  1. I'm a fan of Rhule, obviously, and I haven't given up on him and the Panthers yet. I'm willing to give him all the excuses about covid and all the BS he's had to deal with as a new NFL coach in that situation coupled with the horrible state the team was in when he arrived etc. But I will admit, right here, right now, that I will be deeply disappointed if we trade our future away for Watson right now. Not even counting judging Watson based on these accusations but even from the football perspective of it. This move makes zero sense to me. Signing a player that will take away our cap space and not allowing us this opportunity to add some decent FAs plus our future first round picks? I just can't believe Rhule would go that route. Then adding to it the character concerns when Rhule is always speaking about culture? Honestly, that move would remove most of the reasons I'm willing to take the abuse I've sometimes received for defending him. I may have unpopular opinions and some of you may not like me but I do strongly believe in the principles that Rhule expresses which is why I like him. This would contradict all of that imo and I'd lose respect for him and I'd have to change not only my tune but my name. I just can't believe this is true. This story comes out every 3 months or so and nothing happens so I'm hoping this is just journalistic smoke and mirrors like usual. (I added paragraphs this time free of charge)
  2. True but how did that work out for them? It's early it's true but the first couldn't beat out an injured Garrapolo and the second was worse than Dalton. Maybe they will be great but so far they haven't exactly proven the "experts" to be so great at judging QBs but better suited at hyping stories and players for clicks. I don't really see it as proof that no QB in this class will be good or not. The QB who had the best season was supposed to be the one who wasn't really an NFL caliber QB to many. Heck, the Texans drafted the QB with the second best season from last year's class in the 3rd round I believe.
  3. Dude, I thank the football gods weekly that you take the time to post here. Now I thank you for making sense and trying to patiently, put things into a reasonable perspective and take down the hyperbole that is unfortunately so common place. You're my fav poster hands down. Keep Pounding Casillas!!!
  4. Yeah, sorry about that. I'm eating while writing and forgot to make paragraphs.
  5. Sorry, I forgot what a powerhouse Liberty QBs are. My bad. They are even better than the SDS QBs. Just ask the 49ers. C'mon man. Not sure what 10 years you're referring too but I'm sure it makes sense to you.
  6. Washington Commanders general manager Martin Mayhew spoke at 2022 NFL Combine on Wednesday and the question everybody wants to know was asked. Who will be the Commanders next franchise quarterback? "We are looking to upgrade that position and we're looking at every angle that's possible," Mayhew said. Martin Mayhew looks a lot like our old GM.
  7. I'm going to break with the house rules around here as I don't sit at the "cool" fans table anyway. This is GREAT news for us. The 2 teams most desperate for a QB who'd might want to jump us in the draft are out of the QB hunt now. Now I know that around this point I'm supposed to say that this QB class sucks, Rhule sucks, Fitts sucks, Tepper sucks, Panthers suck etc. but I won't because I'm a rebel like that. I see this as great news for us because now we should easily be able to get the best QB in this years' class, Kenny Picket, at pick 6!!! I never expected we would be able to draft a 4 year starter who showed improvement each an every season, played in the ACC, has a good arm, good mechanics, can make all the throws except the 65 yard bomb but his 50-55 yard passes are beautiful. He is a leader with a great character and he has a quiet swagger that reminds me of Hebert. In fact, he's being brushed off by many in much the same way Herbert was. Herbert had much of the same skills and college career but people always found some way to blow him off as not really that good same as they are doing with Pickett. I'm not sure why but it's okay with me as I expect us to get the steal of the draft. This is also a perfect situation for Kenny to come too. He can sit behind Darnold early in the season and likely have the opportunity to take his place during the season and rally the team behind their new QB of the future. I expect us to take advantage of finally having an almost normal pre season, actual cap space to improve our OL with FAs that are actually available this season and to add a few new pieces in the draft. I know we don't have the picks now but I'm expecting us to make a few trades to get a couple of picks and free more cap space. I like the changes we've made to our staff as they all look like improvements to me with successful NFL experience. We also have a lot of young players who I expect most will have improved and a very good defense that hopefully we can make better with a couple of moves on that side as well. All and all, I'm feeling optimistic about next season. This draft is quite deep at positions of need for us so if we can pull ofF some trades we should be able to help ourselves there. Keep Pounding!!! Stop Crying!!! Now fling the Poo at me. It's ok. I'll wear it proudly. Through the good times and the bad, Panthers fan for life. PANTHERS RHULE!!!
  8. The problem is that Wentz ALWAYS gets hurt. Has he ever played a full season? I would have went with Trubisky over Wentz personally. I also don't understand why WFT is acting like they are just a QB away from greatness. I don't see it.
  9. Well, they can't exactly come out and say that although he is a great athlete with a strong arm, the lack of experience against decent competition and overall inaccuracy means that he should be considered as a late 1st round prospect for a team with a veteran already in place to give him time to learn the pro game before starting as they'd be accused of being something terrible. I absolutely do not believe for a minute that they intend to draft Willis at 6. The media do this every season now. They over hype a super athletic QB with great potential but really raw skills. Some team will get caught up by it for sure like the 49ers did last season and we saw that they reached badly. Carolina passed on Fields at 8 last season and he was a better option at this point than Willis is. I expect us to draft Pickett personally as he is the most experienced and checks all the boxes. The only real negative about him is his hands. I'm not sure if Rhule has the same issue with that as he does with arms' length but that would be the only way I'd see us passing on him at 6 if he's there.
  10. Jonathan M Alexander @jonmalexander · 18h Replying to @jonmalexander The Panthers are saving $5 million in cap space from Thompson's deal, per a league source.
  11. After watching his game tape from 20 and 21 plus his pro day as well as his interviews I've come to the conclusion that if the Panthers do take a QB in Rnd 1 it should be Pickett. I know this year is considered a bad year for a QB but that doesn't mean there isn't one there and from what I've seen Kenny is the one with the most potential to be that guy.
  12. Why? I don't want us to draft Picket at 6 either but he looks like a decent prospect and less likely to have a short career due to injury because he's a QB and not a QB/RB type. Cam was the biggest and best of that style of QB and even he had a short career because of it.
  13. Yes but at least in Europe WC is an abbreviation for toilette
  14. I thought we were talking about Tepper? But ok, I can talk about Rhule too. He may or may not be clueless. If his objectives are as I stated earlier then he's doing exactly what he's supposed to do and he's building a roster of young talent and trying to build a culture. I believe his 1st objective is this. Tepper said he didn't want a team that was good one year and bad the next like we used to be. He wanted a team with sustained success like the Steelers. He doesn't want someone to come in and try to put a team together to win a season like Tampa or LAR have done. He wants to build a team from the ground up in a way that once they have a good team, they will be able to maintain the quality of that team every season and won't have to break the team up after 1 good season because you're over the cap. Like in Philly or the Ravens after the SB. If that's true and my 2 year theory is correct then he's on plan. Defense is solid could use some tweeks but solid. Now the offense. There are some pieces there but we must get the line set up but Rhule said that so he has that clue. If they can fix the OL then that will leave the last main focus and that's the QB. I admit, I'm not thrilled rolling with Darnold again either but I don't see many alternatives at the moment. But first, the OL and let Darnold have his last shot and if he fails next draft go hard for a QB. Which I expect they will unless finally Darnold learns how to play. As with Tepper, I think of Rhule. If Tepper has the long plan and then Rhule may be doing what Tepper wants. He's rebuilding the team which is what he was brought in to do. The focus is on the rebuild over just wins for now. Try to win as many as you can but focus on the rebuild and the wins will come.
  15. Yeah, I totally agree with you here. I still believe Jones was the original target and they caved to the imagined pressure and choked. He may become a great QB one day but no way was he ready to be drafted that high.
  16. Why do you think he's desperate? He doesn't appear desperate to me.
  17. I don't but we can't judge incompetence and mismanagement unless we have the patience to see the conclusion. If it's a 7 year plan as Rhules contract would suggest then judging the results after year 2 is premature. I'm not saying it is or isn't only that we don't know because we're not even half way there yet. Hedge fund managers don't make big changes based on what happened yesterday. They may make smaller ones but you give the investment you've chosen the time you predicted to pay dividends. He's been successful so far doing things that way and I doubt he's going to change his ways now with the Panthers. Investors who don't follow through with their investment don't last very long nor do they become one of the most successful at it which Tepper has so until then I'll just wait and watch and save my judgement for the proper time.
  18. DJ Moore for Jordon Love?!!! No way! Right now DJ is the best offensive player on the team. Definitely do not trade him away for a back up QB. We already have a back up QB under center and we don't have to trade Moore to have him.
  19. First, nice write up. I enjoyed it and your opinions presented are sound. However, I believe the basic premise as to how the Panthers are heading into next season are incorrect. As with most anything I read about the Panthers lately, there is this underlying idea that they are in a win now mode because Rhule will be fired if they don't. This is quite common and therefore not an unreasonable assumption. The problem with this assumption though is that I do not believe it is true nor have I seen any evidence to support it. Nothing that Tepper has done or said indicates that he anything other than patient. He bought the team in 2018 and instead of cleaning house, he left the team alone and focused on the business side of the organization and when he was satisfied with that, he moved to the football side. But even here he moved slowly and stressed a long term strategy. He hired a young, inexperienced NFL coach and signed him to a 7!!! year deal. But even here he continued for 1 season more with the old GM. I believe he did this to not change too much too soon and give his new coach a year to get settled in. Then he hired the new GM with his new coach heavily involved in the decision. This became another 2 year period to fix the financial side of the team, which they did, while trying to improve the roster best they could with limited resources and special focus on the defensive side of the ball, which they did. So we can see an early pattern of focusing on a specific part of the organization and giving it 2 years to complete the task before moving on to the next task and using the time to gain experience, evaluate what you have before deciding on how to move forward with the next step. Just like in 2020, the Panthers saw what they had staff wise and decided to make some changes based on their experience and coaching changes have been made and they have stated that their next step will be on the Offense. With focus on the OL in particular. As it turns out, this is a good year for that. Good OL prospects in the draft, quality possible FAs available and cap space to work with as well. Darnold will likely be our QB in 2022 unless they can get a QB like Stafford but just like last season I doubt this will be possible so same as last season they will roll with the best option available to them at this time and hope that it works out in the 2nd season (following the 2 season pattern already established) and concentrate on upgrading the OL and continuing to improve the young talent already on the team. If Darnold doesn't demonstrate the ability to be our QB of the future then it will be 2023 that I believe the Panthers will go for their QB of the future in the draft. At this stage it appears that it will be a good year to improve the QB position much like 2022 is a good year to improve the OL. 2024 will be the year where Tepper begins looking for the results of his patient rebuilding of the Panthers' organization and the complete overhaul of the team from top to bottom. Good business organization, financially sound with smart contracts from top to bottom, rebuilt defense and offense full of young players and a chosen QB starting his 2nd season. Rhule will have 3 seasons left on his contract at that point and this is where the real evaluation of his coaching ability will begin. I would imagine that once again it will be the 2nd season of this stage that will determine his future with the team unless something drastic happens before that. For now, his job is more about the rebuilding, work ethic, and team values. By the 6th or 7th year of his contract it will be decided if he is or isn't the coach of the future and if he isn't then at least the Panthers should have a talented young roster and a reputation of patience that would be attractive to the better HC candidates available. Tepper has always said that Rome wasn't built in a day and that he expected this process to take years to come to fruition and we've only just finished year 2. For better or worse we will have to wait and see but don't expect anything to change too much for at least a couple of more seasons unless things go horribly wrong. I know many fans believe it already has and maybe they are correct but I think everything is still going according to plan. The Panthers are playing the long game and that game still has a ways to go whether we like it or not. At this point, our best case scenario is that we improve the OL, McAdoo can actually call a decent offensive game, CMC returns to 2020 form and as a result Darnold finally learns how to play QB. If not, then start dreaming about the QB we'll draft in 2023. Until then just keep pounding or take up golf. You can always come back when they start winning
  20. Fake news. Pure speculation. That guy is sitting upside down and talking out of his pants.
