Not at all you got a day one starter and Nick squirting in the second round last year so how's the top 19 player a frig starter? I think rounds one and two you're looking at opening day starters potentially

Y'all are acting like Walker is a All-Pro on a 4 year deal. He's a rent-a-tackle on a one-year deal that got past over in FA until we snagged him. There are worse things than having a $4M back up left tackle if he gets beat out. Even if he doesn't get beat out by a hypothetical LT rookie, at least said rookie wouldn't get thrown to the wolves and can be eased into the League. Walker also has a injury history. Who says he stays healthy all season?

He specifically didn't say LB. I'd make note of that. Very well could indicate that's the target position.

Wagner played both sides, i believe, but settled in at RT. I'll take the RT that can play both sides if the play on the right side is on par with a couple other guys in question. That's the tie breaker.

It's why I hated the Butler and Shaq picks. When we made those picks, DT and LB were probably our strongest position groups and we looked past huge needs to make luxury picks for depth and future development. Now if we'd drafted guys who developed into perennial All Pros, all good. But that's kinda what you need to justify those types of luxury picks. Some would argue that Shaq justified it. I wouldn't. Just because we ended up paying him like an All Pro doesn't mean he was an All Pro (note: he wasn't). Butler was an outright bust which makes it a really tough pill to swallow for a luxury pick.

At #19, you get a fringe starter, so I guess Dave and Dan are moving up?

The more I research this draft, the more I think this: All of the tackles are developmental. I think, if you have a proven veteran at LT and a solid player (with a knee at 32?) at RT, you go ahead and draft players who might be a year away. They can serve as depth while working for a shot to start. In my opinion, based on the sites I rely on for draft info--there are players who could fall to day 3 who have issues to work out but have demonstrated success on the college level. Here are the OTs I am watching: Jude Bowery, BC. Aamil Wagner, ND Isiah World, Ore D. Crownover, TexAM Isaiah Jatta, BYU (I really like the first two)

I get it. When you have obvious pressing needs you're ideally looking for a starter at #19. Obviously you draft for depth later in the draft but you want early impact out of your early picks. The context of that quote was the 19th overall pick. The other thing to note is that this is also peak lying season. You don't want to telegraph your intentions. Even if we were seriously considering or even targeting OT at 19 the smart move would be to downplay it. Virtually everyone expected us to go pass rusher in the 1st last year and lo and behold we go WR which very few people were talking about as a legit possibility.

They aren't, but Sadiq is overrated. We don't use TEs that much anyway. It's a bad return on the investment at #19. I'm hoping another team has a crush on him ahead of us and I don't have to worry about it.

Yeah, 20 wins for a UNC level program is not a good season. And when a number like that is so cherry picked it makes me go looking. Roy only won 19 games his first season but then proceeded to win 30+ in four of the next five. Hubert never won 30+. Schemer only has four seasons completed and will almost certainly win 20+ next season likely with an overall winning percentage significantly above Hubert's. Schemer just has to figure out how to close the deal in the big dance but it's hard with a revolving door of ine and doners. Yeah, those kids are super talented but they're still freshmen and are prone to doing dumb poo when the pressure gets dialed up to 11. Always been the case, always will be. We can go back to our '93 title as a perfect example. Michigan's Fab 5 with a super talented freshman dominated team and the best of the bunch cranks in crunch time first with an uncalled obvious travel, then the infamous timeout with no timeouts remaining. Freshmen gonna freshman.

I don't believe in hiring coaches that don't get an interview request from another team but it is what it is.

According to Joe person's latest conversation with canales that looks like it could be the case unless you believe we sound Walker as a backup which I doubt he would agree to?

It’s a weird thing to hang your hat on. Like one year he had 20+ wins and missed the NCAA tournament. Are we to believe that is a successful season? Roy Williams made 5 tourneys, had 3 ACC season championships, 2 ACC Tourney championships, 2 Final Fours, 1 NCAA Championship, then added another NCAA championship year 6. Hubert is barely making the tourney and losing in the first round when he does. They aren’t even in the same universe. His only good run was with Roy Williams’ players. Borderline t25 to unranked program is not the Carolina standard. And that 5 season 20 win record won’t even last a year since Scheyer is about to head into his 5th season and will almost certainly have 20+ wins again.

Rounds 4-5 for center. There's no dominant guy for an early selection, but a good group of solid guys later on. Be patient.

The article talks about that some. Last time the NFL didn’t start looking for/training refs until July. NFL is admitting that mistake and starting the process sooner this time.

I gotta say, I am not happy about the idea of drafting a guard/center in round 2--I am about 54.4% sure we will be drafting a LB then, but the player is solid.
