Panthers working out Josh Norman today
UNCrules2187 replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wow, he had 7 FFs for the 49ers last year? I think he can be serviceable and maybe come in fresh and bring a little of that 2015 magic with him. -
While I don't disagree with any of this, the play of Geno Smith this year makes me pause just a bit. I think Darnold is every bit as talented as Geno. He's not a "franchise QB" like a Mahomes, Allen, or Burrow given he needs a lot of structure and support with a good OL and a stout run game, but how many QBs DON'T need that? The 3 I mentioned plus a couple of others?

Next week is a defacto playoff game. No matter the permutation of wins and losses, if we lose next week to Tampa, we're out of the playoffs:

Every possible scenario below:

Not sure a tie between WSH and NYG would be more beneficial than just an outright loss by one. If both WSC and NYG finish 8-7-2 that trumps an 8-9 Carolina team. Probably need NYG to go into a complete tailspin and finish 7-9-1 for Carolina to have a realistic shot at the 7th seed (if we lose to TB)

I'd be ok with Wilks IF we get a better offensive mind in place. I'm not a McAdoo fan. If Reich would come in as OC, that would be ideal, but I get the sense that he'll likely land on his feet as a HC somewhere. If Wilks isn't the guy, I'd shoot for the moon and go after Harbaugh, and if he says no, I'd be happy to "settle" for one of the Shanes (Steichen or Waldron).

In any case, there's no leverage since the trade deadline passed. We'd just be holding on to him to be petty at this point. We're not gonna play him or resign him, might as well let him go.

Your math is off. Mayfield has played in 372 of the 705 offensive snaps in Carolina this year, according to Pro Football Reference. At that pace, he'd need to play in about five-and-a-half games in order to reach 70 percent, and Carolina only has five games remaining. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/draft-pick-compensation-for-carson-wentz-and-baker-mayfield-trades-are-virtually-locked-in/

Huh? He didn’t (and won’t) hit the 70% of snaps threshold for the 5th to upgrade. https://twitter.com/josephperson/status/1599796407535222784

Report: Teams are doing homework on Jim Harbaugh
UNCrules2187 replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Would love to have him here, if he flames out within 5 years but those 5 years include playoff berths and a potential SB run, it’s worth it imo. That being said, I think he will want a ton of cash (he’s making $7m annually at UM I believe) and bringing his own GM which I’m not sure Tepper is willing to do. I could see him in Indy or Houston for sure tho. -
I mean just this season, the difference between being 6-6 (and first in the division) and 4-8 are the result of 3 kicks: Cade York's 58 yard GW FG vs the Browns and Pinero's missed 48 yard GW XP and 33 yard GW FG in OT at Atlanta. We have gone 0-3 in 1 score games (Ls to Browns, at NYG, at ATL). I don't count the Saints game as a 1 score game because that game was pretty much decided, but even if you do, it's 1-3.
-
Honestly even taking the Browns and Giants losses, if Eddy just hits one of those kicks in the first Falcons game, I'd feel pretty good about the division. That loss is the one that hurts.
-
Justin Fields went 11th overall my guy. edit: and everyone was saying he was a bust until about 3-4 weeks ago.
-
Mahomes - 10th overall pick Watson - 12th overall pick Josh Allen - 7th overall pick Justin Herbert - 6th overall pick Lamar Jackson - 32nd overall pick Jalen Hurts - 53rd overall pick Would I prefer a top 2 pick to have our choice of QB prospects? Sure. But let's not act like it's the be all end all to getting out of QB hell. Hell, look at the litany of QBs in the past few drafts that went in the top 5: Darnold Mayfield Trubisky Goff Trey Lance Zach Wilson For every Joe Burrow or Cam Newton at #1 overall, there's a Baker Mayfield and Jared Goff out there.

Maybe Teddy Bridgewater wasn’t that bad….

Hindsight is 20/20 but I agree. And I like Jaycee as a player. -
I don't think age matters as much as tread for RBs. Foreman has 331 career carries and 353 career total touches. CMC, despite missing 23 games, has 269 carries and 366 touches since 2020 alone.
