He was saying that because Minnesota's offense is considered super QB friendly and Seattle's is well ... Not as much so.
-
Plus he was asked to be the starter with the Saints and went 6-8. If a backup QB gets you anywhere near .500 that’s amazing value. Using his time at the saints as a negative just shows how out of touch this argument even is.
-
And yet the Eagles go out and actually try to improve it. Winner's mentality compared to a losers mentality. Winners, while already good, try to get even better even at mundane things like backup QB. Losers have the mentality of 'this is the all we got, so just make the best of it." I could care less about Dalton one way or the other, my ire is squarely pointed at our inept front office.

I don't think that either of them are top-tier starters, but I wouldn't call Darnold a bum either. I WAS definitely more excited for Mayfield than him certainly, but the man did lead the Vikes to a 14-3 season last year: Key Stats for Sam Darnold in 2024 QBR: 102.5 Passing Yards: 4,319 (career high) Touchdowns: 39 (career high) Completion Percentage: 66.2% (career high)
-
I'm willing to give him this year. If he crashes, then regrouping is needed.
-
It's crazy the level of value the Panthers place on veterans like Thielen and Dalton. And folks look at our win percentage the last several years and can't figure out what's gone wrong.
-
Historically the 1st round is also a coin flip. Its slightly over 50% that the player becomes a regular starter or better.
-
I see the rationale from some folks regarding the level of play from terrible QB's like Andy Dalton as being like someone who has been in abusive relationship for so long they make excuses for their abusers and even defend them. Very sad. But it happens.
-
There's maybe 2-3 elite QB's, another 6-7 really good ones and then a bunch of meh.
-
Deck chairs. Titanic. Backup QB is what fans of teams like the Eagles argue about.
-
I'm not going off my personal feelings... If I was, I'd have Bryce as the backup and would be trying to trade him and start Dalton for this year. lol
-
Yeah and that is why I am flabbergasted that all this wailing and gnashing of teeth over fuging backup QB's is even happening. Who. The. fug. Cares.
-
If we had a really good backup, Bryce would be looking over his shoulder. Facts. Dalton knows his role as a backup/mentor and isn't gunning for QB1. A ambitious, young, talented backup would create a QB competition and that's something this team doesn't want for some crazy reason.
-
I can't help you see it, buddy, but it really shouldn't take much more than a look around NFL depth charts and it should immediately become fairly obvious he isn't anywhere close to a lower end backup. The Saints and their QB "decisions" are probably not the best example of a functional organization. But, please do tell me how Tyler Shough is the guy we should really have.
-
Historically anything outside of the early first round is a coin flip.
-
Right? There's an image just a page or two back showing all of the QB2s, but all of this hand wringing over "We won't win if Bryce goes down!" and "We can't properly evaluate the rest of the talent on the roster with Dalton either!" is a hell of a commitment to fear and anxiety. "I'm right and anybody that disagrees with me is living in an alternate reality" is crazy work. It's giving narcissism before lunch.
-
I mean, Darnold is a bum and has always been. You will see that in full form this year in Seattle, I predict, on the way to being what he should be....a career backup QB. Mayfield was literally a good QB prior to us getting him. I never bought into the "Mayfield is a bum" stuff. He wasn't/isn't an elite QB but he is far from a lower tier starter. They didn't work out well here because how in the fug could you in the conditions we had for them?
-
It's true, but also the best backups in the NFL are not very good. Relatively speaking. There's not 30 good starters.
-
He is one of the nicest guys. Doesn't make him a good QB. When the New Orleans Saints are more adept at identifying this that is a big problem. And let's be real. If this coaching staff thought anything positive of Andy Dalton they would not have fully exhausted any and every opportunity to get his ass off the field after horrendous perfomances. Thumb sprain last year they milked it for all it was worth. Then this year in preseason it was an elbow strain after he threw a pick and sacked himself. You guys need to face the music sooner or later.
-
Yeah, I mean effort is certainly a word for it. I would largely call the Rhule/Fitterer era as floundering about.
-
I guess you can question he can actually perform as such given the weaknesses around him on that front 7 and w/ a year off? If I am an opposing offense, my gameplan upfront is just Derrick Brown. Doing all I can to get to those LBs.
-
Vikes looked at our trading history and thought they could clown us too Can't really blame them tho
-
You can disagree with it if you like, but he is in fact considered one of the best backups in the NFL.
-
Ouch! True, but ‘ouch’ none the less…
-
I mean reality says this is simply not true. He is bad. He was bad with the Saints and that's why they rejected him and moved on. You are living in an alternate reality. That's why we cannot come to an agreement.
