Adam Schefter: Panthers getting trade calls for Andy Dalton
strato replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I know people say it can’t be done this way but I’d see how he plays this year. If it wasn’t good enough I’d tell him look, you are gonna have to play out that 5th year, collect your 26.5 million, and prove you deserve that extension. Which might happen after I draft his potential replacement next year. -
I think with an injury settlement you recoup some or quite a bit of the salary and salary cap. Snow or someone else may be up on injury settlements. I’m just playing through…
-
I am talking about a token payment of as little as possible base for 2027 just to keep him tethered. They waste the kind of money I’m talking several times every year, it is inconsequential. 2-3 million. The real money would come in incentives only after he met them. In which case, he will have earned it. Or we just pay him 17.4 million for nothing and we are in the same no man’s land at the end of the year. Believe me it would be team friendly until he hit the escalators. The timing of this sucked and calls for being creative or sucking it up and plan on him moving on. I am not looking at him being a guard as any kind of given. They need feet too. They need push too.

Seriously--with Bryce's play and his looming contract, we better have a plan B and that is not a 40-year old Ginger. We need a player who can be developing this season so that we have options. The WORST thing that can happen is we have to give Bryce a big contract because there is no other viable option. -
fug it.... KK

Up 3 at halftime 61-58.

Well, I’ll give Morgan credit if he cuts Dalton loose… -
That is still wasted money. Just cut him if you cannot play him at LT. He is no longer in the future plans as far as im concerned. If you plan on making him a guard are you going to extend him when you don't know if he can play that position? It makes no sense to try to rework a contract on a big man with this injury when you can just cut him and have all of the cap savings to use on your new rookie LOT and another position of need.
-
I think I’d prefer Hill Jr myself too but overall I would like that draft. I am there after the 3rd too. I don’t pretend to know 200 players and how they would or wouldn’t fit. Same for me every year pretty much, I learn them after we take them. 2023 was the only exception in years.

please please please. 1st 2 dont need any introduction. Sutton is a swing for the fences. absolute crazy athlete, with inconsistent results. if he doesn't hit his max potential, he is still a JAG+. I'm a huge fan of Logan Jones. Crazy productive captain of the best OL in football. little light in the pants today but great mobility and feisty as hell. i value high start count with production and Jones has both. tested well too at the combine. Koziol is a large post up guy with sneaky athleticism. He has a frame to grow into and may be a marginal blocker but will be a matchup issue as a receiver. ok production as a redshirt freshman and sophomore. went supernova at ball state in 2024. great production at houston in 2025. tested well a combine backing up production more than just softer competition. still a work in progress as a lead blocker. VJ Payne isn't a thumper at the FS position, but a ballhawk. great size too. imo he is gone before this or 158. He is the picture of the modern FS. ton of starts and playing time, 3-year starter, true senior and started games as a true freshman too. Caldwell is 6th rounder and for that athletic profile worth a gamble. there is DK metcalf then this guy in RAS.

Well, thanks for about two good games Andy. They were a welcome respite. -
Joe Person mock draft. Mar 5.

Just interesting to see how people around the team and administration feel vs those in the national media not as close to the team draft, such a crap shoot ickey situation is huge to me got to,have a decent, reliable left tackle plus one or two swing Ts, it is a long year. -
Not talking a real extension. (I would never do that either) Talking basically about buying a little cap space and it being more of a retainer that can be revisited.

I'm shocked. Didn't see this coming. -
I would rather release him with an injury settlement before I would consider an extension. You do not extend a player that may never play at a competitive level again. That's Marty Hurney level GM'ing right there.
-
The first 3 picks would certainly help this team and would dill immediate needs. Must be why it feels like a needs based mock. If that was the best they could do I would comfortably say that they got 3 starters out of that group. I know nothing about the rest of those picks.
-
And they had no doubt planned on it to be that way with Icky’s deal. But it can’t be a normal extension like he was about to get. Put some incentives in there that could take it up to that level if he heals up great. If he doesn’t want to work with that, I would do what I had to do now and after the season. Before blindly paying.

Much better 2nd so far for the hornets. Up 6 now.

Me, too. But I'm a huge music buff and could listen for hours. Any Blackberry Smoke fans out there?

I hate it -
An interesting thread would be: Who replaces RBA? And it can't be just another retread- the league is overflowing with them.

Oh I'm already predicting the rod glazers will be happy being an also ran again.
-
Deja vu all over again. The only difference being it doesn't look like Florida will be the other one.

Ehhh I usually just read kindle on my phone after two minutes or so of gold glazing rod. Music not moving in the car gets me amped for no reason (I'm a classic/hard rock kind of dude)
