Chris Simms “no way the panthers draft Lance at 8”
LinvilleGorge replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
I honestly think his complete aversion to risk is a bigger issue than his arm strength. His arm is definitely subpar for an NFL QB, but it wasn't AS bad as I expected it to be. -

Another reason why we aren't tanking. We're taking a shot on somebody. Anybody. I don't necessarily agree with that approach because I think that thought played a big role in us ending up with Teddy. We came to the conclusion that Cam's shoulder was shot and made the call to move on. There was a guy who had worked with Brady in the past and ran a very similar offense, what could go wrong? Well, evidently a lot. -

Honestly, I would too but I absolutely do not think we're going to do that. We had the perfect opportunity for a "tank" season last year and we passed on it. -

Minshew and Trubisky are my last resort guys. I'd rather try one of them out than roll with Teddy again, but really hoping we can land a better prospect. -
There are a lot of suspiciously fast times coming out of these things. I suspected there would be with no Combine to level the field. As far as speed goes, S&C programs can certainly help, but for the most part it's up to mom and dad. There's a reason for the old adage "you can't coach speed".

What was his arm length? 6'4" is less than ideal at LT, but those other measurables are excellent. For the record, Jordan Gross measured in at 6'4" 305. His arms were 33" which is considerably less than ideal for a LT. Everyone would be screaming "he's a guard!" if he measured in today.

Are you sure you want to make that argument? https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospect-rankings/wide-receivers/wide-receivers https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospect-rankings/wide-receivers/runningbacks -

The Pats' draft history has gotten worse since it's been all Belichick. -

In his defense he's never drafted a QB in the 1st round, but honestly Belichick's draft record isn't a particularly good one. And honestly, as of right now, the "was it Belichick or was it Brady?" question is leaning really hard toward Brady. -

Yep, Belichick is looking at guys who will likely be available at #15. We should also look at Belichick's QB drafting history. It isn't exactly all roses. -

Yeah, that was posted earlier too. So why do you think he isn't running? If he went out there and ran like the wind it would definitely help him. -

When running is a huge part of his game, yeah. -
Yeah, I think not liking someone would usually be classified as a "personal problem".

This is a HUGE red flag. The guy ran a 4.92 in HS. I don't think he's anywhere near as fast as most people think he is. I'm not sure his running ability translates to the NFL. If he could run sub-4.7 he'd be running IMO. -
I have literally never seen anyone in my life so hell-bent on defending billionaires. Biggest internet financial cuck of all-time goes to this guy right here.

I mean, if you're judging a GM by 1st round picks and that alone, Hurney was a GREAT GM. The issue is that Hurney is also Exhibit 1A in the case against 1st round picks being the end all be all of NFL GMing.

If he'd sign that deal it would likely be a done deal. Lane Johnson and his $18M per deal is probably a real thorn in our side right now. He's not just the highest paid RT in the NFL, he's making nearly 30% per year more than the #2 guy. $12M per year average would put Moton at #4. Honestly, that's not going to get it done.
-
Still hoping we'll sign him long-term before the season starts but I think a lot of guys who would normally be signing long-term deals this off-season might opt to play under one year deals to hit the market again next year post-COVID impact on the cap.

If a non-Panther fan that didn't know the Panthers roster went to TC back in the day, they would've picked out Chris Weinke as our starter ten times out of ten and likely thought Jake was just some guy hoping for an injury or something to squeak onto the roster. He really did not look like an NFL QB in practice.
-
You might wanna go watch Jake go toe to toe with Tom Brady in that '03 Super Bowl again before talking trash about him. I disagree with his take here, but still...
