I see I'm in good company.

We may have not always made the right decisions, but we were as close to winning the Super Bowl as one could get before becoming a footnote in TB12's historic run. The other Super Bowl may have been different but for a shitty call on a completed pass. There's been a few teams that haven't returned to the big dance, much less ones who've reached it period. So, on a curve, we're not a terrible franchise. We're not a great one, but there aren't that many great ones.

I just think that they were asking way too much (as the article said in so many words). That's a lot to give up, even during this time of QB scarcity drunkenness! It was too much, just like the Rams' payment was too much. Too much for our situation anyway.
-
No, we weren't. That was just misinformation! Our FO isn't full of low-key desperate bumblers as some may think. There always seems to be a method to the madness. I just hope they're calculating correctly, while fully acknowledging that they could be coming up with the wrong answer at QB. Even with all the calculations, I'd say it's time for a little luck.

MASH unit? You guys are just way overblowing this injury thing. Sure some of them have had some injuries, but nothing stands out too too much other than Perryman's dis-ability to stay on the field. Hopefully he'lk have turned that corner. That being said, if we can get anything resembling a full season out of him, and YGM, Brown, Burns, Roy, Chinn, and Miller stays healthy, with the addition of Reddick (even without Perryman) the 1st and 2nd level guys, alone, look to be a SMASH unit!

It just goes to prove what I've been saying about Rhule and Fit being cerebral and not just making panic moves, and not being willing to give away the farm. Also, they're clutching the picks this year and in no way believe that our picks are going to be so high next year.

Opesstimistic!

I guess he must have put someone on lock. It's a great pick--that real chain and lock, brim on his head and helmet in his hand, with the compression sleeve on one arm contrasted with the sweaty muscle popping out of the other side means he is the man that just put in work, and his teammates are completely acknowledging that fact!

I don't think we had to do it, but we still have our first round pick. If Darnold sucks, we'll be picking in the top 10 again. I just didn't want to give up any first round pick. I could've slept well if it were only 1 (2022, swapping 2021's) to move up and take our guy, but a first for Darnold would've been a fireable offense. We'll still get a sure-thing in 2022 (provided we get a legit starting QB this offseason). And, we'll still have a day two pick or two in round 3.

we were the only ones who wanted sam darnold lol
top dawg replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
We may have been the ones to pull the trigger, but we weren't the only team interested in Darnold. The. 49ers and WFT had some legit interest. https://nfltraderumors.co/49ers-washington-took-hard-look-at-sam-darnold-trade-before-free-agency/ Makes me feel a little better, but that second rounder is still bitter enough that I want to spit it out. -
Well, it's not a popular opinion, but I don't think that Newton was ever a truly elite QB, mainly because of inconsistent mechanics and decision making, so it's no wonder that we couldn't get the consistency necessary to win a championship, especially when you add the mismanagement of adding a consistently great line and weapons around him. It just was never meant to be.

Do you think that Darnold can be fixed? Point blank! Do you think there's a legit chance? Greeny thinks that Darnold is going to do well here. Why do you think that he's so sure? IMO, Judy Batistta was sounding like she wasn't so sure that the Jets made the right decision to skip the haul the team would've gotten by staying put as opposed to presumably drafting Zach Wilson, and she isn't the only one. I've heard other Jets fans say that Darnold is going to do better than Wilson in the short term, and maybe even the long term. What do you think of all of this?

The jury is still out! At least we know he's reticent to spend a king's ransom when the price gets too high (Rams and Frisco paid top dolla). He also appreciates a value and is not scared to take a chance on damaged goods for a relatively low risk-high reward type of situation. Some people may see that as bad, but I see it as smart.
-
Well, you're probably right. But, it's a cost-value analysis. Cognizant of the fact that there's still a high bust rate, regardless of best intentions, maybe they just didn't feel the need to risk those extra picks. A third and two extra firsts is a lot if you're wrong. You essentially kill your tank your next three seasons, so there's really no room for error.

I agree, but I don't see why "dropping to 8" would kill your dream of rebuilding. We are rebuilding no matter where we fall in the draft order. We made some fairly promising acquisitions on defense during the second part of free agency which will hopefully turn into longer term deals. Reddick, Fox and Perryman (with the IF-he-can-stay-healthy qualifier) were nice values and prospects for a rebuild. I'd say that--on paper and in a vacuum--they may even look better than the Darnold acquisition. I don't think that we're necessarily done in free agency either. Malik Hooker might be a nice get. There are others. And of course, the draft is the main tool to rebuild (and not just with a top 5 pick or even a first round pick). There are plenty enough of franchise players that were always going to be available at 8, and we're going to get one!

I doubt that, especially pertaining to Justin Fields. Rhule tried to recruit Fields at Baylor. I don't think Fields did anything during his college career to change Rhule's mind towards the negative. If anything, he would probably draft Fields if he somehow falls to us. Fields is presumably more ready than Lance who will need some more refinement. Maybe it's not that Rhule doesn't like Lance (or Fields), maybe he's on a little bit of a different timetable. Rhule obviously wasn't enamored with Teddy, but that doesn't mean he wants to throw away the season. He got a vet, albeit one with questions, that he perceives fits his vision better, bit I really don't think that will preclude him from taking his guy if he falls. And, honestly, I want to see that happen. I especially want Fields to fall. I don't believe we will pass on him.
-
We're not going to pass up on a QB that falls to us if we like him as a franchise QB. That's not going to happen. Darnold doesn't change that.

Robby Anderson on Darnolds and the Jets FO
top dawg replied to Daeavorn's topic in Carolina Panthers
I suspect that he had his guy last year, and couldn't quite make it work. Now he has Rhule's guy, and what he does with Sam will go a long way towards determining if any one of them is really worth a damn. -
He didn't say that. What he essentially said is that he doesn't know what the problem is or where it begins and ends, but that Gase and company have issues and that Darnold has issues independent of Gase and his administration.

How much of this was just wanting to get rid of bridgewater?
