Hope it works that way. An ancillary benefit of having so many holes.

I made the point it was one side of the story. But what he said about Gettleman, the chronology, seemed pretty accurate. What I remember is Smitty’s contract was prohibitively expensive due to its structure and he would not renegotiate. Sort of forced their hand because it was a very high figure for the era. That could tie in with him wanting out. I remember I pointed that out but people didn’t want to hear that at the time. I don’t blame them, Smitty was probably my favorite Panther I ever watched play, again… at the time. He might still be if I went back and watched. My thing with it is mostly Gettleman dropping the bomb at the combine. It foreshadowed his Norman melt down, Mr Tact.

Former NFL Network’s Lindsey Rhodes on Carolina Panthers

How can they be sure he’ll succeed if they don’t give him every chance? In case I need to say it, that is sarcasm. -

I like the idea that if we have an opportunity to trade back due to a QB or maybe a really good WR falling that we do it and get some better value a little lower and at the same time have ammo to move up in the second. I don’t like where we are sitting there. I’d at least like to move ahead of Atlanta and TB in round 2. If we could swing it. -
I thought Smith wanted to leave, and/or asked to be out.

Tells me, after watching Morgan, that we will see a very active FA period trying to get us to taking BPA. At the very least day 1. edit: Dan doesn’t seem to be too worried about the cap. I believe a direct quote from McAfee is “you can always make money” when asked about the available cap. Cap keeps going up every year. A salary now that is very high will probably be average in three to four years so I won’t sweat that stuff too much. -
Are you all assuming Smith is telling the truth? Since when is he a truth person? He's a prick and the truth is not in him. Sorry, not sorry.

More From the article... Something an NFL head coach said to me, unsolicited: "Watch for Tua [Tagovailoa] in Atlanta." If the Panthers lose running back Rico Dowdle in free agency, I don't think they'll rush to find an external replacement. They have Chuba Hubbard under contract, they like second-year back Trevor Etienne's promise and they're optimistic on 2024 second-round pick Jonathon Brooks, who has played only three games in his career because of injuries. I'm told Brooks is making good progress in his rehab and was up over 21 mph on the treadmill in a recent workout. Carolina is at least hopeful that Brooks can contribute this season, though obviously, his health history will always make that a question. Wide receiver Jalen Coker could receive a contract extension in Carolina. Panthers center Cade Mays: Some teams anticipate he could make $8 million per year on a new deal. Fowler: Mike Evans will limit his choices to a handful of teams in part because of his criteria. He wants a quarterback he believes in, a chance at a Super Bowl, a top-shelf offensive coordinator and the promise of high-volume touches. Only so many teams fit that mold. The Buccaneers will aggressively pursue re-signing Evans and met with his agent, Deryk Gilmore, on Thursday. Teams I expect to see gauge the free agent RB market include the Chiefs, Texans and Giants, among others. Carolina's Rico Dowdle and Atlanta's Tyler Allgeier are both free agents their respective teams would consider bringing back at the right contractual price, but I expect both to get a chance to hit free agency and see if they can get starter-level money elsewhere. Graziano: The Falcons will release Kirk Cousins before the start of the league year, when his $67.9 million salary would become fully guaranteed under the terms of his reworked contract. Atlanta has to pay Cousins a $10 million roster bonus this year, whether he's on the team or not, but it does not appear to be interested in bringing back Cousins. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/48045815/2026-nfl-combine-latest-buzz-news-rumors-free-agency-draft-qbs-trades-offseason

Freeling doing what we thought he’d do. -
I would prefer them to already be a good qb and then teach them the rest. If you have to teach him how to be a qb when he gets here then he shouldn't be here.
-
Had a huge degen moment lol. Only wager I've placed today
-
he is not a good qb (yet) but his traits obviously are insane so I can see a team falling in love with him even with better options on the board

I think it was pretty much just that. And I have heard that before too. Smitty was telling how he came to be off the team and there initially was a bunch of Gettleman stuff. Then as he got into it it started coming back to him aa he remembered Ron’s role. I didn’t watch that Smitty and Cam video but for some reason I clicked on this one telling about his exit. I hear what you are saying and considered Ron wanted to avoid a nasty situation. Likely having had plenty of Smitty already. But he is the leader of that team and no pushover physically. Send for Smitty and his playbook. You don’t do that, points off the stand up guy score. It has little really to do with Smitty for me, more Ron. And I became less of a Ron fan as his time here neared its end. So I don’t take the trouble to defend him on this one. I wanted to watch because that situation was a large part of me souring on Gettleman. I think I was watching ESPN when they asked him about a Smitty at the combine and I really did not like his attitude and answer. You talk to the player in private not over the air to the world.

That would depend on how many qb's have gone before him and who was taken. If it goes like I think there will be a few decent options that my hang around on the practice squad that go undrafted.

Plotting out a draft plan to take specific positions by round sounds like some fever dream perfect poo storm of past Panthers GMs. -
I haven’t seen anything in Wallace that says more than depth. I would say that is who he is, and encourage him to be the best depth he can be. He is slow to the ball. Around the piles not at the bottom of them. I watched him closely for a few games and he was the guy that stands over the pile. Only shot he has is late blooming. I would not really want to gamble a lot on that happening. I have been wrong before could be wrong here.

Let's see. Who is the better person and has the best character? Hmmmm which one could it be.....
