Watch Kyle Shanahan turn Darnold into a Pro Bowler
SmokinwithWilly replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
If he does he does. Just will go to prove even more that you need offensively driven coaches to thrive. -
We could, but we would look extremely foolish if we did. And that puts us back into desperation mode again trying to negotiate for a QB. That's exactly how we got taken to the cleaners for Darnold. Rhule had already played his hand with T2G and we had no options really other than PJ. And I have no desire to bail out Baltimore or Jackson at this point unless we got to take them to the cleaners.
-
They are. But teams don't give up 2 1sts, 2 2nds and a WR1/2 under a team friendly contract to draft one. Especially when they have Andy Dalton as their best starter.
-
Not really. 2 years at most. If we don't think whoever we picked is the guy after 2 seasons, we have our 25 first to go after another QB.
-
That would put us without our 24, 25 and 26 1sts, 2 2nds and DJ Moore, plus Lamar's contract at 50m per year with a high guaranteed amount. If we did something like this I'd consider the Darnold trade a great deal in comparison. You don't move to 1 giving up what we did for an edge rusher. And you damn sure don't give LJ everything the Ravens want and he wants when there are zero other suitors in play. He has screwed this up so badly I don't think he's going to see 133m guaranteed offered again by any team. Teams have been told they can't negotiate with a non registered agent. He's lost every bit of leverage at this point. Baltimore is holding every advantage and if we bailed them and him both out, the entire front office, including Reich should be fired immediately.
-
You would dismiss the Eagles and 49ers to just average teams so easily? I don't know that we'd be instant SB favorites. That contract and loss of picks would mean gaping holes at some critical positions over the next few years, not to mention it ignores missing significant playing time the past 2 seasons to even warrant a massive guaranteed contract. I don't think the owners are colluding at all. Lamar has dealt with his career from a monetary standpoint very poorly since draft day. His own ignorance is being taken advantage of and rightly so. This is the business side of the NFL and in this area, he's been no MVP.

He kind of gives me Casey at the Bat vibes. It's gonna be a monstrous home run or a monumental strike out.
-
We've been through this before...
-
It's a much longer time frame, but this is very similar to how things went with Norman except for Gettleman rescinding the tag and getting nothing in compensation. A highly inexperienced "agent" negotiating a monster contract against professional NFL contract negotiators. It was never going to go well.

Mike Kaye: Panthers looking to add EDGE player
SmokinwithWilly replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
If he doesn't get an agent soon we may be able to get him for a handful of magic beans. -
That's what I've been saying for a while. He's lost more than he ever saved by not having one. I'd say at least 3-4x more.
-
His agent was his mom. She may have had his best interests at heart but was completely out of her element negotiating a massive NFL contract. If LJ had hired an agent day 1 he would already have been paid.
-
Watching what's happened with LJ is a lesson to every other player about trying to do it yourself with a mega contract and what not to do. He has botched this just about every way possible.

I always thought it was worth discussing if the terms were favorable and it gave a rookie QB a chance to transition similar to what Mahomes did. They weren’t even close to favorable, so yeah, we’re better off with him in NO.
-
The topic was always about team building, and we disagreed drastically, especially about Lamar and Rodgers. Its all good. The sad part in all of this is how severely Lamar has hurt himself by not getting an agent. Going for a rookie QB has always been the best option as long as we didn’t ridiculously overpay, which we didn’t. Now it’s just a matter of getting it right.

Carr was never worth what he got paid. These FA contracts are getting ridiculous.

Live video of Fitterer / Reich making the trade to #1

Don't you have a birthday party to go to? -
Also for whatever reason, Arthur Smith decided he didn't need to be part of the offense. I thought he may have been on the outs or something with the coaches or staff by how much he was being neglected. If he's being used that little again this year, a trade next offseason might not be a bad thing if we could somehow get past that whole division rival thing.

Unfinished Business (Second most cap room in NFL at $30m)
SmokinwithWilly replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's also possible we may be waiting until during the draft to acquire a player for a pick. We saw a couple WRs move last season, so we may be hoping to do something like that and spend a little less in draft capital depending on who falls to our pick.
