Panthers, Hardy talking long-term deal

We can give him whatever he wants in total money but we need to limit the guaranteed money.  I would suspect that the 6 years and 70 year contract as long as the guaranteed was only around 25.  If back loaded we could renegotiate in a few years or move on as long as the dead cap money wasn't ridiculous which comes when the signing bonus and guaranteed money isn't crazy. In the end the guaranteed money is what really matters.

Might be able to get the guaranteed money down to 25, but we are talking about Mr. Ruthless as his agent here. He was able to get Paul Kruger a 40 million dollar deal with half of it guaranteed.

I really don't like the idea of a long term deal like CJ got. We'll end up paying him like a 15 sack/season guy for 6+ years when we have no idea if he'll play to that level from here on out. I know that's the risk you take on with any long term contract, but it really don't like it in this situation. If we wanted a long term deal, we could have gotten a better one last offseason.

Does anyone really think we won't be a top 5 defense next year without him? He's a great player but we'd still be great defensively without him, especially if we resign Captain/Mitchell and bring in some other guys in the secondary (all of whom could be had for probably about what one year of Hardy's cap hit would be). On the other hand, everything points to us sliding further back offensively next year so far. Yeah I know there's still the draft to go, we'll have to see what happens...

It will be interesting to see whether any other teams will try to sign him when we tag him.  I suspect that no one will give 2 firsts for him and Gettleman may very well be fine with tagging him and letting him play for that.  We have players like Johnson, Godfrey and others who we can still squeeze for more cap money so really Rosenhaus doesn't have the leverage he might have with other players and we don't have to sign Hardy long term. We could tag him next year and still not pay him more than 14.5.  A 2 year deal for 26.5 wouldn't be that bad as long as we can absorb the cap hit.  And with 17 million in dead cap space coming off the books this year and the cap likely to rise again next year, we really are in the drivers seat.

12-14 mil? That's 30 mil on only 2 players on the DL(Hardy & CJ). We're doing the same thing with DEs as Hurney did with RBs. wtf!

First of all CJ will either need to restructure or he will gone after this year.  Secondly DEs always get a huge deal so it isn't the same as all.  RBs are easy to find, while 4-3 DEs are actually hard to find.  Lastly the problem with Williams and Stewarts contract was the guaranteed money not the total money.

But we have both RB and DE contract problem. The fact that the RBs aren't productive makes this a tough pill to swallow.

    • so the current Carolina Panthers are a team that is in a similar situation that the 2022 Carolina Panthers were in about this same time exactly 3 years ago. & after the 2022 season & missing the playoffs because of a last game of the season loss to the Tom Brady led Bucs  Carolina Panthers brass then thought hey you know what we are just a Qb away from taking that next step & becoming a playoff contender in 2023 .so of course that's what the Panthers proceeded to do when they traded up to the #1 overall pick in order todraft Bryce Young .& here is history repeating itself as it often does & the Carolina Panthers are once again in a close race at the end of the season with Tampa Bay for the NFCS title in 2025  it's took what 3 years now to get back to where we started to begin with prior to drafting Bryce Young  &so tell me once again who is really holding this team back ? ...just saying hRi

    • Well, looking at it now I would agree that he should cede some of his power and focus on being a leader of an entire NFL program and becoming a better strategist. And leave the details of implementing that to the people he has hired to work under him.  But I am just some guy that gets his info 3rd hand and works off of incomplete info, using assumptions to draw conclusions.
