Official Week 5: Dolphins @ Panthers Gameday Thread

I don’t give a fug about tanking, you owe it to every other guy on this roster to give them a fighting chance with Dalton. -
New York Times: Is Panthers QB Bryce Young a Lost Cause
Dorian Gray replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Feels like this part is worth mentioning too: We had guys here who could play and decided to go in a different direction (twice). Who is in charge of evaluating QBs in this organization? Tepper? Because the revolving door of coaches and GMs keep changing while the problems stay the same. -
Watching other games this afternoon, there’s not a single other franchise in the league I wouldn’t trade places with right now. We don’t have a single “strength” on our team — from owner to GM to coaches to players. This is going to be a looooong rebuild. Tepper has no idea what he’s doing. DC was propped up by Baker, who is clearly thriving even without him. Bryce is one of the worst #1 picks ever, maybe the worst if you factor in what we traded. I was more optimistic with Wilks and Darnold than I am with this steaming pile. Absolute garbage from the top down.
-
He doesn’t have nearly enough arm strength for those kinds of situations. Some of those passes were embarrassing to watch. He’s also surprisingly slow considering his build. D-Linemen were easily chasing him down.
-
He’s still QB3 in New York behind Wilson and Dart, and likely not moving up even if those guys flip spots. If he was cheap enough, I think he could be a decent fit here for a year or two (if we need him to start/mentor a new draft pick next year). No doubt he throws a lot of interceptions and he’s definitely not a long-term solution. But he also throws a lot of touchdowns, isn’t scared to push it down the field (T-Mac would eat), is built like an actual NFL quarterback, and has been beloved by his teammates in every locker room he’s been in. If your goal is to utterly tank and get #1, you wouldn’t want Jameis. But for a guy who could spark something this season? I’d at least inquire.
-
Saw on Twitter that he had the slowest lane agility and slowest 3/4th sprint at the combine among guards. If his three-point shooting falls off or doesn’t translate, he’s going to be completely useless at anything else. Here’s to hoping he’s got that Steph shooting in him.

Stroud single-handedly keeping that 2023 QB class from being one of the worst in history. Bryce, AR, Levis, just an absolute trash pile of busts.

Jets offense (Hackett) -- 27th in the league in YPG Jets defense (Saleh) -- 2nd in the league in YPG And they replace... Saleh. Must be nice being Aaron's BFF.

All we heard all week was: "It's an organizational failure." "He needs more time." "Nobody could succeed there." "He has no weapons." "The offensive line can't protect anyone." Dalton has proven for the SECOND time that none of that is true. But because Bryce looks like he's 11, I think people want to coddle him and give him the benefit of the doubt. It was such fanbase gaslighting.

Can't believe I'm asking this but... do you pull Dalton now? Don't want our king getting hurt in garbage time. -

They can’t tee off on the running game because Dalton can throw downfield. Helps the run game. Helps the line. Helps the pass game. Helps the defense because they’re not constantly on the field. It really all goes back to having a competent quarterback. -

If all these "personnel people" think he's still good and it's all our fault, feel free to send some draft picks our way. Spoiler: They won't, because they know he sucks too. -

There doesn't seem to be a Caleb Williams in this draft and there are 5 or 6 QBs projected around the same (1st round). Beck, Ward, Moss, Sanders, Ewers...unless Dalton goes on a Flacco-esque playoff run, at least one of those guys will be available if Canales wants them.

The 2025 QB free agents, who would you sign?
Dorian Gray replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would be curious to see how Canales would do with Jameis. Jameis would be the same age Geno was when Canales started bringing him back from the dead and, from a purely physical talent standpoint, Jameis has more natural tools than Geno had. Of course you'd likely get one of his incredible 30 TDs, 30 INTs seasons, but hell at least he'd throw it down the field. -
Not sure if y'all remember when Rosen was going through the combine, he was praised for how cerebral he was. He obviously had better physical traits than Bryce, but his football IQ was what everyone raved about. He was drafted in the first round by Arizona and was fuging terrible. The Cardinals gave up on him after one year and the national media piled on them, making all kinds of excuses for Rosen like his surrounding cast was bad, his coaching was bad, he wasn't given time, etc etc etc The Cardinals went on to draft Kyler, who was an exponential upgrade, and Josh Rosen is selling real estate or something now. It's obvious the national media doesn't watch bad teams, and just assume that because the franchise is terrible, that's what's making the player terrible. When in actuality, Dave Canales - who helped resurrect Geno Smith and improve Baker Mayfield - saw enough in TWO GAMES worth of tape to know Bryce isn't it. I think a coach making that kind of call this early should be celebrated for trying to improve the team instead of clowned because he didn't give Bryce enough time.
