  1. You don't need a blocking fullback to pull a play fake.
  2. But you would rather have three wide receivers, Olsen, and your running back on the field. Five viable receiving options is much, much better than four. The benefit the blocking fullback gives is completely wasted because he has to be there every play except the most obvious passing situations. I'm not saying I don't like blocking fullbacks; I grew up with a Panthers team that used them and that played in a system that needed them. In systems that are run-heavy, they are very, very good. Adrian Peterson wouldn't have had 2,000 yards and a 6.0 YPC average without Jerome Felton blocking for him. But that offense was designed entirely around Adrian Peterson. Felton is useless if Peterson isn't on the field.
  3. The big problem with blocking fullbacks is the same as the problem with blocking tight ends: they can't catch worth crap. Having a blocking fullback or tight end on field is a dead giveaway you are going to run the ball, unless you keep him on the field the whole game, which necessarily limits your quarterback's ability to throw.
  4. We finish 13-3 and are the only team in the division with a winning record.
  5. If the NFL wants to be serious about violence, suspend anyone found guilty OR otherwise proven of assault (via video) for one year. No exceptions.
  6. What percent of designed run plays do you think the backs will get?
  7. Sherrod Martin wasn't bad in secondary, really. The problem was he couldn't tackle. He would have been a lot better as a corner.
  8. In 2013, yes. We allowed the 2nd fewest points and yard. Last year, though, we allowed the 10th fewest yards and only the 21st fewest points.
  9. Palmer had it coming. It is incredibly dumb to scramble way out of the pocket and then set your feet for a throw.
  10. Favors was the guy that injured McNabb in the 2003 championship game. Nobody is really sure who caused the Simms injury... he had a big hit from Al Wallace, but it might well have happened before that. Was still a nasty hit though. Al Wallace was probably the best reserve end we've had. Good twitter follow, too.
  11. Yeah, just because we never went to the playoffs with him as the full-time starter doesn't meant he wasn't very, very good. 1999 was our best offensive year ever, that doesn't happen by accident.
  12. Maybe Cam just wants to get this out on the way so he can focus on football?
  13. Bengals or Colts would be the most realistic options for an 'easy' win. I think we could beat both. In terms of satisfaction, beating the Patriots would be on top. Preferably we would play the Seahawks at some point before that.
  14. Benjamin-Funchess-Brown-Ginn-Hill Not a bad WR corp if I do say so myself.
  15. The NFL is going about this the wrong way - if they want more two-point attempts, the solution is to make two-point attempts easier. That could be accomplished by moving the ball to the 1-yard line on all try attempts, and by requiring teams to attempt the try from the hash-mark where they scored from (similar to rugby). This would make it easier to score a two-point conversion, either off a fake or a regular play, and harder to get the extra point.
  16. Fug me. Does anyone really want to see games decided by missed extra points?
  17. We need to realize it would be impossible for Goodell to cede on most of theses punishments... he's accountable to all 32 owners, and the interests of 1 don't outweigh the interests of the rest. We knew the punishments given were much more harsh than expected, so I honestly wouldn't mind giving Brady a few games back. The organization got slammed and that is what matters.
  18. It's the huddle. Fast receivers always equal good ones. Like David Gettis and Drew Carter!
  19. I've had to eat crow so many times, but in 2011 I was against Cam Newton. I didn't want him to start and didn't think he would win, and I had what I felt were good reasons - that running QBs traditionally are not good, that one-hit wonders in college traditionally aren't good, and that read-option quarterbacks traditionally are not good. It took one game to change my mind - Arizona. He played better in that one game than I thought he ever could; as a pure passer, he looked excellent, and he almost never ran. I changed my mind right then and there, because my opinion was objectively wrong, right then and there, and it's a shame some other people haven't. Cam has had maybe the best first four years of any QB in league history, circumstances considered. We are privileged to witness such a special athlete.
  20. Steve Smith isn't Jesus. He's never claimed to be anything other than what he is.
  21. I'd count 2002, 2007, and 2012 as well.
