  1. I'm sure Breer is just speculating but Tannehill would be nice with this team. Plenty of weapons and a decent defense. The price tag would definitely be too much for us. Breer: 'If Tannehill is the QB of the Panthers, They're Okay, Right? It's Not a Bad Roster' (msn.com)
  2. A vastly improved O-line should help whoever is under center. If we can establish a great running game the QB will not have to carry the team by himself. A great RB room. CMC can cause a lot of problems if our O-line gets him to the 2nd level. Teams will need to focus on stopping him. Chubby IMO is going to have a good year too. He's also dangerous in the 2nd level. Foreman is going to be a great short yardage RB and will also take some weight off of CMC. WR will benefit from the running game. Moore and Anderson may have many one on one opportunities and the QB just needs to make the read and get them the ball. Our TEs can have a great year too. Defensively our secondary has plenty of studs on it and Wilks will get Thieves Avenue back. They'll be fun to watch especially if our D-line can create enough pressure. There should be more coverage sacks for our front 7. Special teams has greatly improved. If our defense holds up and our QB doesn't give games away we might just surprise a couple of teams. It would be nice to at least be in the playoff conversation in December. Go Panthers
  3. James Jones is a former player that somehow gives them credibility. Most of these former players are encouraged to say outlandish things. Steve Smith does it all the time. People love it. Doesn't mean they are right.
  4. With this schedule, the question is will any QB we have on the roster, including Mayfield, going to win enough games to save Rhule?
  5. 100% He's why I think we should start Corral. 1. He'll have a decent line to play behind. He won't have to deal with a David Carr line. (worst than ours was last year) 2. Quick release and he'll get the ball out quickly into playmakers hands. He doesn't have to carry the team on his shoulders. 3. His mobility is an exciting trait and if he learns to slide when necessary he'll get fans in the seats. 4, Most importantly, his leadership. He has that knack to get players behind him. Darnold doesn't have it, Bridgewater doesn't have it and it's going to take alot for Mayfield to get it with this team. There is something special about his leadership skills. Jake had it and Corral is much more talented than Jake.
  6. @Pakmeng Is correct, Brady was settling at LT when he finally got a chance to play. Brown was out of shape "according to Rhule's standards" but shouldn't have kept him off the field to show what he could do. You or anyone else is not going to convince me that Brown could have done any worse that the turnstiles that were on the field. Don't be surprised to see Brown in the mix with Campen at the helm of our O-line. Rhule needs to get off his mid round rookies don't play fetish and start the best talent on the field.
  7. Agreed, but this goes back to Rhules future. The only way we chose a QB in 2023 is if Corral get's a chance to play. Personally, I think with a full training camp and a bit of confidence. Corral can win as many games as Mayfield will. Our schedule is brutal. The AFC North has 2 teams that are playoff contenders (Cinn and Balt). If Pickett shows up make that 3 and Cleveland depending on who's under center could be a 4th. The NFCW has the Super Bowl Champ and Arizona and SF potential playoff partners. Not to mention our own division. Rhule's going to have a tough time fighting these teams off. Rhule should go with Corral and hopefully shows he can be our future and might convince Tepper we are heading in the right direction, regardless of record.
  8. Baker won't be on the Cleveland Roster come opening day. However, they can hold onto him and keep him from learning our playbook. They've said they'll take half, we want all but 5 Million. As you said, it's down to who blinks first. Darnold will sink Rhule if he starts but if Mayfield doesn't get here until the season starts Mayfield will experience the same problems Cam had. No familiarity and will probably sink Rhule as well. Cleveland's gamble is Rhule won't start Corral whatsoever this season. If Corral comes into camp and really outshines Darnold, Corral could make Baker obsolete. That is providing Rhule doesn't pull the rookie deal he did with Christensen and Brown last season. The game is on.
  9. They may have no other choice. Cleveland is still asking too much for Mayfield and Corral may give them a better opportunity to win than Darnold.
  10. Can't argue with this. It's frustrating to know our country is as big as it is and we can't put together a World Cup team that can compete with everyone. Usually we are fighting just to make the cut for the tournament. I'm in a couple of bowling leagues on Friday and Saturday morning (weekend in Arab countries) and they show some of the matches while we bowl. They can be entertaining at times.
  11. Though technically there is something happening in football every month of the year the 6 weeks or so between mini-camps and training camp has to be the longest part of the year for diehards. (most of us on this forum whether we want to admit it or not.) I'm off to the Philippines (Olongapo City for all you Squids and Jarheads) I'll be there for a month. So this long period before football starts won't be so long for me. I actually have home right outside the old Subic Naval Base now known as Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority or SBMA.
  12. Unless we end up with a top 5 pick again, I seriously doubt we are going to draft a QB if Corral sits on the pine this year. The O-line is much improved, at least on paper, and he won't be running for his life like David Carr. Put him in, let him learn as he goes. Most 1st year starters struggle at the beginning of their careers. I would rather Corral get his learning done during a season where we are not suppose to be competitive. It would be a shame if we put together a great team and than we throw Corral out there for the first time.
  13. Trading for Mayfield will have it's repercussions if we fail to make the playoffs. (many here predict 8-9 or 9-8 record) You can kiss a first round QB goodbye. We would have to have a top 5 pick to select a QB. An 8-9 record will get you roughly the 13th pick in the next NFL draft. With Baker we are probably going to end up middle of the road. Corral will sit and we will not get any game time evaluation on him. I seriously doubt we are going to waste a mid-first-round pick on a QB. This trade is or will be an ass saving move for Rhule. IMO It would have been better to start Corral, no matter how poorly he plays. Even if he went 4-13 at least we would have an evaluation on him. It wouldn't be the first time a franchise QB had a poor rookie season. If he looks lost we are in a position to grab a top 5 QB. The odds are not in our favor this season as it is. Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Baltimore and who knows about Cleveland from the AFC and we have arguably the toughest division in football in the NFCW. Not to mention our own division. Save the draft pick, start Sam a couple of weeks and put Corral in and let him finish the season. Evaluate him and play for 2023.
  14. What gets me about Cleveland is they are putting the team in a position where they are going to have to eat the entire 18.9 million. They could save 5 million and get a low round pick if they would accept the Carolina's terms. I guess they think we are desperate enough to take on more than we want to. I say we hold out until he's released. To your point, outside of the money issue, Mayfield could come in and show the league he's a starting caliber QB and will get a good deal somewhere. Corral isn't forced into playing and Darnold can carry the clipboard. To me it is a no brainer providing we don't give in and pay more than we initially offered.
  15. Move him behind PJ he's not ready yet. What a wasted pick.
  16. I still don't see us giving in on the salary. We may want him but they are going to have to eat most of his salary. Especially since Denver got us to eat most of TB5's contract. We would be the laughing stock of the NFL if we didn't make Cleveland eat most of it. I personally believe Cleveland will cut him before they let him show up at minicamp.
  17. Both have huge question marks about their ability. Baker a bit better but not by much. Cleveland F'd up and Baker wants out. Either way you are going to have to pay his salary. Better take Darnold who has no connection the the Watson/Mayfield story.
  18. I'd rather run with Darnold and Corral than to pay 9 million of that salary. I'd do 5 because that's probably what we'd offer him if Cleveland cuts him.
  19. For some reason they think his great career is going to transition well in the booth. I'm not one of them. I find Brady irritating to listen too. I don't see him as being better than Olsen. Olsen just has that voice for it. Very knowledgeable and makes a good team with anyone.
  20. You can tell he was on some pretty bad teams. He never made the playoffs once in his career.
  21. This is my UDFA to watch knowing his chances are slim to none. I pick one each year and this is my choice for 22.
  22. That's something I hadn't thought about. Rhule hasn't been the brightest light bulb in the room when it comes to hiring coaches. Though I do like the Campen and Wilks hires. That said McAdoo wants to run the ball. We now have on offensive line (at least on paper) that is built to maul some people. CMC, if he stays healthy, might have his best season as a runner and along with Foreman we might bring back the glory days of Double Trouble. He's had success before. I believe most coaches when they get fired reflect on what went good and what went bad. And take that experience and become better providing their egos don't get in the way, ie Nagy. I get your point but I rather be optimistic than pessimistic. I like all the hires we have made so far and optimistically hope he's the right hire for the team we have. We better hope so because Corral is his type of QB. The next coaching staff, if Rhule/McAdoo fails, may not like him.
  23. I'm glad we got Wilks back but he was a scapegoat so they could hire Kingsbury. He got one year and that was it. Not many coaches turn around a team in one season. He'll make our secondary one of the best in football.
  24. Mitch was good in L.A. and given the time he'll get the Hornets straight. MJ knows what he can do. Mitch is also a former Tarheel and he and MJ are family.
  25. Positives He's quick as hell. Appears to be a good defender. Lots of potential. Not saying he is Giannis but Giannis wasn't very big his first couple of season. If Kai can bulk, with his quickness he could be a real find. Negatives Kai's not going to dunk that this in the NBA. The majority of his highlights are dunks against players that probably won't ever sniff the NBA. It's nice to see him make a couple of three but those seem to be far in between. Anyone know is 3 point percentage. He needs to beef up. ALOT He'll get pushed around by quality NBA big men.
