The implication here is that the Rhule-drafted players aren't the brightest group out there. I'll defer on speculating on that aspect but it's quite common for holdovers from a prior regime to be gettisoned for various reasons. Given Frank's offensive background and drafting a QB with a high football IQ and overall accuracy, I'd be more worried if I was a Rhule drafted offensive player. At the least, they could end up being used in trades or replaced by cuts from other teams.

It's as though speculation about our first round pick is more chat-worthy than the actual pick itself. As being ambivalent about the whole thing since the beginning, I'm just relieved we can now move on. Let's see how this goes.

My position has remained the same: I can't get excited about this year's QB class at all. I want to be wrong that this isn't the 2013 QB class all over again.

Well, the Sam Darnold experience didn't work out but I do feel he'll be fine as a journeyman QB. Assuming he can stay healthy which is unlikely given how jinxed the 49ers QB position has been recently.

Given how the Bengals were able to draft Burrow and then pair him up with Ja'Marr Chase, giving up DJ in the trade in lieu of additional picks seems like a rational move. Receivers are easier to find and if we're really doing our homework, we may even find another good one later in this year's draft. Also, whatever cap savings we get also helps. The big thing for me was giving up only one future 1st rather than multiple. Meanwhile, Fields has another target to throw to although history of receivers going to Chicago to die is well documented. Both sides got something valuable out of the trade. Media is probably a bit miffed that they have to talk about us now instead of Chicago for the next few weeks.

Not going to lie. The news caught me by surprise. If this had happened during the used car salesman's tenure, I would've been panicking. There is still some trepidation on my end because frankly, I don't really care for this year's QB class at all. But if this staff sees a potential future superstar QB that was worth making this move in the first placen, then so be it. Stating the obvious but who we pick and what happens with this player is going to determine whether the Reich era (and likely Fitterer's) will be a short lived one.

I'm not surprised at all. After all, when we had games when we were able to get easy run yards at will, there was less need to depend on whoever was behind center. Obviously didn't work every time so I presume the quantity of run-run-pass was higher. Lots of 3rd and long when our runs went nowhere. As for the Cowboys, wonder if that's scewed because of all the games without Dak. Finally, do have to keep in mind that a lot more pass attempts nowadays are effectively runs because the routes are short and chunk yardage isn't usually expected.

I'd been advocating for a while that we're going to need a replacement for Moton in the near future. Not sure if I want to use this year's first for it but then again, we had drafted Luke Kuechly when we still had Jon Beason (although I believe this was after Beason was out for an entire season due to injury). Don't really know how Skoronski stacks up but if he's seen in a similar light to Ickey last year, I can see us making this move, especially if we go the bridge QB option.

Way too high of a price when this year's class is thin and underwhelming. And honestly, I can easily see the price being even higher still for us. Namely, the Bears not wanting to drop down so far, plus our future 1sts not being as valuable given how putrid our division was this year and our staff - on paper- being more competent. Risk of our picks being in the 20s for them is much higher.

If the last decade is any indication, you're best off if your QB is still on their rookie contract or otherwise is at the top tier and worth paying for. Carr doesn't fall in either category. Also the fact his prior contract had those stipulations scares me. What he'll probably want will likely be too much financial and from a flexibility standpoint.
