You have some serious issues man. Learn some reading comprehension without getting so freaking triggered. I used EXTREME cases to show the FLAW in his logic. No where does it say Baker is a HoF QB or anywhere close to being as good as any of those guys. Just because a team no longer wants a QB doesn't mean they are terrible and I illustrated this by showing damn good QBs that had to switch teams. I can't believe I'm having to break this poo down for you. It's like arguing with Sizzle....
-
His point is you can lump that Darnold trade in with many other trades and make it look bad. We all agree that trade was dumb and so was the extension. That doesn't mean this trade is....
-
That's the point. Just because a team no longer wants a QB doesn't mean they are terrible. I used extreme cases to prove a point. The Patroits didn't want to pay Brady what he deserved (dumb move). Manning and Brees were hurt, but recovered fine. I mean Baker was technically hurt too, he just played through it. I just love how I clearly stated I am using extreme cases on purpose and you still try to call it out.
-
Kind of like Drew Brees's Chargers didn't want him, Manning's Colts no longer wanted him, Brady's Patriots. Obviously extreme cases to show the flaw in your logic.
-
Making a list with Brady and Allen! Hell yeah!
-
This! I'm just happy it was such a cheap trade on our end. Super low risk move and good patience by our front office.
-
You realize 2 of the 4 posts you quoted are compliments? One calls us a playoff team (which I'm not sure I agree with) and the other says Baker is about to light the Browns on fire week 1. The we lost $5 million this year and a 5th round (or later) pick next year and will probably get a higher comp pick for letting him become a FA as @CanadianCatstated. Super low risk move by us.
-
I'm not saying we did. He was crying about how much money we would have to pay Baker IF he gets us in the playoffs. All I know is it was a very low cost trade for a better QB that what we have currently.
-
I defended Teddy and Darnold? I thought Teddy was a stop gap QB and wanted us to draft Fields even with Darnold. Mr Scot and I argued about Fields vs Slater (he wanted Slater). I didn't trust Darnold and wanted us to still draft Fields even after the trade. You just want to complain over a low risk trade. You were just posting about how difficult it will be is Baker beats out his 2020 season? If he does that we are not "marginally" better. I'm not as high on Baker as I am how little we have up to acquire him. If the worst thing we did this offseason is acquire a mid-level starting QB for $5 million dollars and a conditional 5th, then we had a decent offseason.
-
YOUR biggest complaint is that we got better. You are concerned we might extend Baker for having a good year. My God you are just complaining and contradicting yourself while doing so. Did we not get better? Then Baker will be a FA next year and only cost us a late round pick.
-
You asked me what I would do. I have you an easy answer and now you want to go and make assumptions. There is no way to know what Rhule and co will do, and I'm pretty sure Rhule isn't calling all the shots anymore.
-
I told you. Tag him and make sure he can repeat that success, then look at a long term deal. That is a big "if" though. If he can consistently play great football I'm not concerned with him saying dumb remarks to taunting other teams (I mean I loved Cam and he did similar things).
-
So your biggest concern is that he MIGHT play too GOOD??? Do you see how you are creating a headache?
-
Baker has proven he can play in the league, Darnold has not. That's the biggest difference to me. They both went to shitty organizations and Baker found success where Darnold could not. Darnold even went to another franchise with the same results.
-
That would be a nice problem to have, right?
-
I would tag his ass and see if he can do it again. If he can then he earns a contract. If not then we cut him lose with no additional financial loss (outside of that big tag hit for the year).

Browns and Panther Fan Reactions to the Baker Mayfield Trade
ForJimmy replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hate it, he is no better than Darnold, but he will somehow win more games with the same roster as Darnold??? I don't understand.... -
That was Cleveland's only playoff year in how long??? They were the worst team in the entire league and he had them in the playoffs in year three. Not too bad considered he was playing for such a terribly ran organization. I get the OL was good, but how am I suppose to hold that against him? Brady usually has a good OL, Manning always had a great one, Brees always had a good one.

Preseason rankings don't matter. It's how they performed throughout the season.
-
I think when it's all said and done he very well could be the back up. I would imagine we will unload Sam if anyone will pay any portion of that damn salary. Similar to what we did with Teddy. Our staff isn't the brightest, but they really cut lose of a QB when they finally realize they aren't good enough.

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-final-2021-offensive-line-rankings Finished 8th last year with multiple injuries. Still a top 10, but most of it is run blocking grades.
-
They traded for a vet QB who is a proven starter because they know Sam isn't the guy. Baker will start this season unless Corral can show he is ready. It's McAdoo's new offense so Darnold has little to no advantage as far as the playbook is concerned.
-
They have all but given up on Sam. Matt will get more reps as he earns them and now there is no hurry to get him on the field. They would have rushed him out with Sam out there throwing picks.
-
It's Baker until Matt is ready.
