What is the benefit to benching starters for the preseason?
Waldo replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Which is how they ended up with a too old backup and a #3 who isn't a solid #4. It literally already blew up in their faces this preseason and they are already getting the unfavorable outcome due to the blowback that created for the guys they are trying to evaluate with a waste of space at QB, even by the 90 man roster standards, for 3 preseason games. I think people get what your saying while also saying it is a terrible approach that deserves the criticism it's getting. If they were expecting a pass I think that already went out the window so that 1st home game could be a surprise for them from the home crowd. -

A bad team not trying to win is an issue. The entire master plan of losing on purpose turning into winning on purpose is deeply flawed around here. I agree they should be trying to be competitive regardless but then starting out game 1 from a cold start is contradicting that IMO. Also if they knew they weren't going to the playoffs this year then why didn't they adjust the personnel to be more competitive and less like a tank job some here are hoping for? I think it's fair to question the entire thing because it sure looks like a bad strategy from people way to comfortable not trying to win now which is not a good sign from any angle in my eyes. -
It's not really about football entertainment anymore for me but just watching a complete trainwreck. In that way they are doing fantastic. Keep pounded

REPORT: Panthers changed the offense 3 times last season
Waldo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Still a clown show. -
Over drafting a kid that far and then making him switch positions was brutal. I hated the entire idea but i felt for the kid because it was wrong on every level but the pay. 2010 was wild and freaking Pickle in the same draft. I can't believe Hurney still works in the NFL.

Bryce, Ickey, others looking good against jets. Video
Waldo replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I always thought Ickey had a solid shot to make the leap but last year he didn't show up ready to take a much needed step in that direction which was really demoralizing to watch. No idea if he can keep it up but he seems in a better place then coming into last year. Bryce is currently in a place where he should be shinning with no contact, no olinemen in his face and no pressure. Great, he is showing up where it should be easiest for him. The problem is that when he does face those 3 things that is where his issues surface and all of that is what a game day experience will entail. If they don't play him against the Jets then I wouldn't get my hopes up because that is where he has to prove himself so hiding him is a giant red flag. Nothing surprising so far for me. And the Jets are still a dumpster fire with the second lowest win total next to the Panthers in the last 5 years for a little context, 1st in the last 6 years. The Panthers couldn't have picked a worst measuring stick of 'success' other than themselves in these practices but it is fitting. -
Whoever wins the NFC south isn't likely to do much in the playoffs. None of the teams are contenders. Taking the NFC south crown isn't much of an accomplishment at this point.

So what happens when Horn goes down again? Just because they picked up his 5th year option doesn't change the fact he has been available under 50% of the time. This team could need 2 before Jackson is ready.

The Jets Joint Practice Thread: HOT Take Edition
Waldo replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't pay those prices when I could do it better myself. I can't remember when I last ordered a steak when dinning out. That and the massive fire hazards. Could you imagine guys smoking already for 8 to 12 hours showing up with their setup? So many lolz -

Hot take: The games would be a lot more fun in person regardless if they let us bring our smokers and grills inside. Hot hot take: There would be something worth eating inside the stadium at that point. -
Would the Carolina Panthers move on from QB Bryce Young?
Waldo replied to jayboogieman's topic in Carolina Panthers
All I can think of is PFF. You would have to take thr team total sacks allowed and minus the oline sacks allowed. There were games last year where posters were mad that Ickey didn't get blame for Bryce holding the ball too long or too far back where protection becomes impossible. No idea where it falls but it was near rookie Carr'esk in self sacks. It's just hard to guess with how bad the interior played on so many other plays. -
Much less than 1%. Those fans are going to get loud by week 6 IMO. They fugged up thinking he was backup quality and he is at best a #3...the guy who should never play. He creates turnovers at the worst time and makes the wildcat a better option.

Baker's worst enemy was his ego until this team destroyed it. An OC should be able to work with him to be in a playoff hunt, not a real contender but a playoff appearance should be doable with his talent. Some good, some bad and some meh. Darnold is the kind of #2 his team should pray he doesn't ever have to play. He won't last long in Minnesota as a starter, he just never developed the mental side of his game. He looks like a sacrificail lamb to buy time IMO. If they are serious up there then it's going to be a real poo show.

Would the Carolina Panthers move on from QB Bryce Young?
Waldo replied to jayboogieman's topic in Carolina Panthers
They are the bottom dweller of the league so I wouldn't expect much kindness. I guess this is what a Tijuana donkey show feels like watching where the leauge is the donkey. -
I'm out of hope and I was never a cheerleader type. This team hasn't put anything together for years to be excited about or even respect. Just get it over with, sink or swim, it's not my fault. If Bryce wants to be respected then he can do something to earn it. If not then he can continue to be a running joke not just around here but leauge wide. This is all for entertainment so if I can't root for something good then all I have left is to laugh at the bad.

So many excuses and so few reasons to give any doubts. The new team motto should be Looking terrible but with lots of excuses. CmC looked like a stud on some bad teams here. Great players do. Moore had 1000 yard seasons in this dumpster fire. It's a BS argument that you can't evaluate Young at all or should give him a complete pass. Or that he wasn't part of last years mess and was just at the mercy of it. That just sounds like desperate and blind hope to me.- 64 replies

Why Dave Canales needs live reps with his first-team?
Waldo replied to jayboogieman's topic in Carolina Panthers
I can't wait to see what comes out about all of this. Not looking like a poorly coached and managed team is the bare minimum and if they are hiding from that then they are so screwed...again. It's hard to accept there is some master plan beyond that yet for me and given our recent history that's tough but fair. It's weird and unnecessary, just get guys some reps and get ready to try and not be the laughing stock of the league. -
The 49ers spent a load on Lance and then took Purdy the next year. That's how you walk away from an expensive failure in the NFL. They didn't give up and waste years on Lance, they went out the next year and took a guy in the 7th while Lance was having noticeable issues. They were not afraid to take a flyer or play the better guy regardless of draft capital wasted. That's a team that wants to win.

It stinks to watch a player I loved turn into a front office failure. He is going to have clown paint on his picture at some point this season. You won't be wrong unfortunately. A dawg is what I want hitting people on the field but not running a team. Aggressive? Check. Smart? Nope. That's a typical dawg. "I think the biggest thing behind the trade up to No. 1 is, at the end of the day, we weren't going to settle for a quarterback that other teams didn't want," Morgan told The Observer in a phone conversation. "We were going to be able to choose who we wanted to take at No. 1. So I think, from that sense, we wanted to be aggressive, and choose the quarterback that we want to be the face of our franchise."
