Could also be a smoke screen to get someone like Carolina to take Willis instead of Pickett. These GMs are all sneaky folks. That said, I am sure they are interested to see how well he performs but showing up doesn't mean they are after him 100%
-
True, I am not saying that he won't be productive or even a franchise QB. You just have more homework to do to make him your future QB. I didn't watch the whole clip but some of those throws were perfectly placed and a few on the run. Hoever, the point @The Huddler makes about missing 1st reads can't be underestimated. If he's a one read and run QB we might as well sign Kaepernick.

The talent level he played against worries me some but I also saw some throws that he made that he would have to make in the NFL. It will be interesting to hear what Fitterer has to say about Willis after the Pro Day.

So you're telling me your not applying for Mel Kiper's job. LOL Than again you probably could do better than Mel Kiper. I just have this gut feeling whoever takes Howell is going to have a good QB. Last year at Carolina he had zero help (as compared to 2020). It's hard to replace 4 NFL caliber players (2 WR and 2 RB) in one season. After 2020 many had him as the top prospect going into 2021. I'll be interested to see how much his stock rises, if at all, at his Pro Day on 28 March. I got this off the Carolina page. Howell working out for his Pro Day. I think bring back Cam as a backup to whoever starts for us is a good idea. I'd just like to see him from the start of Mini-camps through Training Camp with a competent offense line. Which I think we have now.
-
Kind of reminds me about all the "not athletic enough" conversations we had last year about Mac Jones last year. I'm still a Howell fan and think he is being highly underrated but I guess we'll see come the start of the season.

We have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. It would be too obvious if we were tanking in 2022. I hate seeing that because many of these guys only have a 3 or 4 year career window and they didn't work as hard as they did to go to a team that is tanking intentionally.

Been a wild couple of hours that's for sure.

You and I have always seen pretty much eye to eye and you're much more in tune to college players than I am. What's your take on Pickett?
-
The options are getting thinner by the minute for a FA or trade. Mayfield or Minshew are about the only ones I would be open to trading for.
-
All this movement and we're doing nothing makes me feel like we are drafting a QB. Whether we're trading down or taking one at #6.
-
That would suck for Mayfield. Seattle is going to be in total rebuild and probably have a terrible year and be on the market in 2023 without much to show for a starting gig. I'm torn between yes and no. He had all the talent in the world around him in Cleveland and just could keep it going after 2020. His injuries don't help him much either. With us he'd be in the same boat as Darnold. Show or go.

PFF's Sam Monson on Panthers free agency
DaveThePanther2008 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Look, as it stands Darnold will be the #1 QB going into training camp. If he wins the starting QB over a rookie or a FA. He's going to have to perform. I've said in many threads that you cannot put all of his problems on him. Our line was atrocious and that's being kind. I think we'll have a much better line and there shouldn't be any more excuses. I hope somewhere we get our Franchise QB but even if we do I'm hoping Darnold does well. If he plays well in 2022 and we don't resign him we should be in a position for a compensation pick later on. -
Lloyd is a beast. I've seen a couple of game of his and he was awesome. I would not be against this pick.

Panthers Free Agency Re-Cap and grading
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
The only thing about this I don't like are all the one year deals. Seems they always play well and we end up losing them. Overall, I agree B should be the grade. Depending on the draft it could go to an A. -
That would suck because it would be 2 years in a row that the one LT I would have wanted went right before us.
-
You never know when the draft gets here but like I said I went to each teams needs and went from there. I think it will be fairly close. The only thing I couldn't nail down was any exact name especially OT.
-
True points. These guys have to put the work in off-season. That said if you are working on things that a bad coach teaches you, You're not going to improve. What I have read is he has his knack and a way with players. Maybe not the older vets but possibly some of the younger guys that were under the previous coach might benefit.
-
Many are speculating on who would be available for us at #6. I went through each team above us and saw what their needs were. Jacksonville is going to take one of the OT. They have to protect Lawrence. Which one, anyone's guess. Detroit has QB listed but this is way to high for any QB. Hutchinson is probably their target and too good to pass up. Houston also need a QB but like Detroit way too high. Probably use the Cleveland pick for a QB. Names like Hutchinson/Thibodeaux/Hamilton/Stingley for the defense or an OT New York Jets mention a terrible defense and Stingley as their #1 target or possibly Cross New York Giants Linderbaum, Karlaftis (Edge Purdue), Devin Lloyd LB, Three of these 5 mention OT. That would pretty much wipe out the cream of the crop on OT. What your opinion?
-
Maybe you're right. I do believe that Campen is going to make a huge difference for our offensive line. Current and our new FA. Maybe he can move in inside and play well. I was not happy at all with the entire offensive side of the ball coaching staff. Hopefully, this year will be different.
-
For argument sake, cause after all this is a forum. What do you do with BC? You say he's not much of an IOL. Just a backup? Let any name above play OG while Christensen proves himself? If he fails move him to the bench or inside.
-
Many do, yes, but that is because the GM doesn't do their homework. Too many good players that slip to the 2nd and 3rd round that shoulda coulda been 1st rounders. Based on your logic the only players that you should be concerned about are 1st rounders. Teams build through the draft with 1st and 2nd rounders as starters, 3rd rounders potential starters and 4th and beyond are crapshoots. You don't waste (Hurney did) picks for stopgap. BC has talent and given the time he will most likely perform well. Like I said if we draft a LT than IMO that is what Fitterer and Rhule thinks best. As long as it isn't some left field player that could be a bust. I just think we could address other needs and let BC play LT. You don't and that's your opinion which I can respect, just don't agree with.
