Would Gettleman have drafted Cam?

These are media big boards. The same people who slandered cams name leading up to the draft.

I highly doubt he was anything outside the top ten on actual scouting departments big boards.

Newton is actually 10th in your second link, and 11th in the first.

Link three is a draft website and number four is pre-combine.

And as Frizzy mentioned, everyone you're citing is media.  Actual NFL team boards tend to be a lot different.

But thats really all that matters. Last year seriously proved just how off base the media is compared to what teams are thinking.

Its skewed further in cams scenario due to the slander.

Honestly, there probably was a good chance DG would have gone a different direction. It is obvious now that Cam was the clear choice but back then with limited knowledge what he could do in the pros it was probably too risky.

Keep in mind DG wants a pure pocket passer like Manning or Brady because ultimately the QB needs to be a great passer. Coming out of college there were alot of issues regarding throwing mechanics, his high release, inaccuracy, etc  Given all these facts I think he would have gone with AJ Green or DL.

I was honestly a little surprised that we drafted Cam. He was projected to go mid 1st so I was shocked when he went 1st. I was excited and scared with the pick.

Newton didn't impress in the combine so he probably didn't shoot up.

Anyway these lists show Newton wasn't the consensus number 1 many here seem to think.

In the media.

It's a pretty big jump to go from that to saying he wasn't in the top ten among actual NFL decision makers.

    • And even worse you have injuries force you to play anther one dimensional train wreck combine that with Orlov being no were close to as advertised and boom you have 3 defensemen being dressed who couldn't defend my 96 year old grandmother. That said next year having Slavin,Miller,Nikishin,Chatfield gives you the best shutdown d man in the league two large athletic HIGH offensive potential D who can take away time and space....   The more I think about it the more I like this seasons approach, if you bring back burns or aquire anther large RHS with length you have 5 D all over 6'2 and 210 with three of them having great offense too, make no mistake they want size and skill on the blue line now and its almost 100% directed at getting past FL.
    • Honestly the 2024 draft class(minus brooks). All are in line to be starters, expect crumedy who's fighting for a 53.  Still that class was looking terrible, is now looking like 4 starters and maybe 1 depth. Anytime you draft 2 starters and a key depth piece its a good draft. 4 starters are rare and that's with brooks who could have made 5 starters if not for awful luck.  That draft also helped land starter Michael Jackson in a round about way, big bonus..
