I wanted Stroud as well because Reich only wanted folks who fit his scheme and he isn't a good enough coach to adapt to his players. Canales didn't have that choice and was hired knowing that his job was developing Bryce. To his credit he was able to embrace the challenge and make the necessary changes. -
I just wish the man would file his paperwork for retirement so he could get the accolades he so richly deserves form the Panthers and the NFL He is being a damned knucklehead

you can't turn Teddy Bridgwater into a gunslinger just because that's what you want. It's DNA and tools. It's pretty simple. You can try to make the best of what you have though. Trying to make it work, doesn't change what Teddy naturally is. Remember, folks argued that silly one too. But it's the same logic here. It's like saying, you know what Jake.....let's no longer gamble. That's over. We are just taking the safe checkdown. Get it out nice and quick. Sure, it might work here or there. But eventually he gonna see 89 in triple coverage downfield and say fug it. round pegs are round pegs. round holes are round holes. we have seen people trying to force them forever......but the saying exist for a reason. They generally are what they are. the Luke comment was just a fun nod and trying to wrap this up friendly, I was trying to largely let you off the hook on all of your very stern lectures of the Tepper era we are in.....and how horribly wrong you have been there about what was coming. Guess you got the goldfish thing going on with all those. I would too. -

But Frank had the option to choose his personnel. He wouldn't have to adapt his scheme for Stroud nearly as much as Young. It makes no sense to draft a player then have to redesign everything you do when your boss isn't known for patience in delivering results. Plus his demeanor changed after the draft. He lost interest. Frank wasn't my choice for HC, Ryans was. It's all really irrelevant at this point, Bryce is our QB and if hope he's successful. -

You make little sense trying to argue a point which isn't germaine. If it was a round hole versus square peg that has changed. It no longer applies. So no you aren't in the present or you would acknowledge the change to where they are on the same page. As for the luke Kueckly agreement you finally hit one. Meanwhile not only did I tout Kueckly but others like Cam, CMC, among others when many on this board were critics. -
Early season games are always a big coin flip since preseason rankings are just complete projections based on some varying combination of legit expectations and hype. I mean, we all know that the blue bloods are gonna be good but how the tiers are gonna actually break out and which mid-tier teams are gonna end up punching well above their weight? Total crap shoot. I think my Heels may have a chance to be one of those mid-tier teams simply riding competent coaching and a feather soft schedule. We'll see...

Yeah, now go watch them throw those balls. There's a BIG difference. -
Dayum, so it went from a late round pick swap to basically a 4th. Not too bad. First mingo for a 4th and now this. His drafting skills are TBD but he at least so far has some negotiating skills

I wasn't comparing them, you were. Nor was I comparing their overall game in any way. I was comparing the single thing you pulled up as your argument. -
Bit of a coin flip but I think you gotta favor Clemson in that one. Clemson probably rolling w/ the best overall roster in college football this year. Everyone returning essentially. At home. At night. LSU obviously has Brian Kelly as a HC and it's opening weekend. So, that's what it is. Plus, LSU got all sorts of new players and bodies everywhere to figure out. I do think the Clemson game will be the best of the big games from a pure entertainment aspect. And as a Clemson fan, best time to catch LSU is right now vs later when they figure things out more.

Yeah, when I watch Burrow play and then watch Bryce play I see no difference whatsoever. Switch their places and I expect we'd see minimal difference in the Panthers and Bengals offenses. Said no rational person ever. LOL -

Perfect example. Now compare the receivers. Here's a secret for you. Deep balls and how good they are is actually at minimum 50% on the receiver. Their separation, their adjustment to the ball thrown, their catch rate, etc. The Bengals receivers greatly help those numbers. The Panthers receivers have historically very much so hurt those numbers. Deep balls are the most overrated thing to judge a qb on that there is. -
3 games this weekend featuring matchups of top 10 teams? Heck yeah! and most of the more popular local teams got some fun looking matchups as well. Really need to prep the wife about how little I plan to do for her this weekend.

Neither outcome would be shocking.

yeah, what people are isn't irrelevant. Even your link acknowledges the square peg/round hole situation. the entire argument boils down to...but the round hole is trying to make the square peg work. And yeah, it can lead to some improvement when you try to make things that don't fit....sorta fit. But generally they never actually fit because one is naturally a square peg and one is a round hole. So it's making the best of a situation that really isn't supposed to be paired up. I'm in the present. But I have looked back at the scorecard for your annual preseason lectures though.....and it ain't a great record for you but it's all love. We will always have that magical season where we united on Luke Kuechly before the rest of the board did. -
Agreed, although I do think some will go to Coker, at least at first. Hopefully, they can work Sanders in as well. One of the the things I liked about the last few games of last season is that I thought that Young and the offense did a pretty good job of spreading the ball amongst the receivers. Against Atlanta for example, there was no true number one target. We had 7 guys with 3 or more catches, and that is when an offense works best imo.

LSU will beat Clemson. Not some big upset. Buckeyes beat Texas as well. Should be fun

fug this noise. I pirate all the games while out of state. And when the day comes where all options are gone but forking over a preposterous amount to these companies, I will walk away from the NFL completely. IMO, the problem with prices does boil down to people like tukafan not putting their foot down and walking away. Real estate, entertainment, etc would all be cheaper if people didn't overpay/ - Today

The NFL is run mostly by men (I assume). So, as soon as you say "smaller packages" you have lost their attention. I'll see myself out. -

We are surely overdue. And we better really improve if we are going to appear in the superbowl every 12 years. I think that is 2027. -
Based on what I've seen from Smitty's commentary recently, this seems like the worst advice ever. Smitty is terrible on the mic these days. Listening to him ramble on and on about god knows what while Jake and the other guy desperately tried to pivot back to the actual game they were supposed to be calling was nothing short of painful.

That is irrelevant since Canales has adapted his style to Bryce. Here is an article which explains it. Again try to keep up and live in the present. https://www.readoptional.com/p/was-bryce-youngs-leap-for-real -
