Honestly, I don't know. We could be both surprised and angered by who we pick up. And I don't think Belichick is going to be free (not that I want him). I think Belichick is doing the most covert tank job of all time so he can have pick number 2 in the draft AND get the QB he wants.

Honestly, if I'm a young coach, I'm going in with the understanding that this can make or break me and that any HC opportunity I will ever get (barring a HC retiring) will be with a wounded or floundering organization. If I'm an experienced HC looking for another crack at the big time, I'd move in with some caution, realizing that almost no one gets a third HCing shot in the NFL. I'm also looking at those high dollar coaching contracts Tepper has given out and how he's still paying for them even after they are gone. Maybe I can make it work out and get some serious concessions, or I can wipe my tears away with hundred dollar bills. Coaches, particularly those with the drive to get to the NFL, will leap into the lion's mouth for a shot. It's built in their DNA; if it wasn't, they wouldn't be head coaching candidates. Look at Campbell moving into Detroit and Payton heading to Denver... both ran into trainwrecks of teams and organizations. Opportunity or a truck load of money, whatever it takes, the temptations are there.

Oh, I didn't say we'd get a good one, just that the list would be long and deep. Unless we get some very good consultants and Tepper can take his football "knowledge" out of the equation then we won't do any better than before. But no matter the situation there will be a ton of candidates for the job.

The list will be long, the job is that much of a rarity. And, honestly, with Bryce we could end up with a situation like the Jaguars did... new coach, new plan, better ability, and you start to build a guy worth the pick. And I'm betting that as soon as the offseason hits, we will get Burn's contract nailed down for a mint and then promptly trade him to a team for a mid-round first round draft pick.

You're going to be surprised by how long that list will be. It's not a matter of what state the franchise has been or who the owner is... there are only 32 head coaching jobs in the NFL and that puts each job in a very coveted position. Really. Tepper has probably gotten 20 resumes from agents already this morning. Not only is the opportunity to become a HC a rarity, the financial gain from doing so is astounding. And even if they flame out, it adds massively to their future income if they move back down to the college level. Matt Rhule, as much as I dislike his coaching, is rolling in bucks right now. Me, I'm just hoping that after Fitterer is ditched, Tepper hires on some serious consultants to help him make the decisions for HC and GM. He may have made the decision now just simply to get first crack at hiring those experts, since we know that at the least Washington will be doing the same.

He's mentally blocking out travel dates in January for family vacation.

Well, if nothing else, Will has made a nice little nest egg to start his life off by being able to regularly show up for practices of three NFL teams. I wish him the best. Heck, hope he catches on somewhere else. The way QBs are going down around the league, he's actually got a shot to go back on and maybe even start... The Jets maybe...

Let's give Horn an incomplete. Out of all of those, the only ones that are performing up to draft position this season have been Chuba and Tremble. That's sad. I've been saying it for years now... we need to completely rehash our scouting department.

Not sure we'd do worse just trotting four OL guys out there and giving the water boy a 71 shirt to wear and head out with them. This isn't a professional football team anymore. Might be competitive at Division III level. JUCO maybe.

We forged our identity during the Fox years and that first Super Bowl run. And we followed it up during the Rivera years with Cam and Luke leading the team. We would run the ball down your throat on offense and let it rip down field when you were reeling. On defense we would just beat the crap out of you for four quarters and try to intimidate you. Yet, we weren't the bad guys, we weren't yellow flag factories or cheap shot artists. We beat you down fair and square and even when we lost, you knew you'd been through a scrape. It was like being clobbered over the head again and again by a book on Southern hospitality. We didn't try to get all cutesy and clever and we sure as fug never played timid like we do now. Tepper bought the franchise and tried to remake us into Pittsburgh south and instead just neutered the cats. After Rhule and Reich, we've become the Carolina Pansies.

I really hate for anyone to lose their job, but its pretty obvious that some mistakes have been made here. Is there anything to be gained by jettisoning the coaching staff now? That early start on the search means nothing if the only candidates out there are also coaches who've been cut loose. I believe that was a big part of the mistake we made last year... It's not like any of the best OCs or DCs out there can even begin interviewing here. And I've seen nothing from this group of coaches on either side of the ball to see anything worthy of giving someone an interim coach gig as a trial run. Our biggest mistake was probably in letting Wilks go. The man had something to prove and we would have benefitted greatly from that.

Until they triple cover him. Then we're screwed.

Well, this won't help. Our games aren't just tragic losses anymore. They are boring and as stale as a Frank Reich offense. Hell make him run it, if we have to watch it he ought to have to as well. Trade Reich, PeeWee and Sanders to Chicago for one of our third round picks. Small price to pay and a deal that even Fitt could make happen.
