The Legend of Duke's Kyrie Irving

Why is it universally accepted and assumed that Kyrie Irving is a young superstar and the future at PG in the NBA? He is the most overrated player in the league. It's only compounded by living in NC surrounded by Duke fans who proclaim they have a superstar PG in the NBA. Especially considering he played less minutes at Duke than most walk-on players will.

At the same time Kemba Walker is a forgotten player. While Kemba isn't gonna be a superstar, he is still a very good player and every bit as good as Kyrie.

They both entered the league 3 years ago and Kyrie is only 2 years younger than Kemba. In college, Kemba led UConn to a Big East & NCAA Championship. He has stayed healthy his entire collegiate & pro career. Meanwhile, Kyrie played in only 8 games at Duke due to injuries. He missed 54 games his first 2 seasons in the NBA due to injury.

Kyrie seems to be a diva and complains about being in Cleveland. Kemba has embraced Charlotte and is doing his best to make his team a winner (he brought Big Al to the QC).

All that aside, Kyrie's raw numbers aren't even better than Kemba's. And Kemba has kicked Kyrie's ass 3 times this season head to head.

career per 36:

Kyrie ::: 22 pt (44%), 4 reb, 6 ast, 3 to

Kemba: 18 pt (40%), 4 reb, 6 ast, 2 to

3 game avg this season (3-0 Cats):

Kyrie ::: 15 pt, 4 reb, 7 ast, 1 stl, 0 blk, 4 to

Kemba: 18 pt, 4 reb, 9 ast, 3 stl, 2 blk, 3 to

Other than media anointment, what has Kyrie accomplished since high school? I wouldn't trade Kemba for him, that's for sure.

Irving is a great player and a superstar. 22 ppg, great shooter, sick handle, etc etc.

That is coming from a UNC and Kemba fan. Kemba is no scrub, id put him right below Irving.

He's not even a top 10 player at his own position.

If I am starting a franchise I can only think of 5 players id take over him.

CP3

Parker

Westbrook

Curry

Lillard

CP3 and Parker are not spring chickens. So I am not even sure id start a franchise with them.

Rose would be on that list if he could stay healthy, but he hasnt done that in what 2-3 years?

The PG position is stacked, unlike the SG position.

Kyrie isn't a top 10 PG? Not sure what you are smoking. Yes he is extremely overrated, but he is certainly a top 10 PG. There are only a handful of PG's that I would for sure take over him (CP3, Westbrook, Parker, Curry, and maybe Wall). Now I do also feel that Kemba is very underrated. Kemba has been a top 10 PG for 2 years now imo. I would say that Kyrie is a tad bit better than Kemba right now and probably has a little bit more potential, but in saying that I also wouldn't trade Kemba for Kyrie (mainly because I am a bit biased).

Irving & Rose have both missed the exact same amount of time due to injury over the last 4 seasons.

Irving has played in 181 of 264 games (68.5%)

Rose has played in 208 of 308 games; (67.9%)

In no particular order after the top 3...

Tony Parker

Chris Paul

Derrick Rose

Stephen Curry

Russell Westbrook

Damian Lillard

Ty Lawson

John Wall

Rajon Rondo

Kemba Walker

...Kyrie isn't even top 10.

Rose has been out the last 2 seasons. At this point you gotta take a wait and see approach.

& Kyrie has never made anyone look good other than Kyrie & the guy Kyrie is attempting to defend.

.... let's wait & see if he ever develops into a competent PG or learns what defense is.

Who can guard irving? No one is stoping him. Handle is too good and he is too quick.

He could out score the opposing PG every night if he wanted to, with maybe the exception of Westbrook.

lol das funny

What's funny is you think Kyrie is better than Kemba.

Kemba's Bobcats have beaten Kyrie's Cavaliers in each of the three meetings this season. In those games Kemba has more points (8), rebounds (6), assists (6), steals (6), and blocks (2), as well as fewer turnovers (6).

I guess Kyrie is better though, he has more Pepsi commercials and Twitter All-Star votes.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
