He was the reason SFs passing game opened up in the playoffs as well. Lester needs time not a starting job.

I have a very bad feeling we are gong to take not one but 20 steps back this year. Losing Gross and not even having enough money to keep the same players as last year does not spell a good fortune. Its why DG was tempering everyone's enthusiasm early this year.

It's not about shooting the messenger douchebag. It's the fact that covering the Panthers is your ONE AND ONLY JOB and you consistently blow ass at it. Always late, getting beat to the punch by some nobody in Baltimore I've never even fuging heard of, mostly because almost everyone in the organization hates your guts because you're always trying to get designed answers out of players and coaches to further some twisted storyline you want to create. I was thinking the same thing, which concerns me. I thought the whole idea was that RR was going to be the coach that had back-to-back winning seasons, and that was part of the gauge of his success (JR mentioned it in Rivera's introductory presser). Instead, we get one winning season and now it looks like we're re-tooling for when our cap isn't as bad.

I don't think we're going to suck intentionally this year, but I think we're going to use this year to set-up the cap in the future, which means we will have to take a step back.

I think Gross may have told them all along that 2013 was his last season. As far as the cap in the future, I think the main goal is to shed bad contracts, but these restructures are only pushing things further into the upcoming years, it isn't going to get significantly better soon.

 

Gettleman did a good job of bringing in guys to fill in last year, and I don't think many of us expected to win the division. Let's see what happens. But I don't think he has any ideas about looking on to 2015 instead, once you start going down that road, it doesn't end well.

I'm in the same boat with you, I absolutely think we need to totally axe that mindset. However, it's hard to look at the team, realistically, and not see some major holes. That, paired with my disdain for Shula doesn't really give me hope that we'll finish 12-4 again this year.

Yeah in the back of my mind, I'm definitely concerned about Shula, considering our offense only got worse as the season went on.

 

I think though that Rivera should, and will get more involved in the direction of the offense. The red zone woes are impossible to ignore. Some of it can be chalked up to the OL, but the majority of it was just poor play design, and execution. Right now LT looks like a huge problem, but I think Gettleman will find a solution, even if temporary. He knows the importance of that position. Luckily we have all our draft picks this year.
