No it isn't. Caleb Williams is making an estimate of $2.6m in NIL this year. People just keep looking at base salary. It doesn't account for the guaranteed money / signing bonus that you get when you sign your rookie contract as a top-5 draft pick. Like do people really think Caleb Williams would make more in NIL than what, for example, Trevor Lawrence has already made? NIL money means more for guys who don't have great NFL aspirations. If you are going to be the No. 1 overall pick, then no, NIL money does not trump the money you get when you sign your rookie contract. For example, Bryce Young's signing bonus was $26 million. Even if Caleb Williams got another $2.5 next year, it would still take him 5 more college seasons to make what Bryce Young just made by signing a contract. On top of all the money you can still get from sponsors post-NFL. AND on top of that, your rookie contract is basically guaranteed unless you suck and your team releases you, and that isn't happening to the No. 1 Overall Pick. Whereas you are jeopardizing yourself with a potential injury if you return to college. Again NIL makes more sense for someone like Stetson Bennett. Someone who went late in the draft and won't have a huge signing bonus. He could conceivably make more from NIL than his rookie contract. But Caleb Williams? He absolutely would be sacrificing money next year by returning to USC and making himself susceptible to injury or worse, regression in performance. AND be setting himself a year back from signing the lucrative NFL QB extension.

Never say never, but I SERIOUSLY doubt Caleb Williams will return to USC. First off, the signing bonus for his rookie contract would definitely be more than what he would make next year. Two, it would push back a contract extension another year. I would believe Shadeur staying before I would Caleb and that is only because of his father.

What will there possibly be to get excited about for next year?

Frank’s End of Game “Playcalling”
Mage replied to USDepartmentOfSavagery's topic in Carolina Panthers
Frank Reich sucks. -
I don't think I have ever lost faith in a player in a single play like I did there. How do you let a 34 year old defensive back just destroy you on the most important play of the game? I've never seen that happen to a franchise left tackle before Is it time to start thinking he's not the answer? He's sucked all year

Frank Reich is actually terrible

We suck.

And to clarify, I am not defending Reich. I am not a big fan of the play-calling 3 games in either, although I do think we should take into account the amount of turnover with the coaches and players. It takes time to get people to gel. But it is also kind of annoying how people will say stuff without any facts to go along with it. Like how are we going to accuse the coach for lying about how often Sanders would be utilized, when he literally touches the ball more than all but 13 other RBs/WRs/TEs? There is a reason he's so valued in fantasy right now - he is one of the few RBs who appear to dominate the teams backfield as far as touches go.
-
I agree with what the executives (allegedly) have said. He's shown the traits that got him taken high. Still some things he needs to work on, as per usual with a rookie QB, but unsure if the team has the talent around him to allow him to make that jump this year.
-
Do you have any proof to back this up or are you just making up stuff that others might not bother to fact-check? Miles Sanders has more targets than any RB in the NFL currently. Last week, he was on the field for 57 snaps. Hubbard 27. Sanders is 14th in the NFL in touches. He has more receptions than McCaffrey. Sounds like someone who is being used as 3-down back to me. Not sure what you expected, him to be fed the ball like he's Derrick Henry or Christian McCaffrey? If you want to argue that Miles isn't good in that role, be my guest. I'm not a big fan of his either. But claiming the coach lied about how Miles would be used screams BS. Miles is one of the most used RBs in the NFL 3 games in. Just because he doesn't play every 3rd down doesn't change that. No RB plays 100% of their teams 3rd down snaps. But going off touches and targets and what I have seen from all 3 games, Miles Sanders has been utilized as a three down back. If you disagree then break down their 3rd down snaps for me. I will gladly admit I'm wrong if there is a big discrepancy in who is on the field for 3rd downs.

I didn't realize you have been with Bryce Young for the past week.
-
Probably because he actually did get hurt and a lot of ya'll are acting like conspiracy theorists. I can't believe that some of you are convincing yourselves that the Panthers think it is in their benefit for their 1st overall pick to not practice.

Didn't know we put this much stock into 2 games worth of data. -
I mean they were the 26th ranked defense last year. It very clearly isn't a good defense.

Gotta be honest with ya'll We suck.

We do have multiple guys on the coaching staff who have been pegged for a HC job. Evero, Brown, hell even Caldwell. I do think with a bad enough record and/or we don't see the necessary improvement from the offense by season's end, that Reich could be fired. However I don't think Tepper would go out of house. I think he would try to keep the staff we have in tact because another huge coaching turnover would be a lot for the players. I could see one of those guys getting the job, although I'm sure many here would hate it. But I think that is more likely than Reich being fired and us bringing in an outside coach. I do think it is worth considering the amount of turnover we have had this offseason, both with coaches and players (particularly on the offense). It really shouldn't be this much of a surprise the offense looks this bad early in the season, but I understand that most fans don't have a lot of patience. How many teams have gotten an entirely new coaching staff, new QB, new RB, new WRs, and a new TE, and looked fine to start the next year? And due to injuries on the OL, we have guys starting who weren't last year (Zavala for one). I'm not saying the coaches have been perfect but I do think we need to wait until the end of the season before we start talking about firing someone or who is or isn't a bust.

You are underestimating what adrenaline can do then. Tony Romo finished a game with broken ribs and a collapsed lung. We just saw Gardner-Johnson finish a game with a torn pec. Most NFL players are absolutely tough enough to play through an injury that ends up being serious enough to sit them out.
-
I can understand why fans don't want to see their team tank. I just don't understand why those fans hate on the ones who do want to see their team tank. At the end of the day the cream will rise to the top but it was frustrating seeing this team win games for really no reason last year. We wouldn't have had to lose DJ Moore or a future 1st round pick.
-
He really can't. There is a reason Minnesota chose to move on from him. He's not getting separation like he was 3 years ago. Thielen would be decent as a #2, but we need one of Chark, Marshall, or Mingo to step up. It really needs to be Chark, too soon to ask that out of Mingo.
-
Mike Evans would be a great pick-up. He's not as young as Higgins, but he's showing this year he's still one of the league's best and he's stayed healthy throughout his career. Aiyuk would be a good trade target.
