Mitchell to the Steelers

Big mistake. Man, this is a HUGE mistake.

The Steelers don't spend recklessly, especially on defense... they know what they're doing and they just signed our starter (and IMO, the heart and soul of our defense) to be their starter for the next 5 years on a bargain of a deal.

I keep seeing people write Mitchell's accomplishments off as a product of playing here on a 1-year deal and behind a superior front seven... problem is, you're not giving him his due. He earned a bigger contract because of how he played. He did a lot of the dirty work and was single-handedly responsible for some huge game changing turnovers and hits.

Like I said before, it took years to find him, and then we just let him walk like they grow on trees, while the Steelers benefit with his play for the next 5 years, which is worth every penny and then some. We should've paid him... good luck finding a comparable replacement.

We will regret this.

I really like Mitchell too man. But 5 million per year? Even if we had more cap space, I don't see us paying that.

well we are somewhat strapped, but I think that's fair and we could've gave him 5 per. He has perennial pro-bowl potential and he was a core peice of what we did this year.

You people are stupid thinking we can't replace a bargain bin S.

5 mil per year...bwahahahahahaha!!!!!

What league backup isn't going to want to come here for a season or two if they get to play behind our front 7 and get a 500% pay raise cause our super stars did all the hard work for them?

I thought we had an intelligent fan base? Not anymore

WTF?

Heart and Soul? Bargain of a deal?

He was a role player and a nice find by Gman, we'll find another. He laid some nice hits and played the intimidator role but he also whiffed alot and was dodgy in coverage.

I know I'm late to the party here, but this franchise will regret this decision for a long time coming. You can not replace that man's heart and soul and vocal leadership. He loved everything about this team!

People wonder why we haven't win a championship yet? This right here is why! It has more to do with letting good character guys leave time and time again, because they don't want to pay them. I could list them, but most here understand what I mean.

Carolina will always suffer due to the most idiotic personnel moves. I'd rather not start the never ending list. I believed in Gettleman, but now I'm not so sure. You don't let that kind of guy walk! We'll build through the draft, as we always have, continue to stay young, I get that this is where the League is headed. It's pretty obvious after today.

I do not agree with this though. This is horrible. Very disappointed

Yes. That's what I said. And it's my opinion. And I think it's awfully dumb to write him off as some scrub who got lucky here for one year. Again, he is getting paid because he earned it and showed he deserved it with outstanding play. Yes, he was the heart and soul of our smashmouth defense, along with Hardy - they set the tone with their talk and backing it up with their play. You are severely diminishing his impact on our team. Again, watch how our defense played the first three weeks and then how they played after. He created turnovers and intimidated opponents with huge hits. He was explosive and athletic. I keep mentioning Minter, but he actually is an even better athlete than Minter was and has better range/ballhawking skills.

We gave him the chance and put him in the position to demonstrate his abilities... now someone else reaps the benefits. The Steelers scouting department does an outstanding job in bringing in talent and consistently being competitive... we have not. I trust they know what they're doing when they sign a guy to start for 5 years. We dropped the ball. This past season wasn't a fluke, it was the first time a coaching staff believed in him and gave him the opportunity to play, and then we just let him go...

    • agree to disagree you are entitled to that opinion even though I find the argument completely bizarre based on data. I could type out a long paragraph discussing those areas but what’s the point. I posted a screenshot that showed Bryce in a similar post snap situation with a free rusher in his face which resulted in a TD - that’s what happened on the play so I posted it.
    • I've already addressed this notion in a previous reply. You are basing your assertion outside reality if you think Bryce would have not only been more successful but defeated the Patriots in place of Herbert. Bryce got blown off the field by that Patriots team with the highest paid OL in the league. We've seen Bryce with an OL that gave up 65 sacks and it resulted in the #1 pick. And that is not a defense of Herbert or arguing he is a great QB in any way. He has physical talent but he has been similar to Darnold early in his career in terms of his very up and down perfomances. However that does not change the fact that they have significantly less invested in the OL than the Panthers.
    • I think Tepper has been setting the stage where pending there is no miracle he wipes it all clean.  Think you already have been told that with small things like Evero staying.  Bryce is the guy next year.  OC, DC, everything stays the same.  QB room largely the same.  Nothing would really matter there.  They basically get one more shot and it goes how the schedule paired with our 27th ranked O predictably most likely goes.  Everyone out the door together.  Bryce is a bridge tier QB.  I don’t see Dave surviving where he could be bridge QB here in reality.
