I don’t even know, I don’t watch a ton of college. I do watch SEC more than the rest but that isn’t enough watching to make me know much. I am a pretty typical fan. I know bad footwork leads to errant throws, but I could not assess the footwork of a QB and judge anything off of what I see. I am untrained for that job. I can see when a guy loafs, or takes a bad angle, or looks lost. But it’s all general observation stuff that people who pay attention will see. I And I can see 5’10” eye to eye. He is going to have to be really, exceptionally great to excel at the NFL level.

Yeah if they offered a 1st then someone thought he was worth it. I always struggled to see elite in DJ. Not that I thought he sucked or wanted to bench him or trade him or that sort of thing, I guess when Smitty said “they finally replaced me” when they drafted DJ I expected to see more and it just stuck with me.

Re Young, I see people making this argument that he is in the SEC and playing against the people he will be playing against in the NFL, and is fine. I guess that seems like proof to a lot of people but not All those players are going to the NFL. And, none to very few, are what they will be after a single season of NFL football. Men. Real honest to goodness badass, Men. That is a big difference I have yet to see someone use coaching as a rebuttal, but it is for sure a variable not being accounted for in that particular argument being made on Young’s behalf. You guys know that a db coach at Missouri or Florida, or SC, is not going be at the level of tneir NFL counterparts, with an exception here or there granted. Like Wilks was at Missouri, okay he is an exception. Extrapolate that to HCs, OCs, DCs, OL coaches, the whole collection of college football coaches. Even the top HCs are generally not up to NFL level. Young will have to go against much better coached players, and schemes where even the weak player being protected was a college all star. So there is no direct parallel, at all really. It seems like an argument that just won’t fly.

Well, I have been thinking since a couple days after the deal that they don’t trade DJ unless they see TMJ as fitting into their plan. Especially when there were other pieces they could have substituted I am thinking “which of the players that Chicago would accept as compensation, can be replaced with the least pain?” should have been a topic inside the Panthers’ think tank, when debating the deal. If there really were multiple possibilities, here comes old ‘due diligence’. You have to have that conversation. If you believe that was discussed you may as well believe TMJr is a factor. It’s reasonable, no? Yes? I’d be maybe buying some of his stock about now.

Panthers are taking Stroud, and Houston knows it

I’d figure at the least the defense will be a work in progress with new coaches, plus the new guys and the returning guys will all be at square one. Some new guys may be ahead from playing for Evero before. If we are scheduled to play our division games later, it probably helps us. Could be in trouble early just from not having played enough. I really think we are gonna run it near Wilks level on offense to try and help the D and the new QB. -
Omitting variables as important as size invalidates the evaluation for me. Would Vegas do that? No. In the situation the Panthers are in now, at number 1? Whoever is the most pro ready passer, within the prototypical NFL QB size parameters, my choice. I see that as Stroud. But I didn't want them to move to #1 in the first place; my answer was always whoever falls to #9.

I am with the year three and he showed a little last year. And the tools he has. And I just don’t think DJ gets moved if they don’t think TMJr is ready to contribute more.

Not a fan but defer to the ex pro QB that is running the team. He should know what he is looking at, and knows what he needs.

This is all sour grapes. Both 'sides' of it. Him all butthurt, I get. Why are fans? Yeah, he is the unwanted one here, in realty. And is hurt by it. He'll respond I think. Maybe not Smitty level destruction, but a Carolina Chicago game could be fun. edit: or really depressing. Also, didn't Moose play for Lovie there? They wanted to have that old Chicago defense. And had some really good players. But they had Lovie. and

Marshall was really good in college, looked pretty good as the year went on last year and is coming into year three. Hope that he can blossom isn’t absent

Point taken. Though I don’t think anyone was pushing back too hard on Wilks’ lead.
-
Not to discredit Fitterer, as in my book he gets a clean slate post Rhule post Tepper 2.0 (we’ll see how long that lasts). But Wilks was the Robbie reason. Loved it too. Take no BS. Fit did his job to clean up the mess and make something out of the spilled milk. edit: if I could rule out the other suspects, Fit would be being looked at harder though.

You can’t get blood from a stone, unless you hit someone up side the head with it. Where is this number one WR supposed to come from? Outside chance of Hopkins I guess. In practical mode, I am thinking Marshall Jr hopefully is stepping up. He has the tools. Shi Smith could as well. I know…. But what is another realistic development? Add one of the FAs, maybe get back into the 1st but these young WRs don’t traditionally give you much immediately. What else to hope for?

Honestly, taking a pay cut when the alternative is no job, not selfless. It is self preservation.

First person I’ve ever left a poo emoji for that I remember Players are not trash, that so ugly.

Not questioning his talent. At all. Pointing out a possible cost vs risk imbalance. It isn’t, obviously, any good to have a player you have invested a lot in, being limited. And he has been. Just looking at that. I don’t know the Cardinals that well, but losing teams accumulate a lot of yardage via passing, trying to play catch up. So I would look into where those numbers came from, which I am sure would be done. As if I have any influence in the first place, they are not thinking of asking me what I think.
-
Too many questions for the asking price, sure he has a lot of talent but he has had injuries and time missed. Age is at a point where it could be a factor with these injuries too, is he gonna keep breaking down? And this is lurking as an issue in my mind: players with leg issues and the turf at BOA may not be a good mix. So what does that mean? Maybe they won’t want to play on it. If they they do sign, and have history of leg or foot issues, how is that gonna play out? I would say it should be a concern.

Trusting them is the only hope, whether you really feel good about it or not.

I am thinking if he has the fastball, he has the quiver full in a way we have not seen. He has excellent touch. It will get better if he works at it. He seems aware of touch, as an element of good passing, at least. Which Cam never did until his shoulder forced it. The ball placement is A-1, but that is a timing thing and on the next level will need to be adjusted up. Which the fastball will allow. one big part of the game. He doesn’t look bad. Maybe I am looking at the wrong shiny object but I would select him if my future depended on it, out of the four or the three, if the best player to select with the #1 pick in a player is the question. I wouldn’t have freaked over no trade and Richardson at 9 but hell no in this situation. Same for Young for that matter. Too small too risky. This guy Stroud has a fastball, he should be it.

Those first two paragraphs, it is in the wording. Is that quote totally in context? I saw Reich comment on the game changing and pocket passers and he did not exactly say it was over in so many words, he said it more like it was heading in that direction. Which seems to be true. I also think he said something to the effect of there will always be a place for a great passer? Less sure of the wording on that one. That last thing about elevating and leadership is absolutely true. That is the ideal. They are down the rabbit hole now. They have hamstrung the offense as a whole in favor of diverting all the resources towards. Decision was made. They did not just sacrifice future resources, they sacrificed current proven talent. He will Have to elevate the play of the players around him. Or fail. I am really excited about the amusement potential here, btw. Add all this up: We have a good OL. We have a QB to protect. Psychologically. Don’t wanna ruin his confidence. But we are slack as hell at receiving talent. Where is a Smitty, Shockey, Olsen? No Chud either. We’ll have Foreman and Hubbard and someone else, probably. You know what that probably means? Might look a lot like Wilks ball
-
Stroud is accurate no doubt. And has a touch I wished Cam had tried to develop because it ain’t always about the fastball. However Stroud doesn’t seem to have top velocity but maybe that is just me not recognizing it on streaming video. You sometimes have to have that fastball. I’d love to have a passing artist to watch. Touch, accuracy, velocity/arm strength if you need it. Are there measurements for his ball speed? Those NFL corners, fast.

Carolina willing to move Corral. Cost won’t be high.
stratocatter replied to Varking's topic in Carolina Panthers
That depends on how much his boss influences the plan. If this blows up in Tep’s face he has to do a “buck stops here” mea culpa and get out of the process. edit: everything I have read has the power structure described as inclusive, diverse and committee like. Owner. Mrs Owner whatever her title is, Fitterer, Morgan, Reich, probably reported to by the offensive quarterback brain trust they have assembled. Caldwell, Frazier, Brown, McCown, et al.
