There are a very few number of legitimate NFL level QB's on this planet. I'm not saying he is not capable of being a backup still given that very limited number. All I'm saying is some people can choose to look at the reality glass half full or glass half empty. I'm relatively trying to remain near the middle. I do appreciate that he has experience with which he can pass on to Bryce. But I think his resume is being put on a level that does not line up. It's interesting you mentioned Flacco. I'd take him mentoring the Panthers starting QB in a heartbeat. At least Joe has won in the playoffs. And won a Super Bowl to boot. He might have only had success largely in that season but man what a run he led that offense on. I can respect that. I'm not saying I don't like or respect Andy. I do like him. And he's a ginger. But as a local fan who has seen losing losing losing mediocrity and a few very short lived seasons of potential greatness. Give me any ounce of greatness every time. Look I've been trying to be delicate but this entire thread is nothing more than an exercise in vigorous turd polishing. I'm perfectly willing to participate in optimistic discourse regarding our young players but what's going on with aging Andy Dalton is homerism gone wild. He is objectively bad. Plain and simple. And he was such in his final season with the Saints. In one game against the Cardinals that season he threw 2 pick sixes. He was very bad last season after that mirage of a win against the Raiders. It is what it is.

Currently playing the Thunder right now. I guess it says it all that playoffs in the Summer League are a high point these days. But we'll take what we can get.

He's a great guy. In his prime he was a respectable starter. But now at this stage of his career he is an awful QB. This lip service is ridiculous.

Anyone who watched the blueprint knows we think highly of Nic. Just get the deal done and get him out there for camp.

It's too early to tell. If he's stepped back that's a good thing obviously. But to say it was greatly overblown is rather ridiculous. This is the same man who held a press conference after firing Reich where he did virtually all the talking. Seems he's at least learned from all that though. We can only hope it will last.

Who here remembers this one? Two and a half years ago following what was one of the ugliest displays of QB play any Panthers or Saints fan had witnessed in many years. Not one person here would have been wanting to sign Andy Dalton to a contract. But once he signed with the Panthers and became Bryce Young's backup suddenly the narrative changed. Now somehow Panthers fans regard him as a top backup. Comical.

Heading into year 3 I think that the mentorship angle is overstated. At this point the simple reality is Andy Dalton is terrible. The Panthers org dragged out a sprained thumb to the point you'd think they were on the verge of amputation. That is how badly they never wanted to see him back on the field. A little competition in the QB room goes a long way and makes everyone better. For the team with the worst win percentage in all of sports the last few years you'd think it'd be something we'd want to prioritize. Instead we chose comfort. You know what else is known for comfort? Charmin bath tissue. We'll see how these decisions work out over the coming months. Hopefully our starting QB slams the door on these conversations. But nothing is a given.

I'd definitely like to see him stick around but it's not that simple unfortunately. We'll see how it plays out. Either way we need to make a concerted effort to prioritize the guys who display a knack for being intensely competitive. Give me that all day over these dudes just chucking up bad shots.

Yeah anyone who watched him play knows he's competitive. Doesn't mean he wasn't eventually annoyed with the losing situation and didn't put up a fight over being held out which didn't help matters. I don’t necessarily blame him. But the team did back up a brinks truck for his services so it's a two way street. Just for clarification. It's only Summer League but it's certainly a nice sight that the Hornets young players are showing this much promise.

Yeah many NBA players are streaky now. We've had plenty of those here. For Kon it's too early to say but based on what I've seen and his interviews I think if he wants to be really good or great and to get to the highest level he will. Of course that's the story of many of our players over the years. The talent is there. The desire to be great wasn't. We'll see if these new rookie additions have that in them. Hopefully. But it is the Hornets after all. The skepticism is valid. As far as Gordon Hayward. I can say without a doubt that he never wanted to be good or great. He was one of the many newer generations of players that have the prerequisite talent and want the money and allure of being an athlete but do not care one way or another if they win or lose.
