  1. I would hope Houston would laugh us out of the building with that offer.
  2. So he is the classic middle manager. That explains a lot.
  3. I generally disagree about that. I don't think he would be that successful. In fact, I remember reading an article around the time we signed him where they specifically did an analysis of him in slot and wide sets and his production was significantly lower and IIRC would have placed him in the bottom 10% of the WR's in the NFL for the time period they chose. I can't remember where I found that article, unfortunately or I would be happy to link it. I think Panthers fans get too attached to his skills as a WR when in fact he isn't terribly different than a guy like Kamara or LT or Faulk. I cannot recall a specific example of a top RB being switched to slot WR or WR in general and becoming a top 20-30 player. If you have one, I'd be interested to check it out. That's kind of my point, we aren't being realistic about his value as a WR. It's likely tremendously lower than what we believe it to be. If you asked me straight up to take a slot WR/hybrid player and gave me CMC or Curtis Samuel....I am taking Samuel 100 out of 100 times. Same thing if you ask me about a pass catching RB, I'm taking CMC 100 out of 100.
  4. Panthers fans get attracted to this idea but it would be an admission that we had made a HUGE mistake in signing him. He isn't a slot receiver. He is an exceptional pass catching RB but he isn't a slot receiver in the NFL. Furthermore, we could get a much better slot guy for less than we paid him. Running the football with him is ABSOLUTELY the best use of his talents. If he can't take the punishment, he'll just we one in another long line of RB's that couldn't. RB's don't have long NFL shelf lives, so enjoy him while you can.
  5. Did anyone notice how many tackles he missed against New Orleans??
  6. Yeah, if he does end up being injury prone from now one......the level of hatred for Ron and Hurney will just grow and grow.
  7. Lol. I mean, I will have to keep saying it....Bill O'Brien isn't there anymore. I don't think there is much of a scenario in which we trade Teddy....maybe to Washington. He has a very large contract for a guy that is basically a game managing backup QB in the NFL. I suspect he'll just end up a free agent in 2021 anyway once we cut him.
  8. The money on that doesn't make a lot of sense, IMO. Teddy doesn't have a very friendly contract and you could probably get a player of his caliber much cheaper in free agency.
  9. That Twat will get deleted by that account in about 3-4 years. If not, be sure to bump it.
  10. If you designate him as a pre-June 1st trade on OTC he generates a TON of dead cap but it is spaced out over 4 years. Post-June 1st makes it a much more tolerable cap hit, so I am guessing that there is a way to transfer some of that to the next team. I am not that up on the new CBA and how that all works out. But the cap ramifications are a HUGE deal in this whole situation. This isn't the MLB where anything goes.
  11. 100% correct and that change really happened years ago when the switch to these spread offenses and the move away from these bell cow backs started. Look at KC whose best back was a rookie in CEH. But when people hear us talk about "positional value" or the fact that RB's are less valuable in the modern NFL, they get defensive and ignore the facts or trends in the NFL. It has NOTHING to do with CMC the player. He's arguably the best RB in the NFL. He's DEFINITELY the best dual threat RB in the NFL. I love watching him. I am glad he is a Panther. But I also was very early against signing him to a top 5 RB contract and I still am. For the exact reasons of the positional value and the short shelf life of the position(and he spent most of 2020 injured). People talk about the longevity of guys like Frank Gore or Adrian Peterson. But those guys also have been on multiple teams bouncing around the league as journeymen. That is the perfect example of why it doesn't make sense to tie up that kind of money in a position that you could sign a former top 10 drafted RB in Leonard Fournette for fuging NICKELS. Or draft a guy like Edwards-Helaire and pay him such a small salary.
  12. I mean, I wouldn't be if I were him. Depends on what it costs me, also.
  13. I would take Allen versus Rodgers too. The only team I want nothing good for is Tampa.
  14. Yeah, the remaining four teams largely have RB by committee approaches. The highest paid RB still left is Leonard Fournette who is the 31st highest paid RB for 2020. The highest producing remaining running back is #4 Aaron Jones, the only remaining top 10 rusher. However the QB group is Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. These are four of the top 10 passers in the league for 2020 and two of the top 10 paid QB's in 2020.
  15. Yes but they literally already are going to have cap problems. The salary cap purge was with Cleveland and the Browns had such a huge amount of salary cap that they were more than willing to trade some dead cap space for a draft pick. If that Panthers had that luxury, I would do the same in a heartbeat.
  16. Quite honestly, the play is less worrisome than the contract. Why would you trade for a guy that has that kind of contract? He HAS to be your starter or you just cut him, in which case....what was the purpose of even including him in the trade?
  17. I think part of the deal to lure Urban Meyer(who will almost assuredly be a huge failure as an NFL head coach) was the opportunity to coach a guy like Lawrence.
  18. You are discounting scenarios like the 49ers who are a ready made SB-caliber team in need of a franchise QB. Or even a situation like Chicago where the injection of a franchise caliber QB could make them immediate contenders. Or if you want to go even crazier, how about New England where they will likely be getting back a lot of players that opted out for COVID. I do agree that I cannot see him wanting to go to some of these traditional loser franchises(which we actually do fall into that category at the moment). If that was the case, why not just stay in Houston?
  19. If we did actually make that move, we'd basically make his contract even more of an albatross. He was paid to be the best RB in the league, not a hybrid utility player that we could have paid substantially less to obtain(and likely gotten a much better receiver). CMC will remain a RB for the remainder of the time that we decide to keep him.
  20. TBQH, even if we were at #1 overall, I wouldn't completely shut down the idea of obtaining Watson. I'd entertain offers from Houston, at least. I love Lawrence as a prospect but....Watson is an MVP caliber NFL QB. Proven and extremely young. I cannot recall a recent case of that being available like this.
  21. Henne wasn't atrocious in his stint replacing him. For all we know, Matt Moore's time in the NFL may just be near completion. Remember when Derek Anderson was the "best backup QB in the NFL" and very valuable for us.....until he wasn't.
  22. Well, you have proven elite player at the NFL level and you have, "Gosh, I hope he becomes a proven elite player at the NFL level." Then it just becomes about what that vision for the future of the franchise is and how to achieve it. We have no idea whether the franchise wants to make that kind of a bold move or gamble on a rookie. TBQH, it's possible we choose neither for this offseason.
