The Panthers’ Bryce Young Problem is Getting Old

This reads like you would give him an ext or pick up the 5th at a minimum no matter what happens this year. Would that be a true statement? -
A lookback at Morgan's first draft

oof the huddle nail the brooks pick and lol at @PantherChris thats ugly -
There's aren't many NFL level scouts and most are just cycled from team to team and have really long careers.

His completion % wasn’t even high. Think OP misstated a stat. Bryce was 30th this week in completion %. The bottom is where he has been every year in the NFL in that department. you gotta dig real deep in analytics to make a Bryce argument

The Panthers’ Bryce Young Problem is Getting Old

Agreed. Setting protections is one of the more difficult things for an NFL QB to learn but I did see a lot of improvement over the past year. It's still an issue but getting better. Reich hung him out to dry in that aspect and almost got him killed. Once Canales gave him a hot read or option for blitzes and pressure he did much better. The more experience he gets the better he'll get. That's also another good reason to keep a strong oline. Mitigates that a little bit. -

I'll just piggy back off what I said earlier here. The problem with Bryce is and has always been his height combined with his arm. The reason he works so well ad-libbing is that he usually gets out of the pocket or allows the offensive line time to open throwing lanes which allows him to see the defense better, and manipulate the defense because of his legs which eliminates the need to read defense mostly. The reason he doesn't work well in structure is because he can't make those reads at the line on what the defense is running and where to move protection, so he doesn't immediately know where to go with the ball based on coverages/ pressures so he runs the play exactly as it's called and goes through normal progressions 1-2-3. He's gotten better at reading just based on Sundays game because he didn't nearly look as bad at it as he did last year and he didn't have AT to set lines and stuff for him. -
Once Carr left, things suddenly weren’t as bad. The losing seasons went away starting the first year. And they didn’t bring in Lamar Jackson, it was just an okay Matt Schuab but yeah, logically we are the Carr Texans at this point.

Even Kyle fuging Allen won when the pressure was on. We're still waiting to see Bryce Young not play like utter dogshit in the season opener. -

Playing better and winning when the pressure is completely off is not a first overall pick. -

Well things the thing, off schedule should be last resort not first thought. QBs need to step up and navigate in the pocket to make reads. When things break down, sure man rock out with your cock out but that shouldnt be a ton during the games -

And that right there is exactly why we are where we are. Seems to me that Tepper is too lazy to clean all of them out or he is too comfortable with them -

See, this is what I'm talking about. The guy was the first pick in the NFL draft, had a horrible 1st year with little quality coaching, surrounding talent or a defense to lean on. He plays probably the worst football I've seen from a QB in his first two games last year and gets benched. Yet, he mentally never folded. Kept pounding. Became the starter again and played football at a high level. The stats over his last 3 games were very good with some being the very top elite level in the NFL such as 10 TD's to 0 interceptions. The Falcons game was a win and in the playoffs game for the Falcons and was probably Bryce's best game. In almost all of our wins he lead game winning drives. That is clutch. That is some of the strongest mental fortitude a person can have so I really don't know what you're basing this on. -
No I told you analytics are horseshit and gave you the reason why that stats misleading.

He works best off schedule and always has. He had that issue at Alabama. Same with reading defenses and setting protections. It's why he led the 2023 QB class in generated pressure in college. -
This video perfectly sums up Bryce Young/Carolina IMO

Bryce isn't gonna lean on his athleticism to make himself right. He needs presnap reads and protection adjustments. This team is really young/inexperienced. -

It’s largely because XL is in the doghouse. It’s like the 3 Renfrow balls. Blaming him is just comically bad takes. Renfrow set Bryce up for 2 big plays….he couldn’t make the throws though and thanked him with a hospital ball. Renfrow won’t last the year. Renfrow while tiny and high IQ… is a baller. He will put his tiny frame out there. Bryce will end his comeback

I mean at this point he already told us all what time it is. Following his disastrous rookie season which was one of the 3 or 4 worst all time in terms of yards per pass he bluntly stated his first goal was to do as little as possible or shop for clothes or stream Netflix. The complete opposite of a dawg.

lmao why not

And I would argue with little of that. He does have bad footwork and while I don't think he has trouble reading defenses, per se, I do think he makes decisions based off of key indicators and can get easily fooled. When out of structure he adlibs well. When in structure he relies too much on what the play and concept are designed to do. I do think that he processes things very quickly but that may be somewhat of an achilles heel as he can be baited which we've seen multiple times. Jessie Bates probably shows up in his nightmares. I don't see the staying on schedule as much of a Bryce issue as I do a coaching and play calling issue. He's had some of his best drives in the hurry up when it's less about scheme and more about talent. Some of his best games have been when he's just slinging it. -
You would think, having the entire offseason to work on his footwork, it would have improved. I haven't given up on Bryce but damn, its not looking good at all.

Always comparing him at his worst to make his best look better which is just mid. Just go with play it out and deal with it in the offseason over that drivel. Being proven wrong is hard t poo do when mid is his best...and it takes checked out team or Atlanta out there practicing with a rookie at the end of the year.

Smith-Wade was the only one I liked for the value. I gave up getting pissed off during the draft. It's not worth it any more.
