The Jets Joint Practice Thread: HOT Take Edition
ForJimmy replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers

It just came up under images of "Mike Glennon long neck" lol. I doubt it's real but I really want it to be...

I'm typically in the mindset of don't write them off until they show me they need to be. I was more than good with Reich being fired early. He was checked out mentally IMO. Rhule got plenty of time and power to show something and didn't. So far in this very early start, Canales has shown me nothing to be concerned about. Well if you think Canales needs a gunslinger, either he or Bryce will need to morph. Who knows what will happen?

I'm not in the bumping old thread comments train (recent are fair game). We all have bad takes. If someone claims they don't, they are lying or simply never have any takes. It's the banter that makes this forum go round and round. Different takes and different opinions are part of the fun. As for the Bryce/Canales thing. I wouldn't write off either yet, but if Bryce falls short (pun intended) this year, I would think they let Canales pick his QB and see what he can do the next couple years. Hopefully he gets as long as Rhule assuming the wheels don't fall off like they did with Reich.

He kept saying he is open to playing starters depending on injuries and health. It was the same type of answer each presser. The NE game where we didn’t have enough OL to play? I believe Lewis was out, both TEs (Thomas and Tremble), XL, not sure but I believe Corbet was dinged up. It just so happens that the same time these players are getting healthy that he is playing them? I mean it all lines up. I don’t think there really is much outside pressure on playing those guys in preseason. That’s a social media/Huddle overreaction. You were right about Reich no doubt. I’m ok with admitting I’m wrong when I am. I don’t view him as the same as Canales. They might be polar opposites. Old washed up no emotion vs green full of emotion. Didn’t your tea leaves tell you there is 0% chance the starters play this week because they are hiding the offense? I’m pretty certain you said 0.0%.

Not to mention Canales is saying both things in the same interview. He has mentioned it in most interviews regarding preseason. One literally leads to the other. Not enough healthy starters to look cohesive as a unit. I'm just saying one leads to the other, but nope that will get rejected because it doesn't match a personal opinion of "hiding" an offense. The same opinion that has told us there is a 0.0% chance the starters play Saturday. We all know what comes next. The offense will struggle early as it is implemented and we will get the "see he wanted to hide this" comments from the tin foil gang. Hiding bad offenses in preseason just to release them in the regular season makes no sense...

I'd be ok with tagging him and seeing how his health does next year. -
and another quote backing that the injuries and readiness were linked together... PS the starters have a better grasp of the system as they get most of the reps in practice and TC. “Honestly, it was really just about the grasp of the system,” Canales explained. “Going back to that, talking about the confident play. I was open to playing them in the first one. I was open to playing in the second one. We had that great, great week of work against the Jets and we had a couple of guys, we knew we were going to get back this week. So it was like, why don’t we wait another week to get a stronger group to put out there.”

Lol they flow together fine. He literally said he didn’t know if he had enough starters to run the offense efficiently. Then they get healthy and he states in the previous weeks the offense wasn’t ready. This echos what he was saying before with injuries. Didn’t you also guarantee the starters won’t play this week? I mean you seem to have this all figured out about hiding the offense. I just wanted to make sure that was you.

Do I have to put his full quote up from the days prior every time you post this? It was also about not having enough starters healthy. He commented on if he had enough pieces to go out there and run his offense and what that would look like. Hell week 1 he was running out of OL to even take snaps. XL has been hurt, Johnson keeps getting mild injuries in practice, Lewis was recovering from an injury plus had personal time off, Hunt was getting mild injuries, Tremble has been injured. (TLDR version. DC didn't have enough starters healthy to effectively run his offense this early and get good impactful reps as a whole unit.) When asked after the team's last preseason game against the Jets why his starters hadn't been involved, with a whopping 38 inactive players on the team's 90-man roster last week, Canales referenced "the health of the whole unit" as being a big reason why. "Really just looking at the guys, the health of the whole unit. We’re gonna get more people back. So, again, this week would be another week to evaluate. We’re gonna have more of those guys that would be playing with that starting group. So this could be a good opportunity for that this week. But again—it all depends on how practice goes, it all depends on the depth of the guys we have to finish games. Again, that’s really just where my head was at. If we throw a group out there, but we’re missing a bunch of pieces, it’s not really giving us the full look at working together and doing that. I wanna make sure that they’re able to do that together." “I’m open to playing our guys this week. The same thing I told you after the game is true though. We have to look at what does that group look like if we put everybody out there? Are there enough of those guys to say this is valuable for us to get these reps? Once we start to get into the depth of different positions that kind of forces our hand sometimes on can we play guys? Today was a hard practice. Tomorrow is going to be another hard one. For me, I have to make sure we get through these two days, collect that information, and then I make the decision.”

He said he took time off mentally and watched some Netflix while also doing his workouts every morning. There are also clips of him training with ISM. He was also training with Mingo and TMJ in Cali. Basically some people want to be right about Young being a bust, so they are taking one piece of a quote and running with it. In their defense a lot of fans do this. I’ve been guilty of it myself.

Panthers activate key player from PUP

Yeah Cade Mays can’t stay healthy. He couldn’t in college either. I did think he would be better than he has been. -

It’s nice to have some actual OL depth. Center is still weird but the other positions look decent. -
If the starters are injured then yeah the offense wouldn’t be ready. One definitely leads to the other but sure keep spinning in your way. You also stated there is no way they are playing this weekend right? Figuring out the OL would be getting them healthy. It is literally what he said he was asked the first couple weeks. “I’m open to playing our guys this week. The same thing I told you after the game is true though. We have to look at what does that group look like if we put everybody out there? Are there enough of those guys to say this is valuable for us to get these reps?
