FA Splash: Panthers sign Jaelan Phillips EDGE
BEASTfromdaEAST replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Huddle: Panthers need a pass rusher! DM: Cool, I'll sign the best one on the market Huddle: Fug you DM! He sucks and is injured get a different one! Me: -
The cap is workable for sure although I think some people here are definitely hopped up on hopium going as far as calling it a myth and this and that. Best case scenario would be to ride it out and let Bryce sink or swim. The pieces are in place and we will add even more with the draft. If he sinks which there is a high probability of it based on his physical limitations then you insert another QB into the fold in 2027 like the Seahawks did with Sam Darnold and keep it pushing. But if the decision makers are not looking closely at the very glaring cautionary tale of Tua and the Dolphins and are mulling over sinking the cap on BY now that would be akin to career suicide for anyone involved IMO. I cannot rule out the possibility unfortunately.

Yeah, makes me nervous a bit too. Makes me want a Oline pick on day 1 or 2. Moton, Hunt, and Lewis contracts all get to where can walk away from after this season. If hit on a lineman would make walking away from one much easier. Wish all 3 the best and hope all 3 could stay 2 more years I'm just assuming one of them is gone at this point after this season.

BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett
SmokinwithWilly replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The question was really meant to make one consider the motivations of the FO. Would you bring in another QB at 4m per season who had a statistically better season than Bryce as a "backup" or would they allow an open competition? I question the reasons behind signing Pickett. Is it about improving the team or protecting Bryce from competition. -
While I usually agree and the Raiders are about as dysfunctional of a franchise as you will find, it has to be concerning that 1) they immediately sign Hendrickson after he said yesterday that he will make his final decision tomorrow (today), which the Ravens knew would be at a cheaper price 2) there are reports from like 10 unnamed people with other team's front offices that said this is the Ravens having buyers remorse. It's not like the knee issues with Crosby were unknown either. You would think a team like the Ravens would have done their homework before trading for him

BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett

Brissett is intriguing. But he'll be 34 near the end of this upcoming season and that cliff for aging QB's shows up quick fast and in a hurry. -
Panthers salary cap strategy/status

That was kindof the narrative yesterday on the national podcasts recapping FA. They said it appeared we were going all in trying to win on the back of the rookie qb contract. Most were positive a couple were like "yeah that is a risky bold move". I like the signings and understand most of them but again if things go sideways not sure what happens -
I'm honestly curious how this will impact free agents with past injuries wanting to go there. They have done it several times in the past prior to Crosby and if I am a player looking for a big pay day, I would outright refuse to visit the Ravens and have a no trade clause for the Ravens to protect my value. Gotta imagine this not only hurts what the Raiders would get in a trade, but also significantly lowers the amount of money Crosby will receive for his next contract. All around dick move by Baltimore and while technically not illegal by NFL rules, it is about as bad as a thing a front office can do.

Most would agree Derrick Brown is the safest bet with kicking the can down the road. The issue is it isn't going to stop there and someone like Jaycee Horn is probably next. That's where we enter murky waters.
-
If they are truly considering it at this juncture they will be lucky to get a job anywhere else with any level of comparable responsibility again. The whole point of having a playoff window is to have maneuverability and that will cease with a BY contract extension for a QB who is realistically bottom 10 amongst all starters.

Chig is the TE I want but I think in a noodle arm BY offense Goedert would be more effective -

Here is my gut: They could draft, in round 2, Stowers from Vandy If not, watch Jolly from NC State. -

A bit long in the tooth (31) but he can play and there is not a huge market for him---I am guessing 5 million. -

I could argue (not knowing if I am right or not) that the fact that we have not used the TE much is based on talent, not strategy. We ran some multiple TE sets last year to improve the run game (which is why I am Skeptical that Tremble is cut) but we need a threat that can block -
Panthers have agreed to terms on a 1-year deal with OLB Trevis Gipson, per a league source. https://bsky.app/profile/mikekayefootball.bsky.social/post/3mgs6dalah22s

Yeah what X-Clown said. He's an athletic freak, who you just bank on never playing with a decent QB and system. Entering the age range we tend to like going after, *cheaper* than the other FAs possibly. I like Tremble more than most, but I think Chig is an upgrade to all 3 guys we currently have. In my perfect world, Tremble, Chig, and Evans are our 3 TEs, but, Tremble's cap number is blah. -
