Just to take my mind off the puzzle of Gettleman's infamous plan, what players are you high on? Who do you really like that others might not be paying attention too? Sleepers, late rounders, anyone really. For me, it's

- Chris Borland, LB from Wisconsin

- Josh Huff, WR from Oregon

- Jackson Jeffcoat, DE from Texas

- Connor Shaw, QB from South Carolina

Deone Bucannon, S, Washington State

Tidbits from the write-up:

 

 

 

Deone Bucannon fits these trends, running an official 4.49 40-yard dash, tied for third best amongst safeties and faster than Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Calvin Pryor and Dion Bailey. Bucannon racked up 19 reps on the bench press (third best), a 36.5-inch vertical jump (third best), 125 inches on the broad jump (second best), 6.96 seconds on the three cone (third). And he did all this as the fifth tallest safety, fourth heaviest safety and had the second longest arms of all safeties. He’s clearly a very athletic player, especially for a player of his size. Physically, Deone Bucannon profiles very similarly to San Francisco 49ers rookie Pro Bowl safety, Eric Reid.

I'm only high on Beckham Jr as a solid, NFL-ready, prototypical #2 receiver. Besides Sammy Watkins, I think ODB is the most ready to produce from day one. He's also a return specialist which fits a need for us. It's tough because we still need a #1 receiver and at our pick, Matthews and Benjamin may be the only true #1's that I see with the ability to become elite in their first rookie contract.

Of those two, I feel Benjamin has the higher ceiling but also as the biggest project of those two.

It's a quandary, do we go with the guy that is NFL ready but won't see be a number one receiver or do we go with potential to be a bigger impact player down the road in hopes that finding a #2 and return specialist later in the draft or in FA.

I do like Beckam in that regards and think we should draft him if he drops to us because otherwise, we would have to use an additional draft pick on a returner who would be less explosive than what we could get from ODB.

In the late second, Mewhort, Moncrief, JJames and Maybe Allen Robinson could be still on the board. Mewhort would be my pick because he is the most versatile lineman and could start from day 1...and we have to get at least one OL starter

In round 3 in hopes that Brandon Coleman or Keith McGill would be available.

In the fourth, I go with BPA out of all positions other than QB. I think that in the fourth round we will find our best value. Whether it fills a need or not, this is where I see us getting a player who will develop into a pro bowl caliber player that will eventually take the place of one of our aging core players.

Round 5 I like Jared Abbrederis WR or EJ Gaines CB. Depth at these positions with an outside chance at starting make both of these players a good value with a lot of long-term upside.

Round 6 I'm going best OL available between James Hurst, Cameron Fleming, Trai Turner and Cyril Robinson. Any I these guys have the potential to compete for a starting spot right away and could turn out to be some of the better linemen in the draft when all is said and done and these guys get developed for the NFL. I'm pretty confident that one of these guys will still be on the board and I'm taking if they are.

We have two picks in round 7 and if we didn't get that return guy in ODB with our first, I'm drafting bet playmakers available. The guy with great combine and pro day measurements and physical specimen that fell because of teams needs not being in demand or because they look too much like projects in the earlier rounds. We have our backup QB so no need to take one just because he might be BPA. Michael Campanaro WR, *Max Bullough ILB, Tre Boston S, De'anthony Thomas RB, Aaron Lynch DE, James Wilder RB, Carrington Bendom CB. Bullough and Thomas being my favorites.

I really like Gaines as a possible CB for us, I do like some later round DB's too. Ricardo Allen, Keon Lyn, Qua Cox to name a few 7th - UDFA guys

      I presented that scenario because this is a home game and we seemed to have improved in some capacity in that area as of recently. The problem with the possibility of sweeping the Bucs is this team has had a habit of quickly falling victim to momentum shifts. The Bucs are coming off a bitter loss the same as the Panthers but the Bucs have a much better proven track record this time of year and they have performed when the pressure is on unlike our Panthers. We have a shot against the Seahawks here in BOA but that is a matchup that could quickly get out of hand because they are a well coached team and that goes back to the momentum shifts I mentioned. I just don't see this team beating the Bucs in their stadium to close the season. Tall order to say the least.

      I’d give it another year for Sanders and Evans, I don’t much care what you do with Tremble’s spot. Let him have another year or maybe replace him. Haven’t looked at his contract so that may be the determining factor.

      Following the crazy up down pattern we finish 9-8 with an improbable sweep of TB, and lay an egg in the home playoff game.  I don’t know if I can sign on to sweeping TB but I suppose it’s possible, they aren’t really that good this year.    ps I can buy beating TB Sunday and losing to Seattle.  Then it just gets to can you fluke one game. Any given Sunday. So we’ll see.
