It really surprised me when I heard Darnold is younger than Burrow. For me it depends on how it all unfolds and which one it is. I think Lance would be the guy to grab if he's there. He's not needing to be thrown out to the wolves just yet. If Mond presents value in round 3 (if available) that's another possibility but I'm not taking him in the second. It's all about that big board of ours in the war room come draft day and who's remaining in the top block. Fields could be worth more to us to trade out of the pick to someone like the Broncos or Pats. Could probably net us at least a future 2nd and mid-rounder back and we still get a stud like Vera-Tucker R1 or Mayfield/Cosmi R2. Lots of possibilities. But yep, maybe Lance at 8 if there, Mond in R3. The value would make sense but I'm fine building elsewhere.

Can we take a moment and enjoy what having a competent GM looks like

I’m saying the opposite. I’m reading the room of how some have reacted. I’m personally fine with it. Like I said, slight overcomp but nothing that’s gonna get my panties in a wad. -

Honestly, if the 2nd rounder was a 3rd, maybe there would’ve been a different reaction. IMO one second rounder in the grand of scheme of things isn’t that crazy. And one sixth when we had three this year and that future 4th is indeed peanuts. I think we slightly overpaid but the QB market is definitely hiking their going rates. -
Sewell and Pitts no doubt but think those are the two that go early outside of QB. Lance, Slater or Chase. Maybe Waddle. R2: OTs Mayfield/Cosmi, Bateman WR, Mond, R3-6: BPA OL, LB, DT, CB or TE

Sam is going to show us what we have in this coaching staff
davos replied to Tbe's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m quite interested to see what he can do with a valve to CMC at his disposal. Also interested to add more weapons if we land Slater at 8. Rounds 1-3 become really interesting this year. Would love a tackle and another weapon on offense. -
Solid post. Good sober perspective.

This is the way. Getting a non-rookie on a rookie deal is important for replacing Teddy's contract. It allows us to draft a QB if it is presented (although Slater or Sewell look super awesome for us now) and go into the year with not-Teddy Bridgewater. The Panthers IG is going crazy with the Darnold love today. So the org is fully embracing him right now (understandably) so we've got a new QB in the house. Time to sit back and enjoy the Fit-Rhule ride. Maybe this opens up a Mond pick in R2-4 as a developmental/emergency option or it doesn't work out at all and we'll be in position for Howell, Rattler or Slovis next season.

Cowherd may be almost as giddy as Darnold probably is
davos replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
He annoys me but it's a good point. This is Darnold's chance to save his career. So it will all be at his disposal if he can bloom/tap into his potential. A 2022 2nd is an overpay but not some detrimental loss. I'm not expecting much given what I've seen, Darnold has indeed looked bad, but we'll just have to wait and see. Seweel or Slater definitely become possibilities and I'd be thrilled to finally land an LT -
So then, what are we netting for Teddy and where’s he headed to?
davos replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah it’s settled in a bit more he’s just getting cut and we’re eating it. But looking at the $ post J1, it’s eatable so new QB is here. For whatever that is with Darnold. -

My instinct but a mid to late rounder would be a nice thing. Thing is, teams now definitely know we don’t want TB so they’ll just wait until we inevitably cut him. -
This is not a good signing but it’s us trying something else out. Who knows, but I’m not necessaroly hopeful for Darnold. Fact is that we’ll open the books next year with Teddy gone and save $8 mil more this year. Then 2022 he’s only $5 mil dead cap and we’ve got $21 mil more to spend. The misconception of his contract being huge makes the complaining ridiculous. We’ve still got the same first 5 picks in this draft. Another QB could very well land up here still. Plenty of off-season left and we’re about to get more to spend. Sure, more dead cap but that was exptected and those who weren’t were willing to spend that on Teddy to play again so it’s really a wash minus next year’s second. This is not some huge hit or miss. It’s a medium risk that we took on an important position.

Sounds like Teddy will be Traded
davos replied to Little Goody Two Shoes's topic in Carolina Panthers
We gave up a 6th (meaningless, we have three) and 2 futures. It really wasn’t much. If you’re looking at the money, we’re going to be in a perfectly reasonable spot to do so if one falls. I don’t think we’re trading up anymore though and that’s likely why we went ahead and did this. -

Trade or cut, we’ll eat 15 mil of his contract but it opens up 8 mil post June 1st. So with a vet in Darnold on a rookie deal, we can still draft Lance or Fields, and spend 5-6 mil towards a vet DB or just make it savings. -

Im hoping that’s the comp but we’ll see. -

davos replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah it’s 15 mil dead cap instead of 20 so it net saves us more cap in 2021. It had almost no impact next year and then he’s off the books. It’s not some ridiculous contract some make it out to be. -

Surprised by the responses. You don’t throw this much at Darnold and make it a competition after what we got from TB last season. He’s gone folks. -

davos replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think there’s zero chance he stays on this team. Last resort is J1 cut and we eat the dead cap this year, save~8 mil and then come 2022 it ain’t no thang but a chicken wing. -
How do you miss the 2 other threads meng?

1-Slater OT 2-Bateman WR could be a nice haul or 1-Pitts/Chase WR-TE 2-Cosmi/Mayfield OT Lets get a 2nd/3rd for Teddy and keep this thing going. They must’ve not liked Fields or Lance...or we weren’t finding it possible to actually trade up. Which tells me Cinci and Miami have their guys locked in.
-
We’ll see. A 2022 2nd is the hard pick to stomach but not a bad get. So Teddy will be released J1 or traded. Question is now if a trade down is in the cards to make up for the overcompensation or if we decide to finally get an LT in Slater or Sewell.
-
I'm here if we don't go QB R1. A scenario of high unlikeliness but I'd love: Trade down but still in the top 15 to land an extra 2nd. Use pick 40+something else to get back into the first: 1-high teens: Alijah Vera-Tucker OT 1-late: Jalen Mayfield OT 2: Rashod Bateman WR That plugs the holes. Release Teddy, try out a random trade/alternate option at the possibility of sucking something fierce at QB, netting a high 2022 pick.

I’m not feeling any of the Fields comparisons made in here. He reminds me a bit like McNair but with the build of Cam. I don’t think he’s a sure thing but when he’s been at his best, he looks unstoppable. I don’t think he is interviewing well though. I do think we love Wilson but there’s no way we’re getting him. Lance may also be high on our list but we may not be willing to trade up. Really wish we could’ve somehow landed Lawrence. That would have been so money with the team in place. I was a fan of Mond in 2019, then fell out of flavor but I definitely see what some say about him. Maybe we just land Sewell/Slater and target Mond?
