games, and that Smith can still get behind defenses, but that the ball isn't being thrown his way (the implication being that play calling is the culprit).

 

Sam Wyche thinks that Smith will be back, as losing Gross and Smitty would be too much for the offense (Cam) to bear because of the veteran leadership.

 

Both believe Smith still has some game and would benefit from being in the slot. They mentioned the Pats, Ravens, San Diego, and even New Orleans as a destination (particularly if they can't get their act together with Graham).  One of them also mentioned the Bears, saying that Jefferey and Marshall on the edges with Smitty in the slot would basically be a nightmare for the opposition.

Perhaps it has been too soon, but I would have thought that The Big Cat would have had this squashed by now.  Could it be a case of "Where there's smoke..."?

Let me just say that if Stevonne Smith is cut or traded and ends up in New Orleans,

IMO Smitty just needs to ice up that bruised, delicate flower called his ego.
