Still loving Gettleman?

Apparently becoming a member to this site means you've just become a fan of the panthers. That's a completely ignorant thing to say. Stop trolling

Are you referring to tiger7_88? He literally became a fan of the team because we drafted Cam Newton. He's an Auburn Tigers fan. Ask him yourself.

What exactly do you think the "tiger" in his name means?

If you need any other assistance following along in this thread, let me know sweetheart.

Problem is, most of the Panthers fans are Mayberry, Andy Griffith born and raised.  There is nothing wrong with that as long as you are in a vacuum.

Problem is...the NFL is not in that vacuum.

You people expect this franchise to operate inside the "deep south" way of doing things in which loyalty is valued above all else.  We tried that, and Hurney displayed how foolish that is and how horribly it works.

Gettleman has no back-woods in him and many of you are not only uncomfortable with it, most of you can't comprehend it.

Performance with projected performance equals payday, performance with projected diminishing returns equals aloha.

This would be a non-issue in New York.

Well since this is how things are done in New York, I guess the Giants front office should currently be publicly distancing themselves from Eli Manning through the media. Oh, you mean to tell me they aren't? They actually had a dialogue with him, and decided to hire a new offensive coordinator? Interesting.

So far so good

Never-mind the few sissies in here who need a tampon change because all players are being evaluated.

Steve should feel more betrayed by Hurney for all those years he gave him 0 help on the outside, not to mention making the team suffer through a Jimmy Clausen season.

I know which GM(former) the players should logically feel hate for.

That's your prerogative. But if people are honest, everyone knows that special employees that are valued more highly than others in any organization are treated "differently" than the rest.  Furthermore, I don't see Steve Smith as the quintessential diva. He's just a hard-nosed, hard working, no nonsense type of a guy.

It makes sense to discuss a player's status in the exit interview, and it's also just common human courtesy to give someone a heads-up about their situation before you discuss their situation in the media.  That should be any player.   A more seasoned GM would probably know this. And to say that he was just answering a question, or just being honest is unacceptable. A better response would have been:

"Steve Smith has been a very important part of the team, and he continues to be a part of the puzzle. Next question."

You say something while saying nothing at the same time.  That is always the best course of action when the media is throwing you tough questions.  G-man gave the reporter a gift, and fell into the mouth of the shark, hook, line and sinker.

Special players/employees are treated differently but if they aren't producing anymore they are no longer special for the present or future. Steve has been special for the past 10+ years and he deserves alot of credit for that but going forward he is no longer special.

It is kinda like a car. It has been the cornerstone of your life but after 10+ years the car is starting to breakdown. There comes a time when you say man it is not worth taking this car to get fixed anymore.

I don't deny that the media is blowing it up, but to not at least give him a slight heads up that you may be considering ending his 13 year employment and then also not return his agent's calls, seems shady.

I don't really think the media is blowing it up tbh. They reported a direct quote and inferred what every other logical human being would from the quote. People being so quick to criticize the media should really take off the blinders and accept that Getleman has handled the 89 situation about as bad as a GM possibly could.

the giants are a non issue so I fail to see the point.

    • Yeah this needs to happen ASAP. I don’t care if the price is lower. These Vikings fans on Twitter are absolutely insufferable. Acting like they have been world beaters for the last 60 years and thinking Carolina should just hand him over for nothing. We’ve had 7 or so tough seasons in a row and we have still been to two superbowls since they have and won more playoff games since 1995.    I hope Dan sends him to Detroit for a 2040 7th rounder and eats half the contract. Even Sheena is replying to them.
    • I hope your cath went well
    • So did the Panthers initiate this by making him "available for the right price" or was this something Thielen himself pushed for? I also never saw this quote he made about JJ McCarthy back in June. https://sports.yahoo.com/article/panthers-adam-thielen-both-asked-182711572.html Thielen believes McCarthy is built for big moments and will eventually show the world the skillset that won the Michigan Wolverines a national championship in 2023/2024. He even said McCarthy could be the “face of the league.” “I have high expectations for him. I've been able to be around a little bit through some of the time last summer... back in Minnesota, and I think he has the ability to be one of the great quarterbacks this season and the face of this league at some point. You know, I think he's got every tool and intangible that you can have,” Thielen said. “Obviously, it's a difficult league and it's not gonna just be easy, but I think he has the ability to handle adversity to be able to be big in big moments, as you saw when he was in college. I think he's got a great support staff around him, whether it be the coaches or the trainers.” Sounds like he's had one foot out the door for some time now.
