  1. Russell Wilson is the only one clearly better than Dalton. He is also the least likely to come here and the least likely for us to afford. I would say that list shows that we really better nail the QB in the coming draft.
  2. I think the small hope was to see some sort of design or inkling of any comptence. That seems unlikely at this point.
  3. Different types of QB's. Howell is a less accurate, gunslinger type QB that has high TO's. That's just who he is. Typical Winston/Favre type. If this were a different era the Winston/Howell gunslingers would be lauded. But, alas, in the modern NFL being TO prone is anathema to the typical offense. It's not that Howell doesn't have talent but backbreaking TO's just limit your usefuleness. Reference Howell's year or Winston's 30/30 season. The same reason you are in the game is the reason you might immediately be out of it. I am not saying he isn't an upgrade over what we have(versus Dalton is debatable depending on how you look at it) but it's very unlikely to lead us to prominence as a franchise.
  4. Canales has very heavy "yes" man vibes, IMO. I hope he isn't like that behind the scenes.
  5. Chasing backup caliber QB's would be a very Panthers thing to do. He's no more an answer to our woes than Gardner Minshew is. An upgrade perhaps but being mired in the 5-8 win range isn't desirable either. Keep in mind he was very quickly jettisoned by the Redskins for better options.
  6. Baker was good before he got to us, so that is a bad example. Darnold is still bad. Anyone buying fool's gold is going to be very disappointed when they go to collect at seasons end. Don't be fooled by "Panthers 3-0 Darnold." The real story is plain as day.
  7. I think 4 wins is really probably an extreme best case scenario. I said 3-5 before the season but I am thinking 0-3 is a lot more realistic. I do believe we are indeed as bad as we look. The offense will improve but the team will still be very bad overall.
  8. Oh yeah, it will be post draft for sure. I think Dalton has plenty of mileage left but his ceiling is just going to get lower as the years roll on. He might slip from average-ish to below average to eventually backup QB only. It's the backside of his career but I don't see him falling off a cliff in the next 2-3. Regardless, he isn't the future so you don't build around him.
  9. I think he gets moved in the offseason. I expect at whatever small price we can get.
  10. Oh I don't mean the Panthers will do okay. I mean Dalton will do okay. I expect a bump from historically bad and elevate ourselves to season's worst.
  11. I think he will get one more shot after here(likely in 2025 as a backup) to show anything or I think he will be out of the league in maybe a year or two after that.
  12. Dalton tends to be elevated by the situation around him rather than vice versa in his later career. I would suspect he will do okay but okay is likely to fail with the current team being what it is.
  13. Bruh, you need to realize that he doesn't have much value. Manage the cap hit appropriately and that's about it. It just is what it is from here on out. There is no Brian Burns deal at the end of this rainbow. More like a Justin Fields/Josh Rosen deal.
  14. Our team is all JAG's. What makes him less of a JAG than most?
  15. Get ready for a bottom of the roster churn all season long.
  16. I think the list will be short. Look at Rosen, Fields, Wilson, Jones, etc. A clear bust will have limited options moving forward.
  17. I think Dalton will eventually get banged up and he will have to play. I do think we move on from him in the offseason.
  18. A lot will depend on how Dalton does. If Dalton is good enough, it's over.
  19. Yeah, this is a pretty irrelevant thing, IMO. I really could care less what he was working on. It does show he doesn't seem to have much passion for the sport. At some level, I think that is a core issue. Not that it would make him more talented but if you don't live, eat and breathe football, it's going to be a tough to excel in this league. Especially without elite talent.
  20. This should let us know how good our offense can be and how competent our coaches are. Dalton is not an elite QB by any means but he is competent. If competent QB play doesn't make much of a difference, then it's back to the drawing board in the offseason.
  21. Honestly, I can't swear that it would be dramatically better. I am not sure this offensive playcalling would improve or not. As I stated before, this is a multi-faceted problem to get us where we are right now. There is no quick one person roster fix to make us suddenly good.
