The best FAs avaliable IMO that fit DG's high value low cost plan

Wide receivers

  • Brandon lafell - Knows the system and is a above average run blocker. Lafell will never be a number 1 receiver but he has excellent production to be a number 3. The problem with lafell is he will make and amazing catch one drive and drop a wide open catch the next. Great value low cost
  • Marc Mariani -(Punt/Kick returner) He has had some injury issues but the guy is a burner i remember a few years back he burned us on a kick return. Consider him wes welker light a shifty guy with excellent burst a above average route running skill. he could be a steal in the right system.
  • James Jones - He wont come as expensive as everyone thinks considering he's almost 30 and i don't believe he's a number 1 either. Jones is the ideal number 2 reciever who can be a number 1 for atleast a year while our future rookie WR gets up to speed. Another high value low cost option

Offensive line

I believe that most of our lineman woes inclusing our future left tackle will come in the draft gettleman is gambling on amini to get healthy and nate chandler to continue to improve along with kubila who i think will surprise some people. Byron bell isnt great but he will get the start for 1 more year unless we hit big on a right tackle late in the draft.

  • Andre Gurode - a veteran that won't come in asking to be a starter for the next 2 years since he probably has 1 more year left in the tank i see Gettleman getting him on the vet min and using him as a mentor and insurance policy for amini.
  • Andrew gardner - Another journeyman with great value as a back up right or left tackle. He wont start but he will provide depth due to his versitility

Secondary

Godfrey is no mitchell but were stuck with him and with our improved front seven he will look a lot better than were used to seeing him. I thought he was having a decent season before his injury IMO only time will tell.

  • Terrell Thomas - Another gettleman guy he wont be the starter but is a solid number 2 if his knee holds up
  • Champ bailey - Why not, this is a surprise holy poo sign i see gettleman making he's 35 and knows he isnt going to get paid top dollar if he's still a free agent after june 1st i see no reason not to pursue him.
  • Cassius Vaughn - Another high value low cost player. Cassius is young and hasn't had the time to sit in a system for too long but when he played behind champ he was a deflecting machine.
  • Major wright - a Hard hitter with questionable coverage skills but excellent closing skills. Behind our front seven he could be our next mike mitchell. I see him competing with robert lester and a rookie for the starting saftey job

I'd add Sidney Rice and Lance Moore to the WR list - I think both should be relatively cheap and good options, if a bit injury prone (which is why we might be able to afford them).

The trick with Godfrey will be convincing him to take a large pay cut - take him right down to whatever his cap hit would be if we were to cut him as a June 1 and let him prove he can play. If he won't accept that then cut him and use the 5mm cap space elsewhere.

We should pursue Hester with vigor.

Why? past being a kick/punt returner he brings nothing else to the table. Go look at his production the past 3 years

put me down for Marshall Newhouse or Jason Fox on OTs

the WRs and CBs....... i prefer the draft.

please panther fans be aware that this is a deep draft for all panthers needs, im not stating that for drafting but for all the cuts due to the draft. if a team drafts there guy and a current player with a high cap hit plays the same spot, he gone.

teams are going to cut good players june 1st AND after the draft.

You mean kind of like Ginn before last season?

Ginn showed the ability to run excellent routes and beat his man to the post every time. He also blocks about as good as lafell the only question was his hands he came in with a chip on his shoulder. Hester is a willie gault type of receiver a stone hands wide out who can stretch the field only. If we sign him great id love it but don't expect him to put up the same production as ginn did.
