I'm an old man, too. My back hurts and I yell at the clouds plenty. That's why I use the antenna. I have never paid for cable TV. I have cable internet, but not TV. I get that we can feel like companies charge too much for a service, but I don't believe they are price gouging. They are simply working in the free market. When their price gets too high, either customers will decide to find another source or not watch at all. When the system is working correctly the customer always feels like they could get a slightly better deal and the supplier always feels like they could have charged a little more. On a side note, is there anyway you could post that pricing plan from the 1900's. I would love to see what we were complaining about back then. -

I don't like round pegs and square holes. I can be find with either. You just have to pick one. It's been that simple from the start. Carolina remains in the round peg/square hole phase of life. again, you are fixated like most Bryce supporters on how passes are graded. Again, Teddy Bridgewater can grade well on the deep passes overall he happens to make. If he grades well on those select passes.....that doesn't somehow magically mean he isn't checking down out there is isn't pulling trigger when he needs to. The well graded deep pass doesn't make Teddy a gunslinging chunk passer playing the way a scheme would need him to. They remain two different things. his deep ball at Bama wasn't good. That's not my soapbox but you can find threads on that too where that he been discussed in detail. He just could just make off target throws to wide open dudes. -

don't blame the cable companies for high cable bills blame the networks/channels that are charging the cable company for the privilege of carrying that material. ESPN itself runs about $13/per subscriber AND there's contractual obligation to keep ESPN on the basic tier, regardless of whether the household watches it or not. The cable company ain't making money on the ESPN carriage fee there's a terrific book about the history of ESPN that goes into how they created their carriage fee ... and how cable companies were stuck having to pay it because that's what the customers wanted. Then again, when ESPN started it was just cents per subscriber, so didn't sound as painful as it is today All the carriage disputes that happen (like YouTube TV's upcoming FOX blackout, if the contract isn't signed) are because the cable company is trying not to raise rates for their customers, but the channels are saying "pay up" -
That dates back to my college days and their turn toward "idiots screaming the dumbest hot takes at each other" programming. ESPN was a helluva lot better when it was basically just live sports and a neverending cycle of SportsCenter. My dorm TV was pretty much on ESPN 24/7 back then and then came the hot take bullshit.

Sunday Ticket was never intended for local viewers to watch the local team (local games are blacked out on the service) For out-of-town viewers who want to watch their favorite team? The price is on par (or cheaper) than going to a sports bar to watch their game, with the added bonus of being able to watch other games too it'd definitely be cheaper to offer a per-team subscription, but there are technology restrictions in figuring that specific subscription model out because it's not always the same network feed week after week That YouTube has determined there's interest for a monthly option, that's a step in the right direction that they're actively listening and trying to make things work without disrupting the base model -

The league will never agree to it because it would make it painfully obvious which team's were actually driving the revenue for the league and the owners of those teams would start wanting their fair share of the cut versus an equal share. -
They have essentially turned it into the View. I was over my mother's house doing some yardwork and had went in to get water. I hear these women shouting over each other, unable to make points due to interruptions by cohost, thus seeming incoherent, and in the end just coming off as next level annoying. It was the View. At some point ESPN execs looked at that format and were like you know what might work!

It really seemed to me that the wind went out of Frank's sails when it became obvious we were drafting Bryce. Bryce didn't fit his system and he knew it. I don't know if we led him to believe he'd have more input on the QB decision or if he just thought he'd be able to get in the room and be more convincing, but either way that was a combo that was never gonna work out. -

Math in favor of them. That is the same logic I would expect them to spew. I am old, so I remember when cable prices were substantially less and things like this were just included. We just keep falling, and because people will pay it (and seemingly defend it) there is no reason for companies to stop raking us. I am sure I will get the old man yells at cloud meme for this, but I just found a price guide for cable in the 90s and it was insane how much they have increased since then. -

That's why I never understood the Bryce pick for Frank. He never fit a Reich offense. Stroud was far more of a fit for Frank than Bryce ever was. Thats why I always thought Bryce was a Dave/Nicole pick instead of a coaches pick. It never made sense from a scheme perspective. -

Cam had lost his ability to throw deep from the shoulder injuries and CMC was really the only receiver we had on the roster who fit what we had to tailor our offense to in order to adapt to Cam's new arm. We'd built an offense around running the ball and downfield passing. A better coaching staff would've been evolving the passing game to be more balanced but we had a pretty limited offensive coaching staff and they had a cheat code at QB. -

Exactly I can see how people who live near their favorite team would hate it, because I'm sure they'd love to have it to watch other games, such as for fantasy watching. But the cost is way too high if that's what you're getting it for, if you don't need it to watch your favorite team, it doesn't make much sense to buy. But I'm saving money on the season, getting to listen to the commentary on our games (which when you go a decade or two of only getting that a couple times a year if you're lucky, it's pretty nice to have), and then get to watch all my fantasy players (and opponents) every week of the season. So the price doesn't bother me, it's totally worth it. -

Norv's "efficient" Cam was my least favorite Cam. CMC got 100+ balls both those seasons and it was way to much just checking down to CMC for me. Depends who my QB is. Efficient just wasn't what I was fixated on with Cam. Tailoring to Cam allowed Cam to be special. It was fun. Best time to be a Panther fan. -

You have never liked him and trash him at every turn. His rookie year you might have been right but blamed him instead of the terrible offensive line and no receivers to help. Last year with an improved line and better weapons things turned around when he returned from being benched. https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/news/new-stat-panthers-qb-bryce-young-immense-talent-clearer#:~:text=Zach Roberts | May 20%2C 2025&text=Bryce Young broke out last, yards without pressure in 2024.&text=When throwing deep%2C which is,be 13th in the NFL. His deep ball was ranked 10th among all QBs with and without pressure. PFF said his deep ball performance was the best in the league week 12 against KC who ended up in the superbowl. Truth is he has made huge improvements and with his improved receiver corps and consistent offensive line he will be better this year. His deep ball at Alabama was very good so it isn't like this is a shock. You need to allow facts to inform you instead of forming an opinion which you hold onto regardless of reality. -

I don't have a dog in this fight (I use an antenna and almost never miss the game), but I don't read tukafan21's post as defending the corporation. He just laid out the math. -

Because it's not that bad, it is literally saving people money if they don't live near the team they root for and are able to get them on local TV every week. Do I wish it was cheaper? Sure, of course. But I can also objectively look at it and say it's saving me money compared to needing to go watch it at a bar ever weekend. And before anyone says to just stream it, I did it for a while once Covid hit, partially because we were so bad so I didn't care about the problems with it, but it was just awful. To begin with, sometimes they just flat out didn't work, sometimes the quality sucked, sometimes it would just buffer every 30 seconds and be nearly unwatchable. The $450 this costs for the season is a significantly better deal than the $180 I have to spend to watch Wrexham matches for the season. That pass, you have to sign up for an individual team and you only get their games (and not even all of them sometimes). At least with Sunday Ticket, you get every single non national or local game, which again, is amazing for fantasy football junkies. -

I honestly don't think that was as true as most believed. Cam was a very efficient passer in Norv's system and again in his year in NE. I think we hurt him in his development and as an overall QB trying to tailor TOO much to his unique talents. The read option should've always remained a staple, but after year two the passing game should've evolved into a more typical modern day NFL passing offense vs. an obsession with chunk play deep ball setups. -

I can't imagine defending a corporation like this. Things have gotten so much worse over the years, and for some reason, people fly the flag for them claiming it's not that bad. -

because scheme, fit and what you ask of different players matter in the NFL. It's more important than talent often. Where QBs land often determines their success. Peyton Manning and Cam Newton can both be great. But you can put Cam in scenarios/schemes where he would suck. Same for Peyton. I mean, if Washington asked Daniels to run what Joe Flacco did his last year in Clev.....it doesn't go as well for Daniels last year. If you asked Joe Flacco to run this year what Daniels did last year doesn't work. I have been consistent, if you were going to draft a unicorn then go all in on that and give it a go. We never did. It's why I compared Bryce to Cam. It had to be a Bryce centric O and not inserting him into old man football. They compare in needing the scheme and ask to factor in their playstyle. Cam needed a Cam tailored O. And if you are going to run these old schemes and play....then don't waste our time w/ Bryce. -

This is all most of the "Bryce haters" are saying. Sure, you have a few who remain all the way out on him but most of us are somewhere between "doubtful but willing to wait and see" and "cautiously optimistic". Personally, I find myself flip flopping between those two stances. Prior to the preseason games I was more on the "cautiously optimistic" camp but after we looked like rotten steaming hot garbage all preseason it's tough not to fall into the "doubtful but willing to wait and see" camp. -

you make a very valid argument. I still think the data maybe a little off because 1. Bryce hasn’t had time to fully develop and have the training wheels off. 2. He was a different player during the last couple of weeks compared to the first. So how do those numbers look? has Bryce turned the corner and those last weeks are him finally figuring things out or did he just happen to play well for a few weeks due to luck and random factors. we’ve see bad players able to to play well for a few weeks before. it kinda reminds me of a few years ago how people said we had a top pass defense when in reality we didn’t, the numbers weren’t that bad because the attempts teams passed against us were a lot lower because teams mostly ran against us. If you actually looked at per attempt stats, pressures, sacks, turnovers you would have seen that our pass defense wasn’t that good. -
Let's hope the running game is working or it's going to be a long day.

The part the true believers don't want to grapple with was that "the best of times" Bryce was still basically a mid-tier starter and that might be generous. If he doesn't continue to progress from there then we're cooked as an organization. It would be QB purgatory. He'd basically be just good enough for the organization to be afraid to move on but not good enough to compete as a legit contender. I'd rather he flat out bomb than be the guy he was after the benching. I don't want purgatory. All I want from Bryce this season is boom or bust, please nothing in between.
