Panthers have a Jalen Coker problem.
Jon Snow replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree. At the moment he's our best receiver and he should get a new contract fitting his production. Pay the man. -
Idk..... toe tapping inbounds & spacial awareness of the boundaries for a WR is HS level skills....dare I say Jr High. Checking in with an official and being confirmed that you are offsides only to get flagged for not adjusting is also learned way before Sundays at the highest level of sport. I'd reach out to the Jets for Jermaine Johnson and see if XL + an early day 3 pick will bring him back to help our EDGE room.
-
The first two picks should be DT and OT. According to Daniel Jeremiahs top 50 this class is heavy on wr and O line, namely OT. I'm not sure if that helps us with edge rusher in round 1 as he turns around and has only 2 wrs taken in the top 20 with us taking 1 of them when he has 5 ranked in the top 20. He's all over the place with his mock draft so it's hard to take any rankings seriously at the moment.

Jalen is the most productive receiver in the league per routes run. now obviously this is just routes run/total yards and the scheme can play havoc with this calculation but he’s in good company. Puca is number 2. im not sure that x axis is relevant, but my god Metcalf is just getting mugged. Per next gen stats Jalen reached the top speed in the playoffs. Newton’s first law of motion stays winning. Coker was also the best looking player on the field against the rams. To me he looks just like a young anquan boldin. Coker made just over 830k in 2025. He is an Exclusive rights free agent in 2026. This means if the panthers tender him with a one year contract based on the league minimum, he has to play here or nowhere else. He’s not allowed (wink wink) to negotiate with other teams In 2025 the ERFA was 1.03 million, or 3.1% what Joe person claims Bryce Young is worth annually. three years is the cutoff to become vested in the NFL pension, with higher benefits per year accrued after that. For those that have never heard of a pension, back in the day before boomers “two in the heart, one in the head’d” future generations, your job handled your retirement. Three years of service also unlocks a whopping five years of health insurance; big deal for a player who still qualifies for his parents coverage. Great system, NFL. Roman gladiators were treated better. Electro, I just became a fan when Bryce got here and I can only name three people on the team. Why does this matter? NFL players don’t make money for very long. 40% never get a second contract. A season ending injury can happen at any moment, especially when your qb is a blimp commander who can’t see over the offensive line. Ickey was in line for a massive payday that he absolutely earned. He lost generational wealth (Chris rock joke here) with that patellar injury and who knows if he’ll ever play the same again. He’s certainly not going to get that new contract which is rough but it’s the way things go. Coker absolutely should not play another down for the Carolina panthers without a new contract. He just had a huge coming out on the national stage and has the numbers and tape to back it up. He's the best wide receiver on the team. Yes I know tet got (a very chintzy) thousand yards but Coker is pound for pound the better player. And that’s saying something because Jalen loves him some orange chicken. If he was a free agent this year he’d be the top WR on the market. Panthers have a lot of (honestly very easy) cap choices to make. For whatever reason they’ve already verbally committed to Bryce’s fifth year and are floating a three year extension. They’ve started hemorrhaging offensive linemen, soul of the team JJ Jansen will need his 1.4 million if he comes back, and of course you gotta lock down Leadership Council stalwart Christian Rozeboom. I would argue that instead of giving the worst qb in the league over the past three years another fuging dime you lock up and reward Jalen Coker. This shows the rest of the team that production is valued, regardless of draft position, and keeps Jalen in the building and team training program. Again, Jalen likes to eat. Will the panthers recognize this? I wish I could say the panthers head coach is good at evaluating wide receivers but….yeah. Also Canales let him clear waivers to begin with. Anyway Jalen should be the top contract priority fug Bryce fug Canales Hail Satan

The padded practice restrictions have definitely impacted the game. 14 padded practices during the 18 weeks season and no more than one per week. That's crazy to me. But... As for Legette, he probably is in the best place possible to learn under those restrictions. But drills will only go so far. And it really isn't drills for him. It's knowing all the little intricancies of how to be a WR. That only comes from game experience, in my opinion. Being put in different situations at game speed. Hopefully he puts everything into this offseason. I'm cheering for him. This team needs him.

Legault is also fairly close to returning, as well. Haven't heard an exact timeline. But, he's been skating with the team and is out of the non-contact jersey, last I heard. #BringBackTheWaffleIron

I am familiar with all those players. Whether they took years to develop into their mature versions, they showed what they had early on. The kid is still a bottom third QB after three seasons. There are many of us who did see that coming and are not surprised. The cold truth is he elevates no one. He is more dependent on having things built up around him than should be expected from a legit 1.1 player. And we are still in a hole because of that 2023 decision.

I won’t disagree on the practice time, of the coaching having access to the players. The NFLPA has fuged our game up with their negotiated restrictions. Put these SOBs on back two a days and get the coaches where they can be hands on, watch the quality of football be restored to what I (we?) grew up watching. But this is not some defensive HC with a run first offensive staff. The two senior offensive coaches have WR coaching g background. I am in no position to know what they have done but the evidence appears to say they should have been more pro active. I am not letting them off the hook because of the NFLPA and their crap.

It is simply a team that is unable to beat the teams they should beat. If they do that, no convoluted tiebreaker needed, and a justifiable winning record. Team was 8-10 on the year and showed progress. But let’s not get carried away and throw a parade because of some fluke tiebreaker result. We finished 1-3 coming out of a bye and 3 of those were ‘must win’ games. Only Seattle was not a must win. So we finished 1-2 in must win games and backed into the playoffs due to a fluke. Generally speaking most teams drop a couple they shouldn’t and win a couple they shouldn’t. And that is what happened with our 2 wins over playoff teams. We stole a couple. it was good that we did that, but a true good team does not get swept by the Saints, with a QB making only his second start in that first game. That is what losing teams do. I have seen enough losing teams to know that. Aside from that, I understand the thought that we have arrived and now we should expect to win every week. But I don’t really agree that we are there yet. I understand the FO and coaching staff need to take that posture around the players, but I am worried if they really believe that and start making moves based off of thinking our window is open NOW. . I think one more season of acting as if we are building and the window is yet to open, would serve us better. You know, afraid we are gonna start doing ‘win now’ moves and undermine the build. We are really set up to take a step back now, with this harder schedule, with the unexpected Icky injury, and still with a lot of holes. -
Unless it’s cheap. He is only 2 years from 100 point season and plays 200 feet.

I mean, if you could tell before he ever took a snap... ammiright? Reality, my friend, shows a massive history of the best QBs taking time to come up to speed. Those that didn't are very, very rare. Manning, Rogers, Manning, Young, Montana, Stabler, Bradshaw, Staubach, Favre ... the list of those that took a few years to either get off the bench or make it on the field just goes on and on. The list of those thrown into the fire and just getting burned up is even longer. There's no magic crystal ball. There's just good coaching, patience and a helluva lot of luck in these picks.

I really don't think that's the case. There just aren't enough days in training camp or practices during the season to get the reps he needs. I think he needs to be playing ball everyday (at least a couple of times a week) during the offseason. Slow down with all the drills and working out. Just play ball. That's where he needs to improve.
-
With Canales and a Idzik both having WR coaching background, and on top of that he has a WR coach, seems like someone is dropping the ball on him. We should be a place that is able to develop WRs with assets like that. If they put the attention into him they put into Bryce, maybe they would get some results. It seems like he is just allowed to be clueless.
-
I am with you. I thought he was close under Wilks. And not the problem. That year they fuged it all up. There was no need to bring Mayfield in and muddy stuff up like that. It served neither player. Just counter productive, Neither got the work they needed.

He is a very Evero EDGE. Limited pass rush moves, very strong bull rush and very good against the run. Likely would never have more than 4-5 sacks/season here but a great edge setter and run stopper.
-
XL has all the physical tools to be great, but he doesn't possess the skill and knowledge intangibles. But honestly those guys are all over the NFL. On practice squads. His offseasons should consist of 7v7 only. He has all the athletisicm he'll ever need. Quick enough. Fast enough. Big enough. Strong enough. But just not a very good WR right now. What he's missing will only improve with time on the field with someone correcting him real time in game situations. Catching passes in traffic. Working his way back to the ball whenever he can. Knowing where he is on the field. Highpointing whenever he can. Pushing off without leaving your arms extended. Waiting until the ball is there before putting your hands up to catch. Tracking the ball over his outside shoulder. Leaving room on the sideline for your QB to place the ball on deep routes. I mean there's alot he needs to improve on. Some of it is related, so figuring out one will help him on another. Unfortunately, there aren't enough NFL practices or games to do it all. Just go play football as much as possible with a trainer. That would be my suggestion.

Good lord. You don’t take a guy at 1:1 that takes 3 or 4 years to show you something.
